I have the 2011 sx4 crossover. I live where the curves are like the Dragon's Tail. This is a fun car to drive corners at unrealistic speeds and grabs the road with cat claws. I have gotten no snow worth mentioning this year but was wanting to play. The sx4 is a bit over powered. It uses a bit of gas and has a small tank. but this car is real fun. I usually get 0 to 60 in less than 10 secs and never got that in my 3.4L toyota tacoma 4wd. I love the crossover.
My tiguan escape 4motion can beat all of these on and offroad easy. But the ground clearance is very poor offroad. dont let the raised suspension fool you.. if you own one you know what i'm saying.

Not all AWD the same, some very capable. How many big 4x4 out there that don't even see any dirt at all, let it go......

but i think the new one is not so cool as the first kuga.
2012 kuga/escape has a nice front, similar to its predecessor, but i don't like the back, and looking at it by the side it doesn't look sporty as 2008 kuga, anyway new kuga has better interiors

Subaru gets pathetic fuel economy . 19/24mpg is pathetic for a 4 cylinder that weighs 3000lbs. Large F250 diesel gets better fuel economy. Hopefully they fix that, because 90s are long gone and they are still using that old technology. A 4 speed auto, lol. Even Kia has a 6 speed automatic.

All other AWD crossover's manufacturers can barely make an AWD system that can traverse a steep dirt incline. The only AWD car manufacturer that can stand remotely close to Subaru's AWD system is Audi. Other than that Subaru's better.
I have a Rav4 and I think its an awesome truck. Great offroad just in snow I need sandbags cause it's light but thats not a big deal at all.. it's really quick to with the v6.:D
@JackDanielsCHS08 I've heard rumors about poor reliability, but those are only rumors. Do a lot of research if you're considering buying one. Supposedly they're pretty capable off-roaders straight out of the factory.
the 3.5 is a great engine, probably the best V6 to ever come out of Toyota. Reliable, powerful, quiet, refined, and peppy. It does great in the Highlander which is much heavier than the Rav. So when you squeeze it into a Rav, you get a powerful crossover.

I cant believe this guy thinks the Rav4 is more Off road capable than the Tiguan!!! That is because he did not tested the Tiguan Off Road. It is well known, by many test, that the 4WD system in the Rav4 is dump and useless. It is not comparable with the 4Motion system in VW.
Actually the position 3 should be the Rav4 and then a very tight competitions for second and first place between Forester and Tiguan.

There is a reason that Subys do not have the CVT tranny is because they suck for off roading. Look at the new jeep that uses them for reference or just look at some CVT 4x4s and watch them go up hills positioned at the base of the hill starting at 0 mph.
Had some Foresters in the family, they where good ofroad before when they where keept minimalistic, now they've gotten fancyer, fatter and have lost some of theyr key advantages towards bigger heavyer suvs

I think they are trying to stick with the original idea of the title, "off-road worthy crossovers" , that's why you may not see some other suv's. I don't know enough about the Murano or Juke, but I've seen the x3 helpless on a medium grade with a snow/mud combination; something every 4x4 Subaru would have easily climbed. However they do pick on the steering of the Toyota here, and the X3 would definitely impress them with its road manners. Guess we have to choose what the goal is.
I like the looks of the Rav4. Subaru hasn't changed much, eithet. The body styles still sell and Toyota did not try overdoing it or try making it look like the front of "other" vehicle's. And another thing, attacking the steering?? What the crap...let me test them :)

I like the idea of a crossover, but my perfect crossover dosn't exsist. Or atleast i havn't found it. Somthing Small framed and drives sporty on pavment like a Nissan Juke. Somthing Offroad capable, and lots and lots of ground clearance like a FJ Cruiser. Somthing spacious inside, and lots of cargo room like an xB. PLUS.. looks crazy weird like the Juke, xB and FJ Cruiser. Pretty much fix the back end of the juke prop it up so it has propor space, slam a V6 in it jack it up with decent shocks

I'm trying to decide between a Suzuki sx4 Crossover and a Jeep Patriot. Which car do you think would be best for my situation? Other car enthusiasts feel free to give your input too.
Depends what is highest on your list. If you want the best offroad option between the 2 I would say go with the Patriot. On the other hand if want great reliability backed by an awesome warranty (7yr, 100,000 miles, no deductable, fully transferable) then go with the SX4. btw, the SX4's offroad capability can be greatly enhanced with the Rocky Road Outfitters Kit for it. Takes the SX4 to a whole new level. Check them out.

@ers1027 The rouge is not the same size a Murano. It MAY look the same size but it's not. The murano is an altima underneath, and the rouge is a sentra underneath. A mini Coutryman is a sub compact, like the Suziki SX4 crossover, the Outlander Sport is Compact. Clearly you think you know things. There is a reason that Subys do not have the CVT tranny is because they suck for off roading. Look at the new jeep that uses them for reference or just look at some CVT 4x4s and watch them go up hills positioned at the base of the hill starting at 0 mph.

I think they are trying to stick with the original idea of the title, "off-road worthy crossovers" , that's why you may not see some other suv's. I don't know enough about the Murano or Juke, but I've seen the x3 helpless on a medium grade with a snow/mud combination; something every 4x4 Subaru would have easily climbed. However they do pick on the steering of the Toyota here, and the X3 would definitely impress them with its road manners. Guess we have to choose what the goal is.

Since Jeep gave up the inline 6 cyl engine , i'd never buy a jeep again . I had 3 Cherokee's with 4.0 inline 6 cyl , every one went well over 200,000 . In fact, I still drive one w 220k , going strong . They shot themselves in the foot when they dropped the inline 6 ~ cannonsville69

I like the idea of a crossover, but my perfect crossover dosn't exsist. Or atleast i havn't found it. Somthing Small framed and drives sporty on pavment like a Nissan Juke. Somthing Offroad capable, and lots and lots of ground clearance like a FJ Cruiser. Somthing spacious inside, and lots of cargo room like an xB. PLUS.. looks crazy weird like the Juke, xB and FJ Cruiser. Pretty much fix the back end of the juke prop it up so it has propor space, slam a V6 in it jack it up with decent shocks

I live in the city and drive long distances to get to work, which is on a ranch. I live in NM so we deal with extreme heat, and believe it or not, extreme winters too. I'm trying to decide between a Suzuki sx4 Crossover and a Jeep Patriot. Which car do you think would be best for my situation? Other car enthusiasts feel free to give your input too.

Depends what is highest on your list. If you want the best offroad option between the 2 I would say go with the Patriot. On the other hand if want great reliability backed by an awesome warranty (7yr, 100,000 miles, no deductable, fully transferable) then go with the SX4. btw, the SX4's offroad capability can be greatly enhanced with the Rocky Road Outfitters Kit for it. Takes the SX4 to a whole new level. Check them out.

A mini Coutryman is a sub compact, like the Suziki SX4 crossover, the Outlander Sport is Compact. Clearly you think you know things. The Rogue qualifies as a compact, but most people call it a midsize because of its spaciousness and size. Not once do my colleges or I call the Rogue a compact .
