My Dad just gave me a call from back home in NC. Told me to look this song up. Being stationed across the country from him is hard. Sure miss riding around with him listening to bluegrass.
If I had the chance to see the Grascals, I'd go for two songs, this one and "I Am Strong." They are just incredible. This is a song about friendship, and I Am Strong is a tribute to cancer patients. Thanks for posting this.
Living out on the West Coast for years, I had forgotten the Grascals, I heard them the other day since I came back to Kentucky and I realize how much I like them. Awesome song and awesome band.
You should write a hit like this and make millions of dollars and become an award winning bluegrass singer like this dude.

This video and song was nearly enough to make me hate bluegrass, my one love! Beakwithteeth is SO RIGHT!!! There is nothing bluegrass about this at all. This is just a crappy east coast bluegrass band writing a song that unmusical morons will pay money for. That mans voice is just shrilling to my ears. TRUST ME PEOPLE THERE IS WONDERFUL BLUEGRASS MUSIC OUT THERE!! IT IS SOME OF THE BEST MUSIC IN THE WORLD BUT THIS VIDEO IS SO FAR FROM THAT, IT ISNT EVEN FUNNY.
there are many bluegrass groups that make songs like this... that doesn't mean they are crappy... this is more country than bluegrass but it is still in the bluegrass catagory. this group is known for pushing the envelope of bluegrass music as they often record with country legends and play country songs and thats what this is its an amazing song that only a person with a voice like his could sing. it has a great story to it as well. ..
This song brings tears to my eyes sometimes. I heard this song during the summer of 06 and that was the best summer ever. Raven was still here and I bonded with my cousins for one last time <3 This song we listened to all summer

I agree it's too slick and obvious, but these guys do have some good material. Everytime I hear this song I wonder why some hat act hasn't covered it and had a huge hit. It seems perfect for a huge country radio hit if you cheesed it out even a bit more.
This is a great band with fantastic songs and musicians. I have seen them twice and they put on a great show! Their 2 CDs are excellent, and hopefully they will be making this kind of great music for years to come.
I found this site from an advertisement on the Big Lick Festival Park, in Big Lick North Carolina where the Grascals will be playing on June 9th 2007. I had never heard them before. I love the video and the song. The lyrics and the video are a masterpiece combination.
Jamie Johnsons fathers name is Paul.Dolly treated the band like they were part of her family.Shes an awesome lady.Jamie is also part of my (real) family, and we are all very proud of their accomplishments.
paul is the blonde shaggy hair dude johnny is the dude in the red sweat shirt and "ME" is the lead singer :)....actually i hav no clue i just listened 2 da words :)
Dolly Shmolly, A song like this doesn't need big time a star to get it off of the ground. It stands on it's own. The musicians stand on their own too. If you don't cry at this song, you don't have a heart in your chest. It's number one in my book.
I remember hearing this song for the first time. I was in the front row at a bluegrass festival and they sang it and I cried like a baby. A couple months later I had a couple minutes to spare before I got on the school bus that morning and turned it on GAC. Not only did I cry like a baby then too, but I was a half a second away from missing the bus that morning! Between their harmony and the lyrics to this song..shew, it's a masterpiece. I absolutly love it. Thanks for putting it up!
ya it must be cool to say, "ya, dolly has our cd" or "ya, dolly wanted us to open for her"...can you imagine having dolly's vote of confidence. what a cool thing...she is so respected in country music and bluegrass circles.
My feeling is that if dolly hadn't taken them under her wing, it would have taken them longer to hit the big time. They must be grateful for the superior guidance and support Dolly was able to provide them with. I know that if I was a semi famous singer, I would chew off my left arm for the opportunity to be advised by the biggest legend the entertainment industry has ever seen!!!!!
