  • too bad we don't have this kind of talent in the time...take that back, we may have just a few but none like this....voice of gold!

  • I miss this woman and her music!!! R.I.P. Phyliss Hyman!!!

  • okay i finally decided to listen to her version. Bobby's timeless but wtf man Phyllis sang all the stank off this song. If i heard this song today I would buy a seat to all of concerts man

  • Of course Bobby's version is timeless, well duh. But lets give Phyllis Hyman her due respect. This woman is singing like SHE MEANS IT!

  • CANT beat BOBBY !! just CANT

  • this women was sooo gorgeous..

  • Phyllis did a nice job of this too.

  • Bobby wrote for Boz scaggs!!! lol!!!!

  • Smoke DZA - Pow Wow

  • wish i lived back then with these great artists like her R.I.P.

  • Some forget to honor our belove Phyllis Hyman - R.I.P. Love you forever, guuuurrrrl...

  • @Loving1on1 She is one of my favs and I can never forget her. Not just because she was one of a kind, but also because she killed herself on my birthday. :-(

  • beautiful voice!

  • bobby caldwell

  • NO ONE CAN SING THIS SONG LIKE HER flat out!!!!

  • beautiful

  • She's sailing with that groove, fantastic!

  • Great song. Great talent.

  • I wonder what Bobby Caldwell thinks of this version. How awesome would have been if her and Bobby did a duet. OMG I would melt.

  • I love this cover so much. She had such a powerhouse voice that is totally uncomparable to anyone's

  • damn i always thought chaka did the best covers of songs but phyllis is the one

  • This version is the only one even comparable to Bobby Caldwell's version.

  • who sang this first..??????

  • @GFunkIsHere2Stay Bobby Caldwell / titled of his 1978 album.

  • @ladybret

    thx lady...now i know

  • bobby caldwell....

  • did she write this?

  • @dreadedwheat26 Bobby Caldwell wrote this, 1978. :)

  • The lovely Phyliis Hyman,. who towards the end had a troubled

soul but her excellent music will always live on.

  • One of my all time fav singers and Fav tracks :)

  • You are in the presence of your creator now, sweet one , peace be still...

  • Love you Ms. Phyllis, tragic end to an amazing talent! Hope you've found peace my angel!

  • she was pretty

  • that's my girl!

  • Ms. Hyman struggled with addiction and depression. She never reached the mainstream acclaim worthy of a woman of her talent. Tragically, her life was cut short. She chose to end her daily struggle with pain and sadness.

  • Best voice ever imho. Phyllis not only had power to her voice but true soul and emotion. I miss her so much and the world lost so much when she left us.

  • jeez, must we always put her suicide against her? it's honestly none of our business. just enjoy the music that she made and left us... <3

  • @sugaresplosion AMEN

  • @sugaresplosion Thank You for respecting Mrs. Hyman

  • @sugaresplosion forget them they'll be here till Jesus comes back and they 'll be left!

    Peyce 7 Cheers

    Mr. Chip's (still missing Phyllis)

  • @sugaresplosion Well said. We celebrate her life!!

  • SINNER or NOT...we need to not judge...she was an incredible artist/vocalist...UNTOUCHABLE! R I P Ms. Hyman...this is GREAT!

  • @TonneEsthetics JUDGE NOT!

  • @MrTre5670 just a note-if you don't learn how to make "righteous" judgment and make a stand against these ungodly, money hungry apostate church leaders and discern biblical righteousness, then you will fall for everything. Expose darkness means "judge" unrighteousness, the unfruitful deeds of darkness Ephesians 5:10-11. God Bless

  • that's a serious opening with that bass..nice

  • @AleekahTV YES IT IS

  • I love this woman, but the fact is that she killed herself and that is a sin

  • @misscontinental WE ARE ALL BORN SINNERS

  • @MrTre5670 -be do we stay sinners? Once our minds our renewed we then (read Romans 12;1-2). Sin and righteousness "cannot" cohabitate together. Do you practice daily how to sin or how to live righteously? Practice makes perfect (mature) Matthew 5:48. God is a holy God, therefore "practice" holiness, righteousness, and godliness daily, and then it becomes second nature in your life. But the opposite applies aslo. You cannot cohabitate with someone you're not married to, that's blatant willful sin

  • anything she touched was never the same

  • @MrKeithMJones TELL ME ABOUT IT

  • She covers Bobby caldwell's classic beautifully.

  • @fantasyflight1 VERY CLASSY

  • sounds real good sexy

  • Magnificent version

  • Who's playing Bass on this?!! TIGHT!!!

  • @mars0266 Alvin Moody

  • @ladybret Thank you ladybret!! I'm a "Bass" man, granted I love powerful vocals like Phyllis Hyman's, but the bass adds just the right touch.

  • @mars0266

    RON RICHARDSON

  • @Snoopfluff Thanks for the info!!

  • @mars0266 NOW THIS IS REAL MUSIC

  • Bobby Caldwell is best version of this song.

  • @ZadiLady yea i agree

  • @ZadiLady can't feny that, 80's UK duo Go West do a good version too

  • I TO am a singer..I draw was inspired by tony bennett, as well as sam cooke..but i am ME. i dont try to sing like Anyone..i sing from my heart. i listened to the carpenters, elvis, beatles..young rascals..three dog night..as well as motown..I sing like NONE of them. i am me..i dont sing soul..i jus sing whats in my heart. if i sound soulful its not because i am trying..or if i sing like like jack jones ..its not becaue i try to.

  • 1st of all, I was STUNNED to learn that Bobby Caldwell is white. I almost fell out of the chair when I saw it. Soul knows no race really.

Phyllis Hyman is the very best female voice I have ever heard simply... I am hard pressed to find anyone who is better..

  • @mrhowardb I have said a long time ago..folks need to Stop sleeping on white vocalist. I am a child from the 60s born in the mid late 50s..white folks have been singing their souls for years and many dont get the credit..people are going to Learn that its all about the Individual..Soul does NOT belong to black people only..If my black people would just pust aside the bias false myths that may whites can sing just as good and better than some blacks. it would be a better world.

  • @blkshepherd I think the reason most black peole are so protective of Soul music because it's really the only genre left that white people haven't really been able to take and appropriate. Rock & Roll, Blues, Jazz all started in the African American community but today the legends rarely get the credit they deserve. I think it has to do do more with culture than anything.

  • @Giharl21 breaks my heart..but on the same coin..its also sad when white artist take a black artist song style and become greater than the black artist who may have had the song out first. take Hound Dog. few folks knew big mama thorton or heard of her. But Elvis took that song to No.1. and got most the credit. but that can b music in general. Take Respect. everyone thinks it belongs to Aretha and she did it first. she did not Otis Redding did. same with at last. etta j. was not Her song.

  • @blkshepherd It's definately fustrating when you see people take credit for other artist work. And not even pay homage to them. In recent years I look at people like Justin Timberlake who clearly imitate artist like Prince. But not once have I heard him say that Prince was his inspiration for his album. If you listen to Justin's song "End of Time" it could clearly be a B side to Prince's "Beautiful Ones". That's why I respect artist like Joss Stone, Christina Aguilera & Pink.

  • @Giharl21 I am into Voice..i dont put color to it..jus like acting..My favorite actress were joan crawford and bette davis..i hav no fav black actresses..none..but i respect a few. thats just the way it is..same as when i dress and pick clothes..i dont try to dress black..i wear what I think looks good on me..has nothing to with being black..or white. and i dont have to give credit to anyone as It is My personal taste in style. i also dont follow any group

  • @blkshepherd And if color doesn't meaning anything to you, why debate whether white singers have soul or not?

  • @Giharl21 I DONT have a problem with it the person that made the comment about not knowing bobby caldweld was white brought up the issue. I am not gonna GO bac and forth with You this the last time i reply. I stated my opinion. End of Conversation

  • @Giharl21 ..but getting back to the white vs black soul..its sad. because their are some white artist who were and are just Great. and its not necessarily belting out a song. I grew up with something called music appriecation. so i was introduced to all generes of music..glad i did. Music is colorless..and so is Soul

  • @blkshepherd Those artist I mentioned before along with ones like Robin Thicke, Remy Shand, Amy Winehouse and others. All give respect and due to the black artist that have inspired them. And that's what I respect, I don't think that only black artist should or can do Soul. I think that if you have the voice and the sincerity to pull it off than it's your to do. But we can't deny or forget where it came from. And the people that pioneered it.

  • @Giharl21 sorry i disagree..soul does Not belong to any group..soul is from within..i do not agree

  • @blkshepherd Well that's your opinion and you're free to have your own opinion. Mine is that soul came from the gospel and the blues. Both within the African American community. You said you grew up with "music appreciation". Respecting where a genre of music originated is part of appreciating it.If soul came from Ireland than I would say it came from Ireland. But it came from African Amercian's, it's just a simple fact. It's great that you don't see color but that doesn't mean it doesnt exist

  • @Giharl21 What gets on my DAMN nerves is folks like you. You are dismissed.

  • @Giharl21 What gets on my DAMN nerves is folks like you. I DONT NEED you to tell me where Soul originated from AGAIN SOUL is NOT a color..get that through your thick skull. .

  • @Giharl21 ~ nope. emotions are real. that's human. We don't need "meds" to dampen our emotions. Emotions can reflect rational thought. Emotions can reflect the place the speaker was coming from. Emotions, are necessary; they helped create this kind of art, which provided a place for these debates to take place; They reflect our humanity. Everything doesn't boil down to a +b = c. Besides all that, it's really important to make genuine effort to bridge gaps and understand the other.... nuf

  • @baiNEKO Beautifully said. Thank you. :)

  • A very, very rare talent. We were blessed to have heard her.

  • I love me some phyllis

  • @SuperTonman i second that ^_^
