By boosting again. If you charge it fully (bar completely red) they overlap, and when overlapped they are postponed rather than lost. You just have to boost alot and you will maintain your boost for a while when you stop. You can hear that i'm about to lose all boost at about 1:42-1:43

Oxide." so is that PAL version since i really cant get under 49 sec :P
The wikia is wrong then. Penta penguin has the N.Oxide perfect stats in PAL. Well technically I don't know if they are perfect or exactly the same, I just know he has full top speed and his drifting is better than the other top speed characters.
I don't know if it is the case in NTSC for sure by the way (I never got it confirmed), but NTSC players have always claimed that penta has the same stats as pura and polar so... :P

Just keep practicing, it does take some time and experience to really get comfortable with the physics of the game.
I guess you already know, but try to delay your turbos as much as possible (bar fully red), and try to do as many as possible in one drift as the later ones are stronger - Don't do the first ones faster to get more late turbos though, quality over quantity.
It's pretty easy to check the top speed thing by the way, just turn on the speedometer instead of the map and maintain full speed after a turbo pad for a while, the arrow should point straight up if it's a top speed character (i'm 90% on this at least :P)
In the european (PAL) version of the game, penta penguin has perfect stats so he's simply the best character. IMO also one of the coolest though, but I probably would use polar more if penta wasn't 10x better in time trial :P
Haha, well yeah I actually have done slightly better, but the ghost beating me is a glitch in the game. Ghosts often drive way too fast at the end only to stop right before the finish line. This run was faster than my record at the time as far as i remember :)

I've replied to this too many times to make a long elaborate response. You cannot cheat in time trials in PAL. At all.
The reason I have boost even when not boosting is because you can start a new boost before your old one is used up and then the game saves your boost. This is why it is also important to charge each boost for as long as possible.

Yes, but penta penguin has worse stats in NTSC. In PAL he has the same stats as oxide (i think. Possibly all perfect/full), in NTSC I believe he has the same stats as polar or pura. He is supposedly worse than PAL penta anyway.
So yeah with this character your time will be worse, but all the techniques exist in NTSC as well. :)
You can get this on psp, just buy it from the online store. You can probably get it in less legal ways as well, I hear people hacked the psp quite badly.

From what i could get out of your text through a translator you claim i use an infinite turbo cheat? afaik it doesn't even exist and furthermore no cheats except for turbo counter and mentioned penta would work in time trial anyway. The other characters don't take anymore skill however and there's nothing "wrong" with using penta in this mode. Some tracks even favour the other characters you mentioned.

Yeah, I'm playing the PAL version. After I posted my message I beat Oxide by following your advice that you gave to someone else. I'm really struggling with Dingo Canyon though >_<
I'm trying to emulate your exact pattern and I'm hopeless. My best time is .50 seconds for a lap. How do you get ahead of Oxide so early on? I'm not even on the barrels until about .28 seconds. How do you do it?!
1) Is it the american version you are trying to TAS? Penta penguin is slower in the american version of the game.
2) When you hit a super turbo pad you cannot do another turbo as it will slow you down
3) Make sure to not make boosts fast, it's better to delay them as long as possible and fill up the red gauge completely (so if you're going frame by frame you should fill it up completely every time)
One year ago I commented on this video asking for tips onto how to use the superturbo at 00:41 to bring me all the way past the line and into the following lap and I took your advice :P
pure skill. 5 stars and favourited. My best is only 2:26 on n gin labs but having said that I did use the main green speed pad in the middle of the track at the end of the lap, and not that super fast one on the right.
I don't think there is such a cheat. Either way i didn't use it. It's just that when you do a new miniturbo overlapping the previous one, the boost from the previous one isn't lost and you can keep boost without turboing for a longer period of time. Actually there is even a glitch that if you do it enough you will end up with infinite top speed, but without the turbo effects (not that they matter you keep the top speed), and if you miniturbo much after that it will reset to zero hehe.
@stelzig Oh okay that makes more sense now, i've been practicing this level heaps after seeing this video but so far my best lap time is about 48 seconds, your awesome!
You see the turbo pad that i don't boost after? It drains your reserves of boost pretty quickly, but it also has a higher top speed than normally. it's one of the few defeault "super turbo pads" that there is a cheat to get (that cheat doesn't work in time trial in the european and australian version though).
So yeah after passing those try not to get any new boost, brake, or crash since any of those things will send you down to normal speed and still drain your reserves a bit. ;)

Hey. I'm not quite sure what you mean. Just jump after a miniturbo? You should only do that to drift for another miniturbo or skipping a gap. The reason i do it at 0:08 specifically is because i'm using a slightly random trick that makes the game send me lower and further over the gap from the turbo pad. At 0:39 i'm approaching a super turbo pad which gives me a higher top speed than normally which is why i try not to use any other turbos for as long as possible after hitting it.
Oh and i have the highest speed possible at all times in this run. Except maybe for a split second i didn't at 1:43, but i didn't lose much time on it. The actual max speed in the game i only have between the 3rd and 4th turbo pad (4th is the tunnel) and the last and the first on all laps.
If it only works for those few seconds then it's either because you jump, because you don't boost enough before it, or before the miniturbos you make aren't charged properly (the more red before releasing the better)
Some turbo pads give extra high speed as long as you haven't used all the boost you've saved up before hitting them and as long as you don't use any other type of boost, brake, or crash. :)
its not great cuz, he used some cheap shortcuts to cut time... try 2:05 legit you wasted some green boosts.... and do you know how to even go to the secret room where oxide goes right before the long jump?
Oxide doesn't go into any secret room and i absolutely waste him here. 2:05 is not possible without the super turbo pad cheat which only works in NTSC so if you have 2:05 then you performed it that way. Unless you, like many people, talk about relic race where much better can be done.
In conclusion: You have no idea what you're talking about and are full of shit lol.
Oh and i forgot to mention "green boosts" help absolutely nothing after you reach top speed once except for possibly giving you a few reserves so you can stay at top speed for longer without miniturboing. Look at the turbo meter it does not go down. *will continue*.
Of course this is once again assuming you don't use super turbo pads because those have indeed got bigger boosts. 2 turbo pads on this level are naturally super turbo pads (the last one and the one i decide to hit instead of the last one) which is why i don't do minturbos after them because i want to keep the new speedlevel and i will lose it once i do a different kind of turbo
A full charged boost lasts so long that you can do another one before it stops and what wasn't used goes into "reserves". Then some turbo pads give higher speedboost than normal (such as the one used in this vid) and if you save your reserves for them the reserves' will have the same level as the special turbo pad. It will go back to normal if you do ANY other kind of boost after hitting it however.
Penta is generally accepted in the community as he in no way makes the game easier and can be accessed by anyone without any hacking device.
There is a problem with his stats being better in europe than in america though, but rest assured the only cheat i use in this game is a code that unlocks an extra character in the game. The only other cheat that works in time trials (in the european version) anyway is the one that counts miniturbos which is useless.

at 0:41 i think it's more or less the same. They both have the super turbo properties, i feel this one is slightly faster though.
Do you jump off of them and get a miniturbo? You mustn't jump or miniturbo as it'll replace your super turbo boost. If you do know this already then the reason is simply that you don't have enough "reserves" to keep the turbo speed for as long and you need to practice doing more and better miniturbos around the track :)
And no, I don't miniturbo after I've hit the ground, I just steer and let the turbo boost take me through. but I lose speed quite fast, rarely getting to the finish line.
I'll try doing what you said, just generally getting faster around the rest of the track and reply then.
You mean jump down and hit the turbo pad? Well there's no real secret to it other than jump right before you drop just like i do over the gap right after. If you are having trouble with it though, then you can just use the normal turbo pad (and DON'T JUMP - turbo boost landing makes you slow because it's a super turbo pad) is pretty much just as fast.
As for keeping super turbo speed from one of those 2 pads you need to have alot of reserves by making long miniturbos before it and none after
when i was racing in 2p mode.... when i reach the final lap and get past to my brother which is 2p...
and i get in 1st place.....
then when i will go in the lap for entering the final lap, it is still the same and i saw my count turns to 6th place..... damn! i am in first position but you will see that the first one is the last one to finish!!!
Oxide is only available through gameshark as far as i know. It's a cheating/hacking device.
You say you did use turbo pads? Do you have the american version of the game (i noticed you're from croatia) because it doesn't work in time trials in the european version... Likewise penta is the same as polar and pura in the american, and only perfect stats in the european.
You know that's only .03 off the world record right? And you probably don't even know what saffi fire is. I'm gonna say you either also used the super turbo pads cheat or simply are making it up ;)

I agree other characters are more fun (and fair) in multiplayer, but when i'm time trialing i'm gonna go for the fastest character possible. It doesn't really make it any less challenging, it just makes the standards higher =P
That character is commonly allowed in the competitive time trial envoirment. He does not make the game easier in any way. If anything he makes it harder because you race faster.
I would not choose those 2 slow characters instead if i couldn't use penta i'd use a top speed character and maybe lose a second or two because i lost a little in drift. Could probably make a sub 2:09 strat with them as well, but i wouldn't bother when this character is just better for the map.
Penta penguin has full speed stat like the fastest characters (tropy, tiny, dingo, papu) as well as the perfect turning like pura and polar. I think his acceleration is perfect as well. In NTSC he's exact copies of polar and pura i think so there is indeed a difference.
This doesn't mean he's infinitely better than the other fast characters though because you can MT more straight with a low drift making him worse on for instance crash cove :)

yeah i screwed up on the final lap already during the ultra ghost part (i think it's what you call ultra ghost... The 2 ramps before the USF pad) and then also lost USF. As i said in the description i'm sure i could've sub'd 2:08

You can only do that if you have enough reserves (made enough, and strong enough miniturbos) before hitting that turbo pad. It's not that much faster to do it this way by the way. Not sure it's faster at all, the turbo pad on the traditional route is also a super turbo pad :)

As i already said before some turbo pads in this game are super turbo pads BY DEFEAULT (as in programmed in the game to be it without cheats), for instance all the turbo pads on turbo track. I have pm'd you the guide.
In the european version he has the highest top speed like the characters dingodile and tiny tiger while also having the good drift stats from pura and polar. In the american version he's said to be the same as pura and polar :)
Try reading some of the other replies. You can. It has to do with how much you charge it (make the bar full red before boosting) the boosts then overlap and you get reserves. Certain turbo pads are super turbo pads which gives extra speed and i decide to use my reserves on those. I can try finding the advanced guide again and pm it to you if you're interested. (I should really just add it to the description already lol...)
On PAL version, the only cheat that works (Time Trial) is Ice cheat. But try to use ice cheat here and you will see the dificult to get less than 2:30:00.

The game has a few PRESET super turbo pads. When you miniturbo with full charged (BAR FULL RED) all the time the miniturbos OVERLAP meaning you get RESERVES when you save those RESERVES for a PRESET super turbo pad then you can get a higher speed level for a longer period of time as long as you don't crash, brake, or do another miniturbo type.

Not gonna respond to you in italian. From what i could get out of your text through a translator you claim i use an infinite turbo cheat? afaik it doesn't even exist and furthermore no cheats except for turbo counter and mentioned penta would work in time trial anyway. The other characters don't take anymore skill however and there's nothing "wrong" with using penta in this mode. Some tracks even favour the other characters you mentioned.

@R3musITA TI sbagli non usa il turbo infinito infatti al 3 giro ce la fa diculo... gli stava per finire all'entrata del tunnel con il turbo e ai salti iniziali ...e poi bhe se tutti su youtube usano penta x il tempo in questa mappa non vedo perchè lui non dovrebbe e comunque ci avrebbe perso 1 secondo a giro massimo...

Ah i just realised you didn't mean emulator emulate hehe.
But yeah dingo canyon is one of the harder tracks. I can tell you cutting the sand on the first turn actually is slightly faster.
If you google for ctr4ever you'll also find a site with some good active players who can probably help you and maybe show you a video :)

I'm trying to emulate your exact pattern and I'm hopeless. My best time is .50 seconds for a lap. How do you get ahead of Oxide so early on? I'm not even on the barrels until about .28 seconds. How do you do it?!

1) Is it the american version you are trying to TAS? Penta penguin is slower in the american version of the game.
2) When you hit a super turbo pad you cannot do another turbo as it will slow you down
3) Make sure to not make boosts fast, it's better to delay them as long as possible and fill up the red gauge completely (so if you're going frame by frame you should fill it up completely every time)

Crash is a slower character so obviously the time would be worse. Don't know by how much though, but it probably wouldn't be a dramatical difference.

pure skill. 5 stars and favourited. My best is only 2:26 on n gin labs but having said that I did use the main green speed pad in the middle of the track at the end of the lap, and not that super fast one on the right.

I don't think there is such a cheat. Either way i didn't use it. It's just that when you do a new miniturbo overlapping the previous one, the boost from the previous one isn't lost and you can keep boost without turboing for a longer period of time. Actually there is even a glitch that if you do it enough you will end up with infinite top speed, but without the turbo effects (not that they matter you keep the top speed), and if you miniturbo much after that it will reset to zero hehe.

You see the turbo pad that i don't boost after? It drains your reserves of boost pretty quickly, but it also has a higher top speed than normally. it's one of the few defeault "super turbo pads" that there is a cheat to get (that cheat doesn't work in time trial in the european and australian version though).
So yeah after passing those try not to get any new boost, brake, or crash since any of those things will send you down to normal speed and still drain your reserves a bit. ;)

Hey. I'm not quite sure what you mean. Just jump after a miniturbo? You should only do that to drift for another miniturbo or skipping a gap. The reason i do it at 0:08 specifically is because i'm using a slightly random trick that makes the game send me lower and further over the gap from the turbo pad. At 0:39 i'm approaching a super turbo pad which gives me a higher top speed than normally which is why i try not to use any other turbos for as long as possible after hitting it.

Oh and i have the highest speed possible at all times in this run. Except maybe for a split second i didn't at 1:43, but i didn't lose much time on it. The actual max speed in the game i only have between the 3rd and 4th turbo pad (4th is the tunnel) and the last and the first on all laps.

If it only works for those few seconds then it's either because you jump, because you don't boost enough before it, or before the miniturbos you make aren't charged properly (the more red before releasing the better)

Some turbo pads give extra high speed as long as you haven't used all the boost you've saved up before hitting them and as long as you don't use any other type of boost, brake, or crash. :)

Oxide doesn't go into any secret room and i absolutely waste him here. 2:05 is not possible without the super turbo pad cheat which only works in NTSC so if you have 2:05 then you performed it that way. Unless you, like many people, talk about relic race where much better can be done.

Oh and i forgot to mention "green boosts" help absolutely nothing after you reach top speed once except for possibly giving you a few reserves so you can stay at top speed for longer without miniturboing. Look at the turbo meter it does not go down. *will continue*.

Of course this is once again assuming you don't use super turbo pads because those have indeed got bigger boosts. 2 turbo pads on this level are naturally super turbo pads (the last one and the one i decide to hit instead of the last one) which is why i don't do minturbos after them because i want to keep the new speedlevel and i will lose it once i do a different kind of turbo

A full charged boost lasts so long that you can do another one before it stops and what wasn't used goes into "reserves". Then some turbo pads give higher speedboost than normal (such as the one used in this vid) and if you save your reserves for them the reserves' will have the same level as the special turbo pad. It will go back to normal if you do ANY other kind of boost after hitting it however.

Penta is generally accepted in the community as he in no way makes the game easier and can be accessed by anyone without any hacking device.
There is a problem with his stats being better in europe than in america though, but rest assured the only cheat i use in this game is a code that unlocks an extra character in the game. The only other cheat that works in time trials (in the european version) anyway is the one that counts miniturbos which is useless.

Also, When I use either one. I get enough speed to jump over the hole thing, but after that, I just lose all my speed and I can't get to the finish line at the same speed.

Do you jump off of them and get a miniturbo? You mustn't jump or miniturbo as it'll replace your super turbo boost. If you do know this already then the reason is simply that you don't have enough "reserves" to keep the turbo speed for as long and you need to practice doing more and better miniturbos around the track :)

And no, I don't miniturbo after I've hit the ground, I just steer and let the turbo boost take me through. but I lose speed quite fast, rarely getting to the finish line.
I'll try doing what you said, just generally getting faster around the rest of the track and reply then.

You mean jump down and hit the turbo pad? Well there's no real secret to it other than jump right before you drop just like i do over the gap right after. If you are having trouble with it though, then you can just use the normal turbo pad (and DON'T JUMP - turbo boost landing makes you slow because it's a super turbo pad) is pretty much just as fast.
As for keeping super turbo speed from one of those 2 pads you need to have alot of reserves by making long miniturbos before it and none after

there are glitches in this track...
i dont know how the hell that happen...
when i was racing in 2p mode.... when i reach the final lap and get past to my brother which is 2p...
and i get in 1st place.....
then when i will go in the lap for entering the final lap, it is still the same and i saw my count turns to 6th place..... damn! i am in first position but you will see that the first one is the last one to finish!!!

Oxide is only available through gameshark as far as i know. It's a cheating/hacking device.
You say you did use turbo pads? Do you have the american version of the game (i noticed you're from croatia) because it doesn't work in time trials in the european version... Likewise penta is the same as polar and pura in the american, and only perfect stats in the european.

I agree other characters are more fun (and fair) in multiplayer, but when i'm time trialing i'm gonna go for the fastest character possible. It doesn't really make it any less challenging, it just makes the standards higher =P

That character is commonly allowed in the competitive time trial envoirment. He does not make the game easier in any way. If anything he makes it harder because you race faster.
I would not choose those 2 slow characters instead if i couldn't use penta i'd use a top speed character and maybe lose a second or two because i lost a little in drift. Could probably make a sub 2:09 strat with them as well, but i wouldn't bother when this character is just better for the map.

Penta penguin has full speed stat like the fastest characters (tropy, tiny, dingo, papu) as well as the perfect turning like pura and polar. I think his acceleration is perfect as well. In NTSC he's exact copies of polar and pura i think so there is indeed a difference.
This doesn't mean he's infinitely better than the other fast characters though because you can MT more straight with a low drift making him worse on for instance crash cove :)

yeah i screwed up on the final lap already during the ultra ghost part (i think it's what you call ultra ghost... The 2 ramps before the USF pad) and then also lost USF. As i said in the description i'm sure i could've sub'd 2:08

You can only do that if you have enough reserves (made enough, and strong enough miniturbos) before hitting that turbo pad. It's not that much faster to do it this way by the way. Not sure it's faster at all, the turbo pad on the traditional route is also a super turbo pad :)

As i already said before some turbo pads in this game are super turbo pads BY DEFEAULT (as in programmed in the game to be it without cheats), for instance all the turbo pads on turbo track. I have pm'd you the guide.

In the european version he has the highest top speed like the characters dingodile and tiny tiger while also having the good drift stats from pura and polar. In the american version he's said to be the same as pura and polar :)

Try reading some of the other replies. You can. It has to do with how much you charge it (make the bar full red before boosting) the boosts then overlap and you get reserves. Certain turbo pads are super turbo pads which gives extra speed and i decide to use my reserves on those. I can try finding the advanced guide again and pm it to you if you're interested. (I should really just add it to the description already lol...)

On PAL version, the only cheat that works (Time Trial) is Ice cheat. But try to use ice cheat here and you will see the dificult to get less than 2:30:00.

If you read the replies to the comment a few posts below you would already know.
The game has a few PRESET super turbo pads. When you miniturbo with full charged (BAR FULL RED) all the time the miniturbos OVERLAP meaning you get RESERVES when you save those RESERVES for a PRESET super turbo pad then you can get a higher speed level for a longer period of time as long as you don't crash, brake, or do another miniturbo type.
Now stop coming to early conclusions.
