I have a toy like that, get a little catnip and drop it inside the middle area. (the red ball)

They really dig into it and try to remove the ball. It is by far the best thing ever.

Be sure to record it lol! Oh and I loved the 45 minutes later part.

I brought my cats expensive toys, didn't want them. Played with the catnip toys for a few minutes, but the best ever toy for my cats is always a piece of paper rolled up into a ball, play with it all day Crazy cats I love em.

Cheap and highly effective if you have a hard floor (wood/tile/etc) is ping pong balls. they are quite reactive to being struck and bounce well on hard surfaces. No so well on carpet.

There was another version of this toy without a top, and a place for scratching in the middle. You know what happens when kitties pull the ball out of the track? They lose it somewhere, then later wonder why theres no ball...
