  • So let's say you're listening to the radio and record songs you like, then make a copy for a friend, that you will be charged for piracy? There are countless other methods of attaining copyrighted material without means of profit, which is not piracy, piracy is described as the act of copying, reselling and profiting from copyrighted material.

  • @frankyg2384

That is the belief most people go by. But I think the government is working to stop that.

  • It didn't pass in the US and I'm sure we, the Canadian ppl, will not let this travesty be committed!!! If someone buys a DVD and it being their property, they should be allowed to share it, as long as no one is profiting from doing so, it shouldn't be a problem

  • We have to make a stand. Good upload. Liked your Area 51 sign btw.

  • After reading the bill, the only thing that I can see is it will hurt the hones man, that's it. I do understand that there are lots of abusers out there, however they are going about this completely the wrong way. if they really wanted to lessen the piracy out there, they should really make official channels. If the government sets up official channels and subsidizes fees that go along with it, people will swarm to it. most people dont want to break the law but why pay an outragious company fee?

  • @Spunter11

"most people dont want to break the law but why pay an outragious company fee?"

    Exactly.

Sites like Napster didn't help though either. Providing free content in the beginning. Making people think it's okay it's just one song.

  • c 11 seems fine , what's the problem ?

  • @MoreBankrBailoutsPLZ

Looks fine, but I don't think it really is.

  • @GodlessManitoban it only sucks in that I'd have to start renting movies again, torrents would be screwed I think

  • @MoreBankrBailoutsPLZ

Yeah and they also want to increase usage of digital locks.

  • Well I guess there will be no liabraries since they share books.

  • @YiuTeub

Yeah this bill is too broad.

  • Long live the CORPORATIONS. Bow before the CORPORATIONS. Get your wallet out to pay the CORPORATIONS.

  • In Canada our internet access already sucks enough!

We are already blocked from all the *paid* sites, too. (Like Netflix, Hulu... We have Netflix Canada but it is a joke.) Stupid Canadian Internet. So frustrating.

  • @LilMovieBuff

Yeah I only get just over 6Mbps and my upload is under 0.5Mbps.

Yeah I heard NetFlix Canada wasn't very good.

  • @LilMovieBuff I get Hulu in Canada. Do some homework and you can too.

  • Forgive my ignorance, but does this mean piracy will become impossible in Canada?

  • @LilMovieBuff

I doubt it'll become impossible. Just more difficult to do.

This bill is so dumb. They want to prevent people from making backup's of something they bought.

  • @GodlessManitoban Not true. Read the "back up"

    29.24 (1) It is not an infringement of copyright in a work or other subject-matter for a person who owns — or has a licence to use — a copy of the work or subject-matter (in this section referred to as the “source copy”) to reproduce the source copy if (a) the person does so solely for backup purposes in case the source copy is lost, damaged or otherwise rendered unusable;

    (b) the source copy is not an infringing copy;

  • @YiuTeub

Oh cool good to know :-) thanks.

  • MY COUNTRY BETRAYED ME HARPER ICOMING FOR YOU YOU MOTHERFUCKER

  • @dawsonguy1234567890

    Hell yeah!

  • im canadian F This

  • @MoltenPickaxe

    Indeed.

  • I THINK EMPEROR HARPIUS IS A DICKTATER. Come on Canada....we cannot let them get away with this. We've lost enough rights and freedoms already. I personally don't wish to lose internet freedom...its the only real valid information source left.

  • @TheJodilena

From what I can tell this bill-c11 has been around for awhile. Doesn't really seem to be getting anywhere fast.

  • FUUUUUUUUUUU

  • @sycomania134

    Indeed.

  • @sega310982 I think cancer may have played a part in Jack Layton's death.

  • @GodlessManitoban

Of course cancer killed Jack Layton, but the stress probably took a toll on his immune system.

  • @sega310982

    Possibly.

  • The difference between Canada and US is that Stephen Harper has much more power over Canada than what Barack Obama has over the USA.

The Conservatives practically own Canada and act like dictators. The election only gave Harper more power and killed Jack Layton.

  • @sega310982 and their probably getting kick backs from the US corporations as well, APPLE CANADA for one I'm sure - this is BS and we need to shut this shit down ...

  • I agree about Anonymous. Unless they actually do something effective all they are doing is helping Governments justify the need for PIPA and other Big-Brother type legislation. I will have to study bill C-11 further before I can give an opinion on all it's implications. Thanks for posting this GM :)

  • @trident343lives

I read parts of it and it is worded very interestingly. It is not exactly clear which sends flags up for me.

    You're welcome.

  • @GodlessManitoban I Remember reading the Firearms Act (Bill C-68) when it came out. What struck me at the time was the vagueness of the wording in the legalese. It seemed like it was purposely worded in a way that and Justice or Judge could expand the meaning to include things that might not have been perceived as having power over at the time. It wouldn't surprise me if this Canada SOPA bill is intended to suppress free speech somehow.

  • @trident343lives

I added a video in the video description where a NDP member speaks about it.

From what I can tell it sounds just like SOPA. Bending over for the big corporations.

  • I think your video response setting is still defaulted to "approval" ;-)

  • @rozeboosje

    Approved.

Yeah I do that so I don't get the wrong responses.

  • Aww fuck. Time to write some letters

  • @L00NGB00W

    It sure is.

  • That's why I made it VERY clear in my communication to the government here: if they do NOT take into account the impact that their proposed legislation may have on the freedom of expression of individuals, then the public is DUTY BOUND to push forward and put effort into developing technological solutions that will work around the blocking, AND bring this into the mainstream, castrating the legislation. We will definitely not sit idly by and let this shit happen.

  • @rozeboosje

It's just like when Kazaa was made paid for. Another file sharing service popped up. Limewire disappeared and then Frostwire became more popular.

Megaupload was taken down even though I myself never used it for sharing copyrighted material. So now I use Mediafire.

  • Yup - same shit, different place but here in Ireland we're facing the same BS - I see you mention it here, too. Well, we, here in Ireland, are kicking up a MASSIVE fuss about it and I hope you can get the same thing going over there. Keeping my fingers crossed for you.

  • @rozeboosje

Oh I am sure there'll be a lot of Canadian's who will express their dislike.

  • I always thought of a DoS att. as a modern day sit-in. I think it's a valid form of protest, imo.

  • @MsMrNoface

To me in the long run attacking a site doesn't really do anything. Plus some individuals do not understand the repercussions of lending their PC to an attack. People might say their shouldn't be repercussions but there are.

  • *there - typo

  • REALLY! ARGH!

  • @eSkiip

    Yes :-/

  • Regardless of what people might think about the file-sharing/piracy provisions in these proposals, what really pisses me off is that our private information can be shared without our knowledge with complainants. And also it would allow for anything we share through private media to be monitored too.

I don't think people are aware of the reach of ACTA. It seems to have gone over as being a "European SOPA", when it's nearly global. And it's bypassing a lot of scrutiny as a trade agreement.

  • @911tourettes

Seems like a trend for different countries right now. Everyone has to try it.

  • Comment removed

  • @GodlessManitoban Too true! :/

  • @911tourettes

I wonder who will try it next.

  • I think this bill makes sense. Given it ain't perfect and can use some improvement but is is still reasonable to try to stop the distribution of copyrighted material.

  • @jalbador

It may sound good on paper right now. But I am sure they'll eventually tweak it.

  • @GodlessManitoban lol they already have tweaked it several times. I imagine there will be several more tweaks before it gets ratified. As is, it seems ok (at least to a non lawyer like me). Definitely something to keep an eye on tho for sure.

  • @jalbador

Right now it's still in the preliminary stages. So time will tell.

  • I read Bill C-11. It isn't like the SOPA bill that got shelved in the US. As far as internet goes it doesn't shut down hosting sites like youtube unless their sole purpose is to "infringe copyright". Bill C-11 doesn't try to censor the internet like SOPA and it doesn't give the power to corporations (or copyright holder of any kind) to pro actively shut sites down. It all has to go through the courts first. The courts have specific criteria with which to judge the "copyright infringement".

  • @jalbador

Did you actually read the entire bill? Don't you think it could be twisted to suit the copyright holders needs?

  • @GodlessManitoban I did read the entire bill. It clearly states what is considered copyright infringement and the exceptions. I think every law we come up with an be twisted by the right lawyer to benefit whomever has the money to pay for that lawyer. We have the "temporary insanity plee" that lets people get away with murder. Given, I'm no lawyer, but this bill C-11 seems reasonable. Even in the worst case scenario there is a clause that requires the gov't to review it every 5 years.

  • Want me to come there and burn some shit?

  • @CappitranoBellephant

Sure we need all the support we can get.

  • Awesome video. These SOPA bills are a bunch of bukkake.

  • @metalgodess81

You know what image you just put in my head.

  • @dataghost196

Werd! Yeah I heard about that.

  • Great video, but the bigger issue is not them banning download sites, but sites that allow embedding of stuff without copyright permission, even youtube....

  • @theDukeofSpades

Watch Boobtube bend over if this bill succeeds in the future.

  • great vlog my friend! and youre so right, people will always find a way around it! always! i had no idea you guys had a similar bill....what a crock of shitola!

  • @jakluk4

I found it on Yahoo! News will fiddling with my iPod touch 4G.
