  • Follow the curve of the needle to avoid tissue damage. And try to find more ways to minimize motion.

  • you never everted te egdes? which is the point i thought?

  • Thanks for all your videos! I'm not a med student (yet) but started practicing a few types of sutures... Can you tell me where I can find the surface you are suturing on for my practicing? Thanks!

  • Very nice... +1

  • @doctorlyon I am not criticizing any one, but it may be a good idea for those of you that never operate outside of operation room to practice on different needles and material just for emergency. I found it incredibly hard to do suturing with certain types of threads, and also it is hard to bend needle on site (if you need a curved one )because the needles simply break.

  • @doctorlyon A high student of mine worked as forest fire fighter during summer breaks. Once his uncle injured himself on one of their patrolling tour in the Northern Ontario forest. He used fish hooks, fishing thread, and nothing else to mend his uncle. They were 15 minutes away from the helicopter pick-up point, and it took them three hours to get through the under growth. Eventually when they got to the ER the doctor opened up the dressing and said:" Oh, it is sutured." And sent them home

  • @chenk002 That's a terrible idea. There's nothing emergent about suturing a wound and your friend just set up his uncle for an infection.

  • @doctorlyon Regarding your last sentence: this is clearly a demonstration, not practice. The intended audience (anyone suturing in the OR) would obviously already have sterile gloves on, ergo this doesn't set a bad precedent for PPE. Don't critique videos if you do so soley out of arrogance.

  • it is ok about the demonstration but for the bigginers it is hard to understand specially were is the cut site that would be sutured.

  • i think she is using silk in zis suture ,but there is also other materials zat u can use like vicryle ,proline & cat gut

  • Just out of curiousity, what is the material that you are using to suture on? I'm not a med student or anything, so i dont have access to any real skin...except my own. And I dont really wanna use that for this kinda thing...if absolutely neccessary.

  • im a trainee surgeon and i practice on pigs trotters/feet, they are probably one of the closest things to human tissue thats fairly affordable. all the best

  • @Quadropheniac15

its a skin simulator, like a self healing piece of rubber

    that has foam under it

  • thank you for the videos..i'm a medical student and i really found them helpful,,i also agree with the no touch approach,,but this is for educational purposes so that's ok i guess :)

  • I'm putting 1st aid kits together for wilderness activities. I can include suturing kits and know how to use them. Thanks.

  • Great review. Good job erin. Thanks for posting this.

  • excellent effort!!

  • yes, neat job but she needs to use the forceps instead of using her fingers! serious health and safety issues there. Thanks for the video

  • Well, she should use the forceps, however in the field, there is a suture technique known as the two hand tie, in which you use your hands. Also, she should be wearing appropriate nitrile gloves when suturing. So with gloves, there is a low chance of contamination.

  • Your videos are great, I think that the volume is too low...., but great job !!

  • good job....really amazing...i'd like to mention that she has sexy voice

  • Nice Erin, I would like to make a few constructive criticisms, though I also found it difficult initially but do try to pull out and also change direction of the needle using only the tissue holding forceps and not by ur fingers protects u from needle injuries.

    Cheers!
