  • Whats with the shedder mindlesssly moving up and down scales! OK a bit better by 2.10 but really! Then the mockney fool turns it into a knees up 'down the local' Poor.

  • Genesis Six Hours LIve 1972-1980 2DVD set, Genesis The Lamb Live at the Shrine 1975 3-disc 2CD/DVD set, Genesis Live in Montreal 1974 2CD set, Genesis Live in Zurich 1977 2CD set available at Tommygun Video, please see our Youtube channel for link, video/audio clips, more details

  • Totally agree with you arank1rs Steve HAckett was one of the greatest members of the band, he brought some melody and some fineness in their music

Obrigado GENESIS!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The best band ever

  • peter gabriel.altro feeling

  • good video satcine, thank you from Chile. Nosfer

  • I think they are in good form. Perhaps in a lower key. Are any of us the same, we all change and move on. People do age. Phil also has back problems that were flaring up, I am sure during this tour. Enjoy one of the greatest bands of the 70's. This was probably their last tour. God bless them all!!!

  • This is the part where they get out of measure but every other concert was without any flews

  • what a shitty version of this guitar solo, steve hackett would comit suicide if he heard this... :S

  • @angusyoung98 It's another interpretation

  • it's still being shitty

  • yes, the solo is good ,but if you want to see the real solo look for "steve hacket live in bucharest"

  • The guitar solo is great!

  • i can't believe that there are people complaining about phil's voice and that they played the songs in a lower key, this is genesis at top form.

  • i agree with you... some people just don't allow themselves to enjoy stuff.

  • they did play most of the songs in a lower key thats just the truth but they wrote the songs they can play them how ever they want!

  • God, how I *wish* it were Steve Hackett playing that solo there. I wonder if we'll ever see that again :(

  • Steve was very underrated with Genesis.

  • @arank1rs Maestro Steve Hackett is the most underrated guitarist of rock!

  • who plays guitar here?

  • Daryl Stürmer

  • Mike Rutherford is lead guitarist for Genesis.

  • He does play guitar, but in this tour, Daryl Sturmer played the lead guitar. Mike is playing bass on this medly.

  • esto es música,esto es genialidad...GENESIS...!!

  • Prog rock is "the" absolute music and Genesis 1969-1973 were its best heralds.

  • Lots of bands tune down 1/2 step or whole step to help the vocals..Metallica,Hendrix,Malmsteen

  • A lot don't. Name me an entire set that Hendrix did a whole step down....I'm sorry, but I'd rather see The Musical Box.

  • This tour was amazing (was at the manchester and london dates)

Doesn't sound as good on this recording, but I can tell you, live, it was mindblowing!

  • I can't listen to this. Everything a whole step down....

  • It does take some getting used to.

  • io c'ero..i was there!! it was amazing!!! i saw GENESIS!!WOW

  • i love genesis, but i think they should have practiced a little more before they did this tour. they sounded pretty decent by the time they got to l.a though! They shoulda recorded that show for dvd.

  • They played a kickass show! The reason for why you think they should practiced some more is because the quality on this video sucks.

  • Remember there are millions of rock loving teenagers out there who don't have a clue what prog rock is anyway?

  • I agree after gabriel and hackett left, the band moved away from prog in the true sense, but it was uncool at that time anyway, but now hey the world is your oyster, there is a huge revival going on, and not many left to fill those old boots, should be interesting to see it they could pull it off though !!!!

  • i would like that hackett and gabriel join genesis to revival progressive music

  • lol XD i woould b affraid t be deceived

  • I saw an interview where Banks said Genesis would consider getting together with Gabriel and Hacket for a Lamb Lies Down on Broadway tour. That would be awesome if it ever happened.

  • The initial idea that led to the "Turn It On Again" tour WAS a full piece reuniion, with messers Gabriel & Hackett on board. And whilst this is great, a reunion of the 5 piece era Genesis would be supreme

  • Hackett is up for it. It's only Gabriel who is being indecisive about it. I'm def up for seeing that, but if they're going to do it, I still like the idea of having 2 drummers. That's one thing about the "Phil Collins Genesis" that shouldn't change if they are going to perform live. I also would like to see Anthony Phillips as part of that reunion. I'm also would be even more interesting if all 6 of them got together and did some new writing/studio recording.I wonder what that would sound like?

  • it would be very nice, but you ask for too much my friend....

  • When Hackett left, the last remnants of prog-rock aura left as well. Daryl is a fantastic piece for the band. Hey, I would have LOVED to see them do 'Harold the Barrel','Eleventh Earl of Mar', the entire "Slippermen" piece and "Mad Man Moon" - But they have to appease a;; different groups now. I would have loved to see Stuermer do Hackett's "Horizons" as well!

  • the anser is very very simple, about stuermer on guitar, that is not about taste or some comparing with original "sacred" version ... he is stuermer not hackett, why he should play in another way ?

the miracle is to listen to something of early period, considering a record like invisible touch is today considered classic ... (tragically hehe)

  • Damnit LOL i cant understand why pples here critics the guitarist, the solo sounds really great to me

  • I just can't help but comment on this. I have seen this band a few times and once with steve hackett and I don't remember this beautiful guitar solo ever being massacred like this before. I know that he is putting his own stamp on it but christ it's just guitar masterbation. Tragic.

  • God I hate Daryl Sturmer's playing. He over-compensates for his poor taste by inserting a blister of notes. Compare to Steve just a decade ago on the Tokyo Tapes DVD. Steve embelishes here and there, but still plays it the way he did 35 years ago. Quite a testament to the legendary status of this solo and Steve's confidence in it. I creamed my shorts the first time I listened to Selling England by the Pound. Why can't they put the full band back together? Why, God! Why!!!.

  • Good effort Daryl, this is the reason I stopped buying the post Master Hackett era Genesis albums, and sorry Phill but at least you should sound like in Seconds out with your drumming, I know that this a free concert, believe me after being a Genesis fan and an admirer for many many years I only yearn and dream to see Steve and Pete and you Tony, Mike and of course you Phill play together, the way it must be played, the perfect calssical Genesis way. Long live Genesis.

  • A great band isn't one that never screws up, it's one that can get back on the same page and finish the rest of the song (and in this case flawlessly).

Either Tony rushed or Phil just got on the wrong beat at :14, but they both tried to fix it, and then they got back at :24. It sounds like the rest of the band was with Tony. Chester is not playing at this point.

Where did they get the audio for the DVD, as this does not appear?

  • genial como siempre

  • Well we can clearly see that Daryl can play scales up and down, but nothing will change the fact that Steve was the master of this melody, his solo didn't have to have all the extra shredding to sound stunning... Steve just knows what is important for a great melody (it's a composer thing...) nevertheless I wouldn't say this solo is butchered (well except Tony's part before LOL) I think Daryl did a great job to make it sound like it did using a Strat...

  • I don't think Daryl wants it to sound like Steve's solo, out of respect for Hackett - no one can make it sustain and sing like Hackett, so why try?

  • Senza parole...

  • io c'eroooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

  • It's the way Mike is handling the bass line

  • whoever that was butchered the solo

  • i know, didn't sound a thing like hackett.

  • Them boys were off from each other the first 10 seconds or so. They need Hackett for that solo.

  • Mike can still play that cut time funk lick

  • What is a "cut/time funk lick"? I'd hate to think any older Genesis would have anything "funk" about it.

  • I bought DVD "When in Rome 2007" and I haven't heard the problem in Firth of Fifth. Digital sound power.

  • Eh ehù ;-)

  • Best video on Youtube. Hi Mr. Satcine.

  • @soulbluesjazzman On the DVD the audio part was taken from the Duesseldorf broacast.

  • is hacket there...?

  • STRUEMER RUINS THE SOLO

  • funny how some people complain about the sound, please bear in mind this clip was probably recorded on a mobile phone, or at best a hand held video camera, you aint gonna get no 5.1 dolby stereo from that, not happy with the sound ? buy the DVD

  • Amen brother! And while you people are at it... lay of DS already! ENOUGH IS E-F**KING-NUFF ALREADY!

  • Good piece of music.

Genesis should go back to the melodic sound of the 70s and diminish their drum-based sound

  • The keyboard programming in the beginning is definately off, otherwise a great performance...

  • I still love them. They are still Gods among men. I did notice the screw up at beginning and Daryl's ultra-thin guitar sound. But there are few bands in this world, of any genre, with near the talent and wonderful music. God Bless Them. Think I'll put on Trick Of The Tail and smoke a joint now.

  • I like it genesis..I have the CD LIVE OVER EUROPE..is so so great.....greetings from Lima, Peru!!

  • My only issue with Daryl's guitar playing is that he sometimes plays like he's still auditioning for the gig, with all of the fast fretwork and embellishments. He's a great guitarist and bassist, sometimes I wish he didn't try so hard, and just let it happen. I do agree that the keyboards don't sound right at all. The programming was way off.

  • edsongs thats correct firth of fifth IS from SEBTP and for thatstankanator they need two sets because phil is the drummer on studio and he is lefty so for chester is imposible to use phils drumkit an over the years that has been his trademark on genesis and on his solo career

  • Why do they need two drum sets?

  • perché altrimenti chi cazzo suona i tamburi,

quando phil si alza per cantare?

  • Why do they need two drumkits?

    Because there are two drummers!

    Chester Thompson and Phil Collins!

  • The last time I checked firth of fith was not from Selling England by the Pound. I thought it came on Foxtrot

  • wrong it is on sebtp in fact after cinema show

  • before cinema show actually

  • "firth" is third ,after "what i like "

    before "more fool me"

  • "firth" is third ,after "what i like "

    before "more fool me"

  • you're trippin'

  • what were u checking, a handwritten note to yourself in which you had written "Dear Suqonkman94, firth of fifth comes right after cinema show, love from baby"

  • Keep doing the tambourine dance Phil! Maybe you'll lose some weight!

  • At least Phil only needs to lose it from his body, which is possible.

You have to lose it from your brains!

    Not possible.You're stuck with it!

  • I see what you mean by too many notes and Shredding. A lot of Whammy Bar. Each note Hackett played was crafted and had feeling. Daryl is a great player but I think maybe he is not that interested in being identical. Remember Chester is also suppose to be Phil when he is playing and he isn't as great as he is. He is his own player so there you go. The band does not expect them to be clones. If they did they would have them look like them as well and Chester does not look like Phil.

  • Che notte romana!!

    Mitici, splendidi, fantastici, uomini perdinci!!!

E' stato bellissimo rivedervi dopo 24 anni!!!

  • Daryl I can tolerate, though I prefer Steve. That keyboard sound Tony is using I cannot! What was he thinking?

  • The sound still great - fantastic song and album! I prefer 70's Genesis!

  • Daryl : what a great guitarist!!! magnificiant!!!!!!

  • If I had not heard him before in Genesis, I would assume that he just had dropped acid and thought he was sitting in with Van Halen.

  • fantastic guitar solo on firth of fifth. diferent style and yet gets to the point. he's not hackett, hackett is not steumer, they're both amazing. having two different versions/syles of the guitar solo only enriches the song.

  • dude the song is incredibly well composed and played, god bless genesis. Just the quality of the recording isnt that good

  • the guitar do too many notes.

  • Davvero grandi!(ma che erroraccio in Firth of fifht!)

  • If any1 wants to know the Rome DVD comes out February 2008. I highly suggest that you also get the 2 cd set of "Genesis Live over Europe." You'll love it.

  • Great guitarist they got, but Firth of Fifth is nothing if not played by Hackett

  • Will they play Toronto soon?

  • well your off. toronto was played and rehearsed during the first week of september. if your from toronto you should've known that, they were in your city for a week.

  • guys i saw genesis in 1975 in cascais portugal with peter gabriel,amazing...

almost 20 years later i saw them again in lisbon, this time with phil, amazing again...

i hope they come to portugal again in this tour.

  • Genesis Vi amo e sempre vi amerò siete i migliori..

Ovviamente intendo dire Peter Gabriel...

  • As John Wayne would say "listen and listen tight". For all you nay sayers out there do me a favor and don't watch, just go out and throw bread to the ducks instead. This is 2007 so back off these guys. I can't play softball or raquetball any more at 51 because of back issues, so why bag Genesis for going out and playing THEIR music if they still can and want to. I saw them in Sacramento 10/10 and plucked down $450 for two floor seats dead center, fifth row and had a great time.

  • As Yoda said to Luke "when 900 years you reach. Look as good, you will not".

They are all pushing 60 and I think they sound good at their age. I do hate the modern keyboards though.

  • Thanks for a great reply to all those people who think that they will be the same in their 50's as they were in their 20's.

What a shock they are in for!!!:)

Great music will always be great music!

    I saw them in 1977 and 1986.

I am still getting over the concerts!!!

  • As someone who actually attended a number of shows on the tour, including this one, let me point two things out: (a) the sound was superb, and (b) the "Firth Of Fifth" screw-up was most definitely a one-off...every other time they played it flawlessly.

  • not bad just wish phil would warm up quicker in his singing, they need to put more effort into it and stop cutting the best bits out, plus the old fogey is being a bit lazey on the drums but what do you expect hes getting on a bit lol, at least they got back together for a jam

  • And that's just what it was: a jam. Most of their great songs were stuck together in lazy medleys. They really are a pale shadow of their 70s greatness.

  • I thought Phil was retired. I heard he could be deaf if he continued playing

  • I saw then in Chicago yesterday... the best concert in my life!!!! simply fabulous! I love GENESIS

  • Maestros!

  • That is certainly the best clip from the European tour that Ive seen yet

  • If genesis stayed a prog rock group, they wouldnt have been around as long as they had. Music changed and they changed. They still made good music, and live there isnt a band around that can compete

  • They were just a band of musicians who "played 12 string guitar related music". Prog? We never used that term in the 70s. I still do not know what it means, do you? They always were changing. Like Led Zeppelin for an example. I just love music. Peace

  • why do not enjoy the moment, live the present!!!!!! get away from the past, or view the videos with Peter Gabriel , this is GENESIS 2007, they trying to be happy ,be happy and think is Phil Collins , Mike Routerford and Tony Banks playing my favourites songs of genesis, i´m not in a bar , hearing a tribute band I´m Looking A PART OF GENESIS!!!!!! ,and what a part!!!!!!

  • Genesis Was Freakin AWesome!

I love all Genesis, With and Without Gabriel/Hackett

During this part of the concert I seriously cried

  • Nooooooooooooooo...I hate this guitar!!!

Give me my Hackett.. with his gibson/fernandes les paul...

A commercial Fifth of fifth, doesn't like well...

Phil good at drums but too much "not Peter" at vocals... Sorry,

    These aren't genesis.

  • Why should we turn back time 30 years. My live experience of Genesis 2007 was very positive although I don't like a single song made after 1980.

  • Genesis went through different periods which I call transitions...Personally after Hacket left Genesis turned into a Business oriented Group. I will stay with the group until 1975....Peter and Steve were great contributors. Now we could see what Peter achieved and Steve is doing what he wants to do...

  • More like "Selling Prog-Rock By The Ice Cold Sound", if you ask me(but you probably don`t).

  • These guys still fucking rock. I cant believe some of the posts "Phils singing in D instead of E" "Sounds Strained" Yada Yada. Give me a fucking break! These guys arent 24 years old anymore... not too shabby for a bunch of 50 something year olds that havent played together in 15 years. Awesome visually... stage set & design is sick - just what they've always been known for. Cant wait till they hit the states in Sept! Got floor seats for the Hartford CT show.

  • Amen ...

  • can you compare any of phils work to selling england or to foxtrot? i don't think so...

  • That's why you shouldn't; just take each work for what it is, period. They had amazing stuff with Gabriel, and they had some with Collins, just different. And no, they did NOT have only crappy albums among the 7 albums or so they did without Gabriel. To think so is stupid snobiness.

  • love that they are still using the taurus moog pedals

  • They've said this many times in interviews. Chester does a great job, but it can never be good as Collins. I am sure that was Chester's problems. And yes, the solo, but Daryl needs to try new guitar effects. He has been playing with this effect for more than 30 years.

  • they're not that good with out peter...

  • I think phil threw tony...fact is if the drummer loses it....it throws everyone.

  • Actually, now that I hear it again, nobody else went off beat. 1 drummer screwed up and other kept playing on (you can hear 2 snares 1 beat apart somewhere in there).

  • I think that the problem is in the bass, for me, the drums and the keyboard together, but I hear that the bass is a little slow..out of tempo...Any way the show was incredible!!! And I am very lucky because I was there!!

  • the solo sucks so bad, sounds 80ish

No one like you!

  • Canon or else? please mr. satcine tell me the brand of your camera. Wonderful machine.

GRAZIE!

  • is the DVD going to be from Rome?

  • It would be wonderful

  • OH!!!! cant wait,Roma looked awsome but the Hollywood Bowl will be the best concert of my life! Thank you Genesis for all the great memories!Peace from Big Al in Big Bear Lake,California!

  • Mistake 11 seconds in mate.

  • Did anybody know when will be realased the DVD??

  • This small mistake shows that after all they are human too!

I was at the concert as well, and I must say they made a fantastic show! Even most recent songs which normally I dont like, in this show have something spciel (I liked Mama and I can dance which normally I dont like!)

As I said, is nice to see these guys playing together in Rome after so many years.

Dont care if Peter and Steve were not there.

I am sorry for those who have rejected being there...You missed a big occasion!

    Ciao

  • where is the mistake i can't hear it

    is there really one?

  • When I look through the other gigs this mistake only happend in Rome. Sorry for the fans in Rome. I saw them in Hamburg and they were absolutly brilliant.

  • it does sound strange, and its unusual for genesis to make a mistake but they are at the end of the tour now and i guess they are tired, saw em at manchester and they were perfect!

  • I originally heard this song live a few days ago at another stadium, i thought wat the fuck the video must be playing up, then i hear this version..... it happens again, i now realise that phil and tony fucked up. Thats weird for genesis.

  • Bellissimo.

    Commovente.

  • Tony was rushing ... that was the problem!

  • /watch?v=WFj1z9HPk0Q

    wowowow

  • VALLISEASONS1 your so young but have great taste.did you see them in rome?or do you live in canada and thats why your off to ottawa? when i saw them in manchester 7.7.7 it was an absalute fantastic show it realy was!iv liked genesis for 30yrs and im only 41!my eldest daughter is 16 and shows no interest in genesis!which is wierd coz im always playing them ha! ha!

  • This is the best video that I saw. Thank you very much Mr. satcine. Wonderful medley. Selling is the best album by Genesis

  • selling is a great album, along with foxtrot,trespas.........they are all great arnt they? think my fav would be (sittin here 10mins and cant decide as they are all my favs)!

  • um is it just me or do they all loose their place at around 10 sec on for a few secs. the instrument are all off. anyways 500000 people is alot and its great to see that genesis is still loved in rome! great show, thanks for posting!

  • heard that phil lost it for a few seconds, but i cant hear where, u? 500.000 impressive, think there was about 90.000 at manchester when i saw them.

  • starts around 10 sec and last till 20 or so. im seeing them in ottawa sept 15, i cant wait, im a young fan (18) and ive admired phil since i was 8 or 9! best drummer ever! great guy all around

  • Very cool. Anymore vids? I love the camera work and angle you had here.

  • I've other videos but not for the entire long of the songs. Soon on this channel ;-)

  • Cool. Only reason I ask, is because for the Chicago show here in America, I have seats in this EXACT same spot, pretty much. So it'd be cool to see more angles :)

It seems like a dream...i was there but i don't remember well all the beautiful performance of the band...thanks a lot for the video !!!

Io c'ero... ;-)

  • What camera did you use? Great quality!! Thanks for sharing.

  • Hell of a time for a train wreck.
