@ThatOneCoolBro I didn't see any whispering at that moment, but that part of the chorus does go "Low lie the fields of Athenry, where once we watched the small, free birds fly..."
@ThatOneCoolBro Ah, I see now. I didn't notice that before...yeah, it sounds like he's repeating part of that line--"yeah, where once we watched the free birds fly," or something like that. Maybe he was just trying to keep their energy up for their big finish. If you watch the guy on the right with the guitar, it looks like he's doing something similar, trying to really get into that last chorus. :)
@ThatOneCoolBro It's common to put interjections between the lines of the chorus in this song. They usually go: ...the small free birds fly [interjection: "Oh, baby, watch the free birds fly"], our love was on the wing ["Sinn Fein"], we had dreams and songs to sing ["the I.R.A."].
Watch the Dubliners version of this song from the 1990s with Paddy Reilly singing the lead (it's up on YouTube) and you'll hear the audience sing these things between the lines of the chorus.
WOW!! This is one of my favorite songs and I have heard it by numerous artists and I must say these guys top them all!! Thank-you High Kings for sharing your wonderful sound!
i live in manchester, in the u.k and i love these songs i love maries wedding adn rocky road to dublin as well. check them out serious. amazing and so talented... love the irish.
Oh, the same situation! But I live in Russia. And only one my friend know about this wonderful group((( That's why I'm sitting and listening them alon.
I live in Ireland and everybody knows this song because we learn it in School and nost people know the High Kings though I went to see them live in Dublin and the majority of the audience were over 30 on average I'd say.
I don't know why, but whenever I look at Brian, I think: "That's Damian McGinty from Cektic Thunder in 15 years." Just the way they act. And especially in Paddy's Green Shamrock Shore, I see it. Anyone else?
They are all in their 30s. I think Finbarr (on guitar) is like 39, so is the main singer in this, Martin. Brian (2nd from left is like 35) i would say Darren is probably about 35 too. hope it helps! ;)
Dublin south constituency has the least amount of non-EU or EU immigrants in Dublin at 4.2%
yet it has the largest amount of voters that are Irish businessmen, managers, and government employees - they preach multiculturalism but dont want to live with it.

vote Pat Talbot in Dublin Central to put an end to this hypocrisy
These guys rock! I saw them in Chas. SC and they were awesome! Martin and Finbarr could have worked on their people skills, but Darren and Brian could carry a conversation like no other! This song is completely Ireland and if you listen and really get then meaning and tune of the song, then you truly get the Irish.
I have both the High Kings and Celtic Thunder CDs/DVDs- The Celtic Thunder guys are talented too, but many of their songs are NOT Celtic- High Kings are the real deal! I can see myself sitting in a pub enjoying a pint of Guinness with the High Kings singing!
Short, Tall, whatever. Darren's the best of this bunch by a mile! They are all good but he has that something extra. Seems to have achieved much more too.
yay *clap* *clap* *clap* They are amazing. I got tingles and thats a good sign that means their fantastic singers. :D Darren looks cold, poor guy. Us short people get cold faster than tall people. He isn't that short though he is probably taller than me. lol. Im 5'3 and a quarter.
I love the CD and DVD, but there is nothing quite like the HK live, their live show has it all. Thanks for this, just 4 talented lads with finely tuned voices that blend perfectly together, a guitar, a bango and one microphone. Perfect, what more do you want? Hurry up and get to England boys!
I've seen the commerically produced videos of the High Kings and while I appreciate their incredible talent, this was my favorite. Just the lads, simple acoustic guitar, and solid harmonies. They can hold their own in any setting.
I know why this song sounds familiar, the Drop Kick Murphy's did it. I like this version much better.
