  • LIKE IF YOU'RE STILL LISTENING TO THIS IN 2012!!

  • I remember finding this song a really long time ago. I forgot the name of it and who sang it, but I always thought about it. I finally found it again! FUCK YES.

  • You've got the lyrics wrong, hun. And you missed a sentence. Just saying nothing bad.

  • No dislikes :)

  • @meganerdXD One dislike :(

  • @meganerdXD two dislikes :'(

  • Is that Jen from the office lol

  • i love love love this song <3

  • look in the description

  • very grand

  • nice nice

  • in the side bar....

  • Hahaha, I LOVE this song.

  • i ♥ this song!

  • sexy lyrics!

  • i love this song =D

im also happy that there's not pages of comments debating whether the song sounds good or not =)

im also glad that people on youtube are very open minded and don't leave essays on videos because they don't like the video that they've just watched and not just move on but instead dwell on it so that everyone else who enjoys the video has to put up with the negative crap.

  • I agree with the dude right below me. MelaniePortrip needs to stop being such an egotistical jerk and just listen to the music

  • CAN WE JUST LISTEN TO THE MUSIC? Jeez, guys...

  • Nevermind I didn't read the whole argument... I think the songs sound similar, other people don't but this isn't the place to hold these conversations because you'll never meet that person nor change their lifetime in any real manner so...

  • And no kidding, that's why the "conversation" you're replying is a month old... It isn't a matter of opinion to argue, this can be proven, and you're just flat out wrong to "think" the songs sound similar. All I'll do is explain why you're wrong, you can keep arguing your wrong point, but all I'll do is counter it with facts. The wrong people are the ones who turn it into an argument, is my point.

PS, these songs don't have the same key either.

  • You can't be RIGHT or WRONG about an opinion an opinion=a persons thoughts on something So yes I understand that you think your opinion is correct And thats very nice for you but no one is right or wrong in saying that a song sounds like another because its YOUR opinion that it does or doesnt

Ps songs don't need the same key to have the same melody it doesn't matter what key its in there are magical symbols called FLATS SHARPS AND NATURALS a key is used to make the music easier for the musician

  • But again, it isn't a matter of opinion. There are musical characteristics that would make these songs sound a like and they don't have them.

  • this is false

  • those guys rock.. seriously

  • yea they do i love them they acctually make songs with true meaning lol!

  • yeah they're not like 'hey my girl likes me 'cos I buy her jewels and clothes, I live in Beverly Hills and I have a white cadillac..' these guys make MUSIC.

  • I've never heard it put better!

  • You're missing two lines after the 2nd verse, right after "Who wants to live in this place?" they say "Not me" or something.

    :)

  • i love this song. i hadn't listened to it in FOREVER.

    looove the hush sound!

  • my goodness i love this song almost as much as i love wine red! (:

  • BTW panic no longer has the "!" in it

  • These guys remind me vaguely of Ben Folds... though much more listenable.

  • lol

  • breath of fresh air

  • i know im gonna get flamed for this but... is it just me or does this sound alot like panic at the disco's Pretty Odd??

    :)

    i love this song

  • dont worry i was thinking the same thing

  • as was i ... haha.

  • Well this came out first so Pretty. Odd. sounds like this, not the other way around.

  • i think cuz they worked with each other they influenced each other, but pretty odd have a more folky classic rock, while this has a more showtunes thingy, but there is an obvious influence

  • this is my favorite of the songs sung by the guy i think.

  • This is a good cover of "Mr. Blue Sky." Oh wait...

  • haha, you're so very correct!

  • haha yeah you are totally right

  • Gun to my head, "Mr. Blue Sky" is my favorite song ever. I'm always the first to notice parallels to Mr. Blue Sky, like how Panic's 9 in the Afternoon kind of sounds like it, but this song however sounds NOTHING like Mr. Blue Sky. I have no clue what similarity you're hearing... except for maybe the beat, but of course, it's a friggin' BEAT!

  • The staccato piano rhythm, heavy bass, and the drums dropping out on part of the chorus is the similarity I'm hearing.

  • Staccato? Could you choose a more vague description? Millions of songs have staccato rhythms; do they all sound alike too?

Heavy bass? Is that a joke? To call that "comparative description" vague would be and understatement.

And the drum beat in chorus of Blue Sky completely drops then changes to a steady two-beat one-beat alternate rhythm, whereas the one in this song slows for 4 beats then continues exactly the same as before, then changes to slowed 4-beat rhythm...

  • ...in other words, the songs sound and are VERY different from one another.

The piano rhythm in this song has a much quicker tempo than the one in Mr. Blue Sky... and if I remember correctly, Mr. Blue Sky's most pronounced melodious beat is being kept by string instruments (likely cellos).

Perhaps it's been a while since you've heard Mr. Blue Sky...

  • It's a song. Calm down. They both use similar, staccato 4/4 piano chords, have similar melodies, and both are driven by piano and bass. The combination clearly makes it sound in the style of ELO.

Saying it's not is like saying Muse and Coldplay didn't tap into the vein of Radiohead or that Oasis didn't emulate The Beatles.

You can point out as many things as you like about how this song and Mr. Blue Sky are different, but the song still remains a knockoff of Mr. Blue Sky.

  • It's a song? Really? I thought it was a book... And "it"? Don't you mean 'they're,' as it's 2 songs being compared here? And calm down? I could tell you to do the same thing, you know? I don't see how I'm being any less calm than you...

Anywho, you've just repeated your vague and inaccurate descriptions. And, lol, do you actually know what a chord is? The chords in the 2 songs are not the same, hun, and that one is a fact, not an opinion to be argued.

The songs just sound nothing alike.

  • "You can point out as many things as you like about how this song... but the song still remains a knockoff of Mr. Blue Sky."

Translation = 'You can point out how wrong I am all you want, but I will keep making my invalid claim anyway.'

    Nice, child.

You use musical terms like you don't know what the heck they really mean... Like 4/4? That would be the time sig., hun. A chord can't be described as 4/4.

The melodies are of different chords so how could the melodies sound alike?

  • thats called a key... you can play the same note pattern "Whole step-Whole step-Half step-Whole step" will have the same melody no matter which key you start on... so yes Melodies CAN sound alike regardless of key... if you don't like the song nobody wants to hear it, take your bad attitude elsewhere please

  • You obviously don't understand what the characteristics of a melody are... Songs in diferent keys can't have the same melody. To simplify things for you, a melody is what you'd walk away humming after listening to any given song. The melody you'd hum after hearing this is not the same melody you'd hum after hearing Mr. Blue Sky. And perhaps you should learn to read things fully before commenting because, as I see you've realized in your second comment, I never claimed I didn't like this song.

  • yes I didn't read very clearly neither did u In my second comment I pointed out "Nevermind I didn't read the whole argument"

As for the melody do you have any actual music experience.. (IE choir band musicals etc.) because a melody is a melody it doesn't matter what key it is in. A major scale sounds the SAME no matter what note you start playing it on... so I could sing this song in whatever its in now and then sing it again with the exact same melody with every key lowered a half step

  • No, I, unlike you, did read things clearly, and mentioned your second recovery post in my first: "...because, as I see you've realized in your second comment, I never claimed I didn't like this song."

And yes, I have extensive musical training, that's how I know these things. Choir, band, and musical are not reliable places to learn music theory, which is what I'm specifically trained in, hun. That fact that you gave those as examples leads me to believe that, band, choir, and musicals...

  • ... is one of your inexpert sources of musical knowledge. A melody is an indication of SPEFICIC notes. The melody references a specific tune of sound, not some similar pattern...

  • I'm taking 2 different exams for music theory.. Choir and Band... MUSIC THEORY IS A MAJOR PART OF THOSE CLASSES. So if write a song with a note pattern of stepping up whole whole half whole. And then play that same note pattern exactly the same just a half step down it isn't the same melody

If I sing twinkle twinkle little star in the key of G and then again in the key of C THEY HAVE THE SAME MELODY. Melody isn't about notes its about NOTE PATTERNS

  • (the first paragraph was sarcastic...)

here is a musical definition of the word melody I am done with this arguement A tune; a succession of tones comprised of mode, rhythm, and pitches so arranged as to achieve musical shape, being perceived as a unity by the mind. In a piece of music where there is more than one voice, or where harmony is present, the melody is the dominant tune of the composition.

  • Lol, you are so very uninformed and confused, "whole whole half whole whole whole half" and patterns like this reference the minor or major scale pattern, not the key-signature, genius.

  • hey guys! i took a music theory class for a year too, does that mean i can join in on this internet argument?

  • Sure! Remember to wear your sweatpants!

  • I don't know which or whose paragraph you're indicating, but if you switch keys of the same song, the MELODY CHANGES. Gosh, I hope you're not paying for whatever makeshift music classes you're in because if you are, you should demand your money back... or, more likely, your parents' money back.

  • hey man..as long as the song feels right and sounds right....it's a song. no one honestly gives a damn about your definitions here....it's a song and it's sung beautifully....get over it.

  • it does sound alike, im not trying to start a big argument, im not a musician, but really, sound a little alike, to me. they are both great songs :)

  • Well I think you're wrong... but of course you knew that...

  • man the world needs more of your attitude.

    not.

  • Man, the world needs more of your pointless sarcasm.

  • THIS SONG IS AMAZING! GO HUSH SOUND!

  • I love this song

  • 0_0 The guy on the left looks like a kid in my school! That's funny.

    I love this song!
