Oh my god, this is the most beautiful song I've heard in a very long time. It's so hauntingly perfect. For me, the first thing I thought upon hearing it was that it was about physical abuse, either from parents/family or maybe an abusive lover/spouse and the taste of blood is the memory of being hit in the mouth. I'm too familiar with the taste, myself, for that very reason. *sad smile* That said, it could be about a lot of things, I guess. I think each person brings their own meaning to it.
It's about losing the taste of the one that you love. It's the process of leaving it all behind and going another direction and meeting someone else along the way before it is finished. Guilt, sadness and all that encompasses the taste of blood in your mouth of the residue of love and not being able to be the person you wanted to be in a relationship, as well as the other person not being what you had envisioned them to be. It's a sad dream that sobers the drunken with the reality of love.
I never thought about rape , but why not.. ? On my mind i take it as a very sad love song (cos of my personnal experience...)
