I learned how to play this song by ear and that was hard. Made me wonder how someone could write a song like this but then I realized, David Gilmour is a God!
People, comparing guitarists makes you look stupid. The only time comparing is legit, is if one guitarist took over the catalogue from another, and played it the same way (for example Slash vs Buckethead, all the guitarists attributed to Ozzy, etc) . It also comes down to personal preference. Every guitarist is different. They all have attributes, techniques, equipment and so fourth that make them individuals.
That said, David Gilmour is by long and far my favourite.
The only two strat players who are better than Gilmour are Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan. Gilmour is just such a master of single notes. He always picks the right note and knows exactly what to do with it.
@WeeArnSon Not in a million years my friend. Hendrix was one of a kind I agree but he couldnt begin to write music the way Gilmour does. This is proof if ever it was needed that Gilmour is by far the best Guitar player the world has ever known.
Look at the intensity on Sir Gilmour's face as he plays this song so well. The best musicians in the world in backup, Pino Palladino and Phil Manzanera. But it wouldn't matter, because this song is about his playing and NOBODY could cover this song. He won a Grammy for it! Has he perforned this in public at any other time or is this the only time?
I always wonder why david gilmour is never mentioned in top ten guitarist countdowns. He is easily top 5 in my view, every bit as gifted as slash if not more so,but that is only my own humble opinion.
@Garfoo74 LMAO!!!!! They prolly can't figure out what catagory to put him in! He is at least two universesplual planets above the likes of Slash! BWA-HAHAHAHAHAHA!
@technocrash09 Let me try this again----------------LMAO!!!!! They prolly can't figure out what catagory to put him in! He is at least two universes plus several planets above the likes of Slash! BWA-HAHAHAHAHAHA!
@Garfoo74 guitarists like slash really have no style when it comes down to it. those shallow "shredder" bands were really more about fitting the demographic of the times rather than making music to express one's self.. GnR were more of a commercialized attempt to copy something that Led Zeppelin had already beat to death
all the 'talent' in the world, but no class or style.
@djprotone dude these guys r migids they don't know the real music that's y this video has got only 23k .I appreciate that u like pink floyd so much as i do.
Wow.. It's actually chilling how much this guitar reminds me of my Fender Squier Classic Vibe 50's Strat... not because just because it looks almost the same, but the sound is .. pretty similar... Same pickup voicing.
This is such a beautiful, sensible, fragile, deeply moving, emotional piece of art, which takes you to another place and higher Level..... thank you David, the musicians, crew, and Pink Floyd for all the wonderful emotional music they wrote and performed.......
Also thanks to Gilmour HD and Youtube, without them i may never discovered this live performance from the 50th Fender Strat pack anniversary.
I also regret the fact I have only listened so pleasantly to Pink Floyd since 1976... I wish I could have enjoyed them forever. Nothing compares to them. This solo by Mr. Gilmour portraits a generation which is near its end... Unfortunately. Just have high hopes that the legacy lives on forever. Speechless now! PINK FLOYD is part of my live, believe it! Simply awesome!
@Fenderplayer2 A rare instrument indeed not to mention in the posession of a player well worthy of it.all the same id have thought this would have stayed in the makers hands for ever more since it was the first at least with a serial number because i believe there were some built before it without serial numbers on them.but i guess everything really does have its price
@strumfellow ah yeah it was the first with a serial number but there would have been prototypes and whatnot when designing the guitar your right. And i think its fantastic regardless on how rare and collectable this instrument is that it is being played. many collectors would like to see this in a glass case out of harms way but it belongs on stage and sounds pretty damn increadable. :D
@cyrusdm86 your right he is the best for the style he plays but then you could say jimmy page is the best guitarst for his amazing stuido work and then we could say hendrix was the best live guitarist they are all amazing in there own way but gilmour has this style all wrapped up classic stuff
Insanely beautiful!! I had never listened to pink floyd's music before tonight. It's a shame. I have heard so much music in my life but this is just on another level. Moves me so deep. I regret I can never witness something like this live. :(
On a sidenote: How can this have only 2k views and 7 reactions, it's pure brilliance. Going out tomorrow to buy cd and dvd.
Thanks for uploading GilmourTrueHd! And if you can recommand me more music in this style please do so..
Most of Pink Floyd's music is in this style. The Blue, On an Island, Castellorizon are very reminiscent of this particular style. In my opinion the Pulse dvd set would be the perfect choice for someone new to Pink Floyd. Live in Gdansk also a great choice. Look around on this channel, the description tells you which album the songs are from.
@GilmourTrueHD i never thought i'd see a Floyd recommendation that didn't have any of Roger's input. Don't get me wrong, PULSE and Live in Gdansk are great but to exclude DSotM, The Wall, WYWH seems a bit suspicious. djprotone, go out and buy their first 6 albums starting with Meddle. you are in for a treat.
@netskot I would like like to know exactly what you mean by "suspicious".
The person was not asking for the complete PF discography, just a recommendation. Pulse has the complete DSotM on it, as well as the Division Bell and many songs from their other albums. The band themselves has called it a definitive PF work. That's why I recommended it...
@GilmourTrueHD I just don't consider Division Bell to be true Pink Floyd, and half of Pulse was that. I don't know, your comment just discredited RW a bit but I'm sure it wasn't intentional, my apologies.
@netskot Buying the first six albums would mean not buying Dark Side, WYWH, Animals, or the Wall. Just my opinion, but the very first albums, being as experimental as they are, might not be as "accessible" to someone new to the music. I agree with the Pulse recommendation. It includes a fair amount of Roger's work. It's a good introduction to the band's work.
@floydian10 Notice I said buy the first 6 albums starting with Meddle. I think they've found their sound with Meddle; and I don't think you can condence their discography to a "best of..", you know?
@netskot Ok, I misunderstood. Was thinking Saucerful of Secrets might not be the best one for pulling in a new listener :) And I do agree about not condensing their work to "best of" albums. I cringed when that Echoes compilation came out. I hold live albums to a different standard, though. I do think they preserved their sound with Pulse. It contains Dark Side in its entirety. Since Waters doesn't sing much on Dark Side, his absence isn't as noticeable.
@GilmourTrueHD If you like this you would like The Division Bell album. One of my favorites despite Roger Waters. WHen i first heard Floyd when i was just a little lad i loved it, im glad my pop showed me Floyd and now i am addicted , i listen to PF every day and probably will the rest of my life.
@djprotone this is not as memorable as other Pink Floyd concerts, thats why this doesnt get lots of views. Try searching the PULSE videos and you will see millions of views.
@djprotone I also regret the fact I have only listened so pleasantly to Pink Floyd since 1976... I wish I could have enjoyed them forever. Nothing compares to them. You'll like Shine On and Sorrow if you enjoyed Marooned.
I would recommend Pulse because it includes Dark Side of the Moon and Division Bell in one concert. The lover performance from Earls Court, London England is by far the very best show they have ever put on.
@djprotone i would highly recommend, time from the darkside of the moon album, shine on you crazy diamond from wish you were here album.. no infact the entire wish you were here album, and listen to the live PULSE concert version of comfortably numb, the solo is fucking epic! then my friend u will definatly be hooked on floyd!
