@KingOfBev I reckon the goal he scored against Newcastle was as good if not better but I agree (I even remember exactly where I was when he scored. Amazing, just amazing. ( youtube.com/watch?v=cJaU5Q5Jv8w )
@G00n3r4Life You're probably right. I don't really think Bergkamp himself, as modest as he is, cares about some people not seeing him as all time great. But I feel sorry for Arsenal they didn't have Bergie in their European out games, it probably has cost them a few points. I think he really has to overcome this, if he ever wants to be Arsenal coach. I didn't understand, by the way, why Dennis had to spend so much time on the substitute bench during his final seasons.
Its amazing how it, in the blink of an eye, someone with Bergkamp's skill can leave a defense in ruins. To control that a pass like that as if it was on a string and then to have the nerve and composure to finish in the box like that...amazing, amazing goal.
What a release of pent up tension by the commentator; you see, Holland were playing with only ten men. Bergkamp called for the long ball and ran on ahead. He already knew what to do from then on.
@kannurkarran Argentina also had 10 players left, for Ortega was sent off for headbumping 'van der Sar'. Anyway, I still remember this goal, I was 13 years old and home alone with all the windows open because of the summer heat.. and when Bergkamp scored this beautiful goal in the final moments of the match I shouted so hard that the entire street could hear me. Definitely the best goal of the '98 World Cup.
Too many touches. RVP would've volleyed that in one.
