Good luck with your shama! They probably need to hear other birds sing. Ours came to us as an adult and already knew how to sing but he started mimicking other sounds, like the cat, and loved to accompany music CDs. He liked faster music, and wouldn't sing to slower songs. Taming is a matter of moving slowly and thinking calm thoughts. Yingshiong first got used to us just sitting quietly in the same room with him.
I clicked on this because the title made me go "WHAT!?!?? HAHAHA!" But it's a gorgeous bird with a lovely song :-)

How Yingshiong came to me was reported here
Search Livejournal for shanlung and 22492
YS was a wild caught shama at 3 years old and came to me when he was about 5 years old.
The training and bonding that we did was covered daily in continuation of above blog.
Within a month, YS flew to me when I called.
Warmest regards
Shanlung

The short answer is, Yingshiong was a gift from a shama owner. The long answer would be from my husband Shanlung.
