  • Wow!! SIGALEEEEE !!!!! haters are everywhere!!!!!! but never stop us!!! :)

These individuals are trashing our Latini Culture

  • I'm so sad... I spent hours looking at this video recently because I just performed a show (3 days ago) using the same song, and being very much inspired by those guys, their fantastic choreography, talent and technique. and I wasn't even aware of the very bad news. I was so much expecting to see more from them. Life is not fair.... RIP Yen.... Nobody in the salsa world will never forget you.

    Walid, from Paris, France.

  • AWESOME! Such clean dancers. Ladies, take notes haha. Thanks for sharing this video.

  • Amazing Dancers.....WOW,WOW,WOW. They are so talented. Dancing is not about gender, it is about happiness, joy, life, it is about PASSION.

  • Thank you for sharing your talents with everyone. Eli has incredible control. I can't wait to see you perform and compete again. As for all the haters, what eles is knew, whenever someone reaches the top, people always try to bring them down.

  • Do these two dance with girls too? This is not prejudice, I just wanna see if they dance with girls

  • Great dancers, too bad they don't dance with women! Not that I'm a homphobic, but the lady is the picture and what captivates the audience. The man is the frame, sortof hidden in the background making sure that the lady shines.

Having 2 male or 2 female dancers perform together confuses the viewer and takes away from their true potential.

These two male dancers are great dancers, but as I said before, too bad they didn't have females as partners.

  • Wow wow wow!!! This is the firs time ever I feel compelled to write a comment. This is an amazing performance. Looking forwards to seeing them in Japan Salsa Congress!

  • more women need to dance like this. too much emphasis is put on sexy girls with even sexier costumes and not on actual dancing ability.

    Flawless!!!!

  • watch this video a couple of times. eli is flawless!!!! try and do better. it might be impossible!!!

  • I can stop watching this vid,,,,,,,, it is just amazing the skills this 2 guys have, I am a girl and even though i am sexy when dancing salsa don't even come close .......lol but saw the other video when thet announce the winners Liz Lira was so mad she didn't show up to the stage.............lmao girl get over it you can't win all the time .......don't hate congratulate

  • Wow !!! Amazing

  • so fresh and so CLEAN CLEAN!! i <3 Eli and Yen!!

  • i know them both and they are without a doubt thee best! no one can do better!!! amazing!!!

  • Amazing dancers and congrats to both. I'm happy to see two men dancing in a major competition because most competitions have rules that only a man and a woman can be partners. Dancing should have nothing to do with being a male or a female but about the skills you have as a dancer. Point proven by Eli and Yen. Keep it up and thanks for having the "COJONES" to do it in a well known competition. we should say thank you to the HATERS in philly for helping us move along the road to success. Luv u

  • Just wondering if any one that posted a negative comment can do 20 single footed spins?? Get over the fact that they are both men, as a leader and a follower which is what the competition is about they are both fantastic. They are both extremely talented, dedicated to the art and they are constantly improving. They won because they are the best and they worked for it, they deserve it.

  • @tdk586 thanks so much for saying this,, i could not have said it better,, all the haters out there talking about there needs to be a woman and a man only are full of shit,, wake up haters,, the world has changed big time since your little shells,,I have been a dancer for 16 years now and ALL my respect goes out to Yen (RIP) and Eli,,, these competitions are about leading, following, showmanship, technique and creativity,, not about who has a penis and who has a vagina,,, YOU GO BOYS!!!!!!

  • i think the Colombian couple should have won lol

  • impresionanteeeeeeeeeeeee

  • It is "Salsa y Sabor" by Tito Puente

  • Just wondering what the name of this song is??

    thanks!

  • I live in Philly have taken lessons with Eli and have danced with Eli and Yen. They are perpetually practicing and honing their craft. I see them out at the salsa clubs all the time and watching them dance here and even more so in person is fabulous and stunning to see. They are the cream of the salsa crop, deserve this award and the praise that goes with it. Eli and Yen, CONGRATULATIONS, HONEYS, MWAH! KEEP Doing what you're doin' as I know you will. from LC.

  • that was awesome, and they well deserved to win, but spare a thought for the other couples, especially the women...they just got beat...by a man. The judges have basically ruled that Eli is a better "woman" than them. And while you'll get no argument from me (they clearly were the best), you have to feel a little sorry for the girls....

  • I live in Philly and have seen Eli on the salsa seen a lot. He is also a great leader, and teacher as well. However, he has taken the art of following to another level. The women can learn a lot from him.

  • Another reason I like their perfomance is because they attack the routine from beginning to end. There is no room for bordom like I see in many routines. It's action from start to finish.

  • does anyone know the name of the song?

  • That was really good .........they have great technique and there spinning is pretty crazy .......

  • Great job! that is what a salsa competition is about very nice and so clean, I am originally from LA but I have to admit they deserve the first place...Congratulations!.

  • ummmm

has anybody noticed that eli is the KING of single footed spins?

i remember in the 2007 ESPN eli and yen competed and were the only couple that demonstrated fast multiple single footed spins. it was only after them that you see all this salseros attempting fast multiple single footed spins. everytime i see them they get faster and better.

  • Eli has unbelievable balance, plus his moves are extremely polished. Flawless, and I also agree it takes time to develop chemistry with a partner to dance in such a manner. They will only improve. I emailed Eli and he responded today and thanked me for the comments and support. He deserves every bit of it, and I hope to see him one of the clubs here in Philly dancing. As his popularity grows, the sights are become lesser and lesser. Way to go Eli. You are definitely the prince of Philly Salsa!

  • i don't understand why people are hating on them...like they did anything wrong to any of you. it's ridiculous.

PLUS from my understanding they made history for being the only couple out of state or international to have ever won the mayan in what 13 or 14 years. now THAT says a lot. lets all just take a deep breath go on with our lives and give props where props should be given. don't stress it out these two are world class dancers. period.

  • Last, the reason why it looks so good is because Eli is an extremely polished dancer. He makes his moves look unique and uncopied. That's what gets him over. Plus he doesn't allow bordom within his style. That is what makes him The King of Philly Salsa.

    The End.

  • wow philly seems to be filled with a bunch of ugly people that hate on everyone's talent....well they can bitch all they want but Eli and Yen are still the Mayan World Salsa Champions....to the victor the spoils of war

  • i'm from philly......the reason why people have not made a big deal out of this is because Philly is filled with a bunch of HATERS. I've been in the scene for 10 years...i'm a 37 year old woman who is not about to sugar coat anything. other dancers in philly are jealous that these guys out of nowhere brought a WORLD Championships to Philadelphia. and yes they are the only world salsa champions in philadelphia.

  • truthbtold, you are exactly right. I've been on the salsa scene in Philly long enough to know you are telling the truth. Most instructors here in Philly are more about selling lessons and showing off that being a competitor, and a real teacher. Eli is the real deal from the heart, and like truthbtold has said, many are extremely jealous of what he has accomplished. He' s just being him. Guy/Guy team or not; Eli and Yen are to be reckoned with. End of story. He deserves all of the kudos.

  • These guys are definitely amongst the top dancers out there.

It will be definitely interesting to see them compete at the ESPN. It is more tougher competition simply because many of the best in the world try to compete there. Mayan is prestigious competition but world championship it is not! It has a very heavy local LA bias to it. I have heard it from out-of-town competitors many many times. That they could win in LA says a lot about them.

  • I'm curious why the Philly All Stars (pro dancers or those who claim to be pro) haven't blown up the you tube and internets giving shout outs and big ups to Eli and Yen. Of course, some Philly salseros and salseras have done well on the national scene but this is the first time (as far as I know) anyone has brought home the gold.

This victory is a milestone for Philly salsa but you wouldn't know it.

Maybe it's typical Philly sh*t. If we can boo Santa, there's no way we'll cheer for this duo.

  • I'm from philly....it is a shame that other so called professionals in philly have not congratulated them. I've been going out every day since Eli and Yen won the Mayan and not once did the DJs announce that they were proud to have Phillys first and only World Salsa Champion. From my experience...philly is filled with a bunch of haters. i myself am extremely proud of Eli and Yen's accomplishment they are truly the best not just in Philly but the WORLD.

  • I agree. I was at the Reef tonight in Philly, and not once did Figueroa mention that Eli and Yen won the Mayan.

  • Actually I danced with both and they were both great

  • This is no doubt great entertainment and a nice choreography...but it's ashame when there are so many partnerless women out there that two guys are partnering up. Also I don't think that they would get the kind of reception they're getting if they were partnered up with women. I think they would look average...so I guess that's why they partnered up...it's quite a novelty act. I'd challenge them to partner up with a women and both lead and see how successful they are in a competition.

  • Eli is extremely talented. He can lead or follow. As you can see he's an incredible partner for Yen's lead. It was difficult for him to find a female dancer with compatible skills or a female who could be trained to reach his level.

Add to that, his diminutive size limited the number of women with whom he could partner professionally. I would think seeing a female towering over her partner would be as rare as two men dancing together.

  • Well I'm sure he won't have a problem finding a parnter now. Wouldn't it be something if both of them came back next year with female partners and competed for the title against each other?? Now that would be off the hook!

  • you must really not like these guys...if you only knew that eli has been around for a whilte now in the philly salsa scene as a LEADER not a follower that has been a recent thing. and hey a guy that can both lead and follow only makes for a greater dancer and teacher.

  • Actually to the contrary, I think they are SPECTACULAR in this performance, however, I'd like to see them both lead and see how they would do in future competitions...I think it would make for some pretty exciting stuff, don't you, especially if they competed against each other in next year's competition? Also I think the reason this act is so spectacular is because one doesn't expect to see a man so competent as a follower.

  • Exactly, from what I understand, Eli is even better as a follower. However, I've seen him lead, and I think he's just a good.

  • i agree that would interesting. however, partnerships are not made out of the blue. why are oliver and luda good? because they've been working together for 12 years ask them. zulmara and abel for about 5 years as well.. you can't just partner up with anybody and in two months expect to win. with time and training and passion anybody not just eli and yen can accomplish great things

  • but you know zulmara and abel meet 5 months before the world championships and they still won first and they is also some people who just have that connection with and other partner when they dance lol but ya mostly dancers have to partner up and mabe with time but i think that a routine would be better with connections and not all couples have that

  • What they've shown is that it doesn't matter who you partner up with; it's all about the choreography, originality, and individual talent. Once you watch them, you truly forget it's two guys dancing together.

  • I'm really happy for Eli. He's been in the salsa game for a long time.

  • I'm from Philly, and have seen Eli dance in real time alot. He is an extraordinary talent when it comes to salsa; one of the best followers I've ever seen. He also has unbelievable balance. I consider him the KING of Philly salsa.

  • i LOVE this... i saw them perform this at los angeles salsa congress and it was just amazing

  • this is beautiful!

  • dejo inmundas a todas las mujeres

  • aaaiiiiii TREMENDOSSSSSSSSSS

  • These guys are AWESOME! I saw them social dance, too - they are on another level!

  • spectacular se merecieron el primer premio

  • They are absolutely amazing! They are setting the bar and showing what real salsa is all about. My jaw stayed on the ground during their performance and this wasn't the first time I saw them perform. I could only dream to dance like that. It was like watching them dance on air. Again. . FABULOUS!

  • WOW!!!! These guys rock. They are the absolute best!

    So much talent!

  • So beautiful. What a performance. What a statement.

  • amazing jajajajaja god job guys!!!

  • The BEST! Thank you for sharing your talent and making the world a better place.

  • GO JOTOS! haha

  • really good great job work it man

  • So f'ing awesome! This is what we're capable of - really nice job!

  • Great Performance!!

  • I loved watching these guys! absolutely amazing - so clean and controlled. cant wait to see them perform again :)

  • hahaha nice and clean

  • Great performance. Clean and impressive.

  • These guys placed first even though one of the judges gave them a score of only 5 out of 25 points! Prejudice... I can't believe a judge at a professional dance competition can get away with something like that. Meanwhile, two of the other judges gave them perfect score! This routine was so original, smooth, precise and clean, it was just a pleasure to watch. It's refreshing to see a couple from out of town beat the LA dancers at the Mayan!

  • I'm curious to know who the judge was that gave them a 5 out of 25 points?

  • I can't recall the name, but I know Gingi K. took a picture of the scores. I wonder if she will be posting it online...

  • Fabia Barsic. I think she's William Ochoa's wife?

  • i love these guys...i've become a fan since their puerto rico performance...where they also got a standing ovation. wherever you are guys i'm your #1 fan. YOU ARE NUMBER 1!!!!!!!

  • Did anyone notice that the follower DANCED THE WHOLE SONG on demi-point? (At least that's how it looks like from the video)

WOW! Amazing talent! Whn I grow up I want to be just like him!! :-)

  • Clean...Clean...Clean!!!!

From Los Angeles.... Congratulations an a job well done!

  • to ZulamarwantsME...

RIGHT ON POINT! you said it yourself! I was there and I'm so glad that this couple WON THE MAYAN. I mean look at the follower he's got it all: flexibility, styling (the best styling on stage), don't even get me started with his control over his spins. the great thing is that they don't just stop after the spin they combine it with some other move. And last but not least this couple has got MAD FLAVOR! my respects hands down the best of the entire night!

  • I truly hope this is where dance competitions are heading. I get tired of seeing the spins, then the OJP. For the uninformed that's the Open-Jump-Pose. The OJP is classic in LA for people that can't control their spins.

  • all talent no trash how refreshing

  • you right men
