Very, very nice playing. However, it instantly reminds me of Adrian Legg and his astonishing technique. Using a B-bender is child's play compared to his stuff - no offense intended whatsoever.
Dear Soren, the universal joy of the Telecaster is endless. I just saw the B-bender at Guitar Center in Boston this us Labor Day ( What a Laugh!) Untill I saw your video I wasn't very impressed, but your use of the reverse release really shows what the device can do. Nevertheless, the B-bender seems somewhat limited... It seems many good players can achieve the same effect with good ole' string pulling. ( More to come)
@00Jackacid - More...good ole' string pulling. When I was playing country-rock up in Woodstock, NY the summer of '76 there was a fellow player with a string-bender mechanism, but as I recall it worked with a lever off the back of the guitar that you pressed against you body...I think he could bend more than one string at a time as well. I ran into him at a diner in Kingston off the Thru-way some years later, but didn't realize what a great guy he was until later. God Bless...B. Holvenstot
I am saving up to get a G and L classic tele and have gene parsons install a b bender himself and have it shipped back to me ,.It will happen in 4 months!!
The Parsons White is the best of the 3 I have tried. I can even add a G bender or D to the White, but not the Parsons Green bender. The Glaser has too short a throw for most players to get used to. It is cleaner looking, but if you can't play it why bother with it. These are still the best ones around for what my opinion is worth. Dallas Steel is selling them through WD now, and for $600 or so I can retrofit most Teles.
Its such a beautiful guitar and sound. Telecasters are amazing alone, but the b bender is a grand invention. How much did one of those set you back? Nice upload, and playing:) do you play any byrds songs?
@rishino i broke 3 B strings the first day bending it all over the place but i put a heavier b string on and no probs..was using an .11 now a .13 and seems to be ok..
@mrlandroverdiscovery Listen to "Yesterdays Train" on Byrds "Untitled" album. Amazing B-bender licks by Clarence White duplicate the pedal steel sound so realistically, you'll be amazed!
@mrlandroverdiscovery all the Clarence white period BYRDS records from Younger than Yesterday up to Further Along. Clarence white also plays b bender guitar on '12 songs ' by Randy Newman and on Gene parsons' 1st solo LP.
Gene Parsons needed 300$ from my dad to start the b bender company and my dad wouldn't do it because he didn't think anyone would buy it haha. He still talks to Gene every once in awhile.
Very good picking. FYI, the original Clarence White./ Gene Parsons Telecaster is in the very capable hands of Marty Stuart. Licks from Hillbilly Rock and up to today he's played on Clarence's guitar. I've seen the video of Gene explaining how the B bender came about. Very cool, thanks!
@mgsg50 I put a HipShot b-bender that I picked up from Will Ray on my Fender Nashville Telecaster and it works quite well, it takes about a half hour to install. Much easier than routing out the back!!!
in some cases a tremolo wouldnt be practical. With this device it smoothly, I repeat, smoothly make the transition from one note to a full-step higher. Tremolo's for one, arent all the same, so they have a tendency to provide tuning problems, and two, arent always set up to be floating so going a full step wouldnt be possible. Floyd Roses, Bigsby's, Vibrola's, and Fender Strat bridges are all different in terms of what they are meant to do and how they sound
Thanks for sharing that, what an awesome device, I've never been into Tele's until recently so wasn't even aware of this modification until now. Thanks for enlightening me. ;-) Great sound too btw.
this is great. i like this video. i hate it when i want to see how something works, so they show they playing with it, but they play with it once or twice, or play it to often and not show us how it can be used, or don't put it into a reall world context. thats why i like this video, he showed it in a perfect way.
Awesome! You have great chops and a fantastic tone. Nicely done! That B-bender sounds really great. Are they commercially available, or were they a limited run?
The B-Bender allows you to bend one string up and bend a string down at the same time. Its impossible on a normal guitar. Its not destroyed. They come fitted with it
i final know what that device is on that tele, i saw a random picture of it which had zero explanation of what it did. thats pretty cool though, never do that to my tele but i want to play one of these babies!
