If the album is the kind you have to listen to over and over so the song grows on you so you eventually like it, that means its mediocre but you giving it a chance because it's AK. Thats ok though, maybe if she wasn't so busy stealing husbands and fathers, she may have been able to concentrate on what she does best.

Besides Memoirs (Mariah Carey) this is my favourite album of 2009. Also, In the UK this album seems to be doing better now than it was in December, so maybe you're right on the whole "It grows on you" thing.

My favorite songs tend to change depending on feelings, which is a sign of an album that connects emotionally.
In 'Like the Sea' She manages to turn a classical arabesque into sonic ocean currents and water droplets.

i've always been an Alicia fan. i think you have to be in a place to grasp a lot of the abstract themes within this work. I love it... the only song i didn't think should went on the album is put it in a love song... it downplayed the work album.
i really think alicia keys wanted to tone down and bring something different to the table, thus the difference of the music in this album compared to the oher albums. :)

You have to be in a certain place in order to like the album. The album is about overcoming depression, so you have to be in the part of your life in order to relate to it. This album is about her, not trying to please everyone
i am actually a beyonce fan (no, i didnt get it just b/c they have a collaboration) so I ordered it online to check it out.. since I had L-O-V-E-D "Try Sleeping With a Broken Heart" and couldnt get enough of it.
The album- was worth purchasing. I heard it for the 1st time today and you really need to hear the entire thing a couple of times to start liking it.

the album sucks compared to her last albums. just being real (not a hater). haters hate on everything. i tell the truth. it's a really boring album and much of it puts me to sleep. the singles are good though and i like "put it in a love song" (it's a grower), but other than that, the album is a let down.

I actually really like this album alot It's probally my 2nd favorite album by her my 1st fave is Songs in A minor. But I did have to listen to the album a few times to truly enjoy it But thats how I am with all albums usually I actually got the deluxe edition of the album that came with 2 extra songs & a DVD and even though it was like 5 more dollars than the regular version it was worth it

i absolutely love the album! when i first heard love is blind, i was like wow this is really different and i was amazed. to me the album had progression, but i feel alicia to progress more. i feel like shes tied down to the piano, idk maybe if she became more of a performer! i do see some progression but i'd like more! like the sea is my shit, that song just puts me in a trance! i love it! overall it's good album! THis album is really good...Personally, I feel it's better than "I AM"...THis one really deals with heartbreak and moving on. Also I'm glad that it's not one of those albums that tries to bash the ex's. Instead, Alicia takes the high road and only adresses the positives about the end of a relationship....I feel she also grew musically. Luv it...Good Job Alicia :)

I have to get this album, I love Alicia! A lot of pepole didn't care for 'As I Am' when it first came out; alot of people told me it had to grow on them.
I don't know if I should buy the album. Didn't like the first single and second single was alright , but I have brought all her others albums. I think alicia needs to step up her game and show something new.
This album is great, but it is a smooth transition from AS I AM to something else new and different from Alicia Keys. Right now I am in the middle like you Kev. Empire State if Mind is so much better than the Jay Z collabo. I was looking for so much more especially since she's been around for so long and she is a beast in music. I was hoping for a lil reinvention and it didn't happen. I don't hate the album but I dont love it either. Like Makael said on an earlier video, I can tell she can give us more. That's what makes me not love this.
I think that you're B+ is based largely on past performance as opposed to the material on this album (you said that you are in the middle so the grade should be a C...for now anyway). But I also understand that you don't want to shoot it down because many of favorite albums didn't grab me from the start.

To me, the songs were a little repetitive and even some lyrics were repeated on some tracks. I definitely agree w/you that this didn't live up to my expectation for AK. I think As I Am and Songs in A Minor are the best 2 albums of her career so far. I hope she branches out and gives us a FRESH album next time.

i've always been an Alicia fan. i think you have to be in a place to grasp a lot of the abstract themes within this work. I love it... the only song i didn't think should went on the album is put it in a love song... it downplayed the work album.

i am actually a beyonce fan (no, i didnt get it just b/c they have a collaboration) so I ordered it online to check it out.. since I had L-O-V-E-D "Try Sleeping With a Broken Heart" and couldnt get enough of it.
The album- was worth purchasing. I heard it for the 1st time today and you really need to hear the entire thing a couple of times to start liking it.
My faves: Try Sleeping.., Unthinkable, Wait Till you c my smile, how it feels to fly, and put it in a love song

the album sucks compared to her last albums. just being real (not a hater). haters hate on everything. i tell the truth. it's a really boring album and much of it puts me to sleep. the singles are good though and i like "put it in a love song" (it's a grower), but other than that, the album is a let down.

I actually really like this album alot It's probally my 2nd favorite album by her my 1st fave is Songs in A minor. But I did have to listen to the album a few times to truly enjoy it But thats how I am with all albums usually I actually got the deluxe edition of the album that came with 2 extra songs & a DVD and even though it was like 5 more dollars than the regular version it was worth it

Agree album lacks some heart, but it is still good, not as soulful as the other albums

i absolutely love the album! when i first heard love is blind, i was like wow this is really different and i was amazed. to me the album had progression, but i feel alicia to progress more. i feel like shes tied down to the piano, idk maybe if she became more of a performer! i do see some progression but i'd like more! like the sea is my shit, that song just puts me in a trance! i love it! overall it's good album! THis album is really good...Personally, I feel it's better than "I AM"...THis one really deals with heartbreak and moving on. Also I'm glad that it's not one of those albums that tries to bash the ex's. Instead, Alicia takes the high road and only adresses the positives about the end of a relationship....I feel she also grew musically. Luv it...Good Job Alicia :)

alicia key's last two albums were better. i would agree about her geting political...just singing about break-ups or relationships in slow tempo, boring songs with a piano gets old quick on this album...so much of it sounds the same and puts me to sleep. favorite songs though: the three singles, put it in a love song, this bed, and the rest are BORING and they aren't saying anything deep; can't we have some political/social music? love is old. on to the next.

Right now I am in the middle like you Kev. Empire State if Mind is so much better than the Jay Z collabo. To me, the songs were a little repetitive and even some lyrics were repeated on some tracks. I definitely agree w/you that this didn't live up to my expectation for AK. I think As I Am and Songs in A Minor are the best 2 albums of her career so far. I hope she branches out and gives us a FRESH album next time.

I brought the Album the day it came out.
I have too disagree with you on Love is blind I think it is a great track too set the tone of the album becuase of the hard beats and the effects on her voice.
I think Put It In A Love Song is the worse song on the album, I think they just put that song togeather in the last minute, I wasnt feeling it but it will prob grow on me ( I stan for Alicia and Beyonce)

CONT"D i think this album just really grabs me because i love love tha fact that she writes a song down to the words an every note. its a real journey for me. there is thought that goes in to it, and the journey from being afraid to step out, and be your own you and the challenges of love and life, all the way up to finally being free in the song how it feels to fly. amazing. this definitely to me, the best album of the year. when an album can bring me to tears, i kno its good. love it. peace:-)

The first time i heared this album a week ago when she released it on facebook, i loved it and havent stopped playing it, to me this album is AMAZING, the best this year, i got so sick of the rihannas and gagas an all that crap, but alicia has really done it again, i love every song. my faves are wait til you see my smile, thats how strong my L is, empire state, put it in a love song, and both bonus tracks on the deluxe edition. i love the cover of the album, and i havent stopped playing it...
