wow, donovan's goal. maybe the greatest single strike of the ball i've ever seen. by far greater than any free kick because it's a volley off a low, hard clearing attempt. then it's off his less dominant left foot, then it's a sick, sick curl, whereas putting a volley straight on net is difficult enough. and the aim is pure - right in the side netting.

Football in America is not poor, its just not as experienced as it is in other leagues such as the premier league. It is true that the MLS cannot match the leagues in Europe, but with time it will get better. This is what Beckham wants, he wants the MLS to match European leagues. Donovan's goal wasn't deflected. It went just over the guy's head and continued to curve, and the spin on the ball stayed consistent. And it's got to be the MLS goal of the year so far, no question. That is extremely difficult, curling a left-footed volley to the far post from that angle (especially since it came at an unexpected angle and he didn't get the chance to run up to it). But it also looked really nice, and its a unique goal.
