@DruTerbrack24 Chill out bud.. I still love the movie. It's just my inner-American coming out of me, I wanted him to become a famous musician and go live happily ever after with the beautiful French girl he was so infatuated with. These european filmmakers tend to end their films on such depressing notes..
Well, I can't believe you didn't see now who but «what» plays the last note... Of course it's neither the right or left hand... It's really to easy to explain, so i won't. LISTEN
I still don't know why he had to die... talking about endless city stuff, how about work for a hotel play piano. It's not like piano will ever have endless keys...
@realnegativezero i agree, i was like noooooo get off the boat you fool!
then i realised the film couldnt end any other way... him meeting up with the girl wouldnt have had the same impact.... the whole movie is about him living on a boat, if he had just upped and changed it.... wouldnt have made sense....
i do love his clean pristine opera suit, and how the boat groans just before it blows up.... its the little details that make these tear jerkers spectacular
The speech beforehand brought me to tears, but this scene always impacted me to the point of sobbing, and I wondered what it was, and then I realized that the last song he ever plays, is the first song he ever played...
It is a tragic but beautiful ending. A stupid Hollywood ending would have had him find the woman of his dreams who inspires him to leave the ship. It would have been very stupid. I like how he stays with the ship to the bitter end and when the bombs come down he is all smiles.
@greg71579 I love the poetry of this film, and using his life on the ship as a metaphor. There is no way he was meant to get off, as he says himself in the speech beforehand. Love it
I've never seen this movies equal. Titanic might have been close, but the music and the acting make this my favorite cinema masterpiece. Reflects alot from my own life.
.....the movie looks really good i dmit id love to see this but the ending........i dont get it....i mean i understand he wanted to stay on the ship but how the director/writer/producer or whoever ended it.....that as terrible it was like he ran out of idea and said "oh we shud just have the ship blow up..yup thats what we'll do"!!!
No, it just seems that he's hitting a a key upper than the previous because it was filmed a little bit from under. But it was the fourth finger that came after the fifth. So no mistake:)
I'm not quite understanding what you mean by this.. I know the fifth finger (pinky) wasn't a mistake but what about the index finger? right around 0:40 when the note goes up but his fingers still descended? The fingering is quite unusual there :o
ANONX WATCH THE MOVIE as the ship grew older and finally out of service he felt he should go with the ship that has taken care of him for long. He was born on the ship and never set foot on land.
ROFL... i havent seen the movie yet but i cant wait... i had that same reaction... thnx groucho for the spoiler... lol this came out in 1998 i cant believe i didnt see it yet WTF tho
There are so many talented people who do the same thing. They hide it behind marriage and children, jobs, opinions of relatives and friends. Instead of sharing their gifts with the world, they fear not being able to cope with new friends, new expectations on them.
@Mangapulse Such a truer statement has never been posted Thank You for saying what I so Adamantly Believed my whole Life. There are those who are courageous, but as you stated some "hide" for fear. I shudder to think of how many we have lost under that guise.
