  • I'm beginning to think that the only difference between pre- and post- Pumpkins is that Billy is now forever trapped in drop Db.

  • Man I was hoping this would appear on Oceania.

  • what moron said there new stuff is indy lmao this dose not soud nuithing like the artic monkeys or the kooks new indy is shit dont even put the pumkins in the same catogry it a insult to music

  • check out as rome burns by primordial i think that it is much better(epic) not that i say i do not like this but just check it out and you will see.

  • @ASLAR91 Well, I like Primordial but their song don't even come close to this Melon Collie ? Machina ear-buster.

  • his new songs are annoying, his new voice is annoying, his new image is annoying....its all just annoying

    RIP SP

  • Reminds me of a Smashing Pumpkins song...

  • epic song,period.

  • EPIC DUAL SOLO!

  • @ecosiszman hell yah man, and apparantly oceania(song not album) is gonna have another dual solo FUCK YES, though i dont think it'll be as hard and heavy as this one was

  • BC after a heavy caffein treatment :) WWWWOW..It seems like an awakening...and includes a metal soul too!!! Speedy guitar made me even think to Black Sabbath...

    UP UP UP!!!

  • they should have a studio verson of this song.

  • yes this needs to be a single, it will bring the pumpkins back!!!!!!!

  • This song is good but the live performance at "Terminal 5" is better imo. They should go by that one. The faster pace of it really fills in the song more.

  • Studio version!...NOW!

  • Melancholy And The Infinite Sadness is back and all the doubters will eat their words.

  • I could see this being their biggest hit in years once they release it.

  • @nicholsjoshua15 this is not grunge

  • Damn! I'm still waiting for this one to be realeased on Teargarden!

  • I smiled when I heard this. I thought Smashing pumpkins were losing it. Sounds like the old pumpkins. love it

  • OH MY GOD THIS MAKES MY HEART DROP! CLASSIC PUMPKINS WELCOME BACK!

  • If this gets a studio recording, I hope they keep the guitar wanking at 2:30.

  • how in the hell can anyone say that this is not good music??!

  • Comment removed

  • yeah it sounds like work that would have been on MCIS, love it!

  • i can not wait till the studio version comes out!

  • BRUTAL

  • you cant do songs like that without jimmy on drums...pumpkins are dead, now even more then ever.

  • this is a gem. what a fucking kickass song.

  • I cant believe you fuckers bitch over something that's FREE.

  • @kanookle amen to that!

  • The new shit fucking sucks after this, get over it.

  • @Watch4 The New stuff has melody and beautiful piano and violin sounds, exactly like Mellon Collie and Siamese Dream, this? Not so much.

  • Considering how they are a rock band, piano and violin isn't a necessity. MCIS and Siamese Dream weren't good because of those things, they were good because they actually left their mark in time with extremely original and variety-filled music. The new stuff is just some predictable indie sounding acoustic only bullshit that has tendancies to sound atmospheric, something crappy bands like Coldplay do. The new stuff doesn't compare to MCIS or Siamese Dream at all, they're worlds apart.

  • hahaha preaching about how the new stuff doesn't compare and how it's "preditcable indie stuff" then you turn around and use their two most commercially successful albums as your gage is quite amusing. I can't help but wonder if you even know they have a kickass album called Gish that came out well before Siamese Dream. Also how would you label Adore? Pretentious, predictable indie stuff or just good music? It's all good including the new stuff. Get over it .

  • @Hallucination There's new age hippie indie bullshit, and there's old age, which was Gish and Siamese Dream and the sort. That's when it was actually good, original, undone, etc. Don't speak to me like I'm not a fan of theirs ignorant of their ways, I practically have every fucking soundwave they've recorded. Newsflash, it's fucking opinion, and I can't believe you're as abnoxious and dipshitted to tell me to get over something because your opinion doesn't sync with mine. GET OVER THAT.

  • @Hallucination Oh...you seem to like U2. Just get the fuck out, you fucking fail.

  • @Hallucination @Watch4 also

What about Arieoplene Flys High (box set) and Pisces Icarus ? and the Five different soundtracks the Pumpkins appear on . Do either of you even know / care !

  • @Hallucination Well put

  • @Hallucination don't forget to mention Machine, in my opinion an highly underrated album, so good!

  • @nicholsjoshua15 ...why respond twice?

  • Comment removed

  • @nicholsjoshua15 You speak as if Machina was exponentially greater than SP's two best albums. Opinions aside, I think if you can't see what's wrong in that, then there's no point in explaining.

  • @Watch4 2 best albums? in your opinion you mean? no such thing as best, i thought PI had some of the best tracks being B sides but other people think it sucked. some people like melon collie but others say it sucked cos it only had 1 good cd out of the 2. It's all down to taste. i used to think machina was shite until i realized it had a good handful of tunes on it that rocked like hell, at least to me. we all have our faves :D

  • @nicholsjoshua15 lol cool story bro

  • This sounds like Mellon collie too. X.W.U,,

  • @Watch4 agreed

  • @Draxzar What?... 44 tracks my friend... skip the heavy stuff if you don't like it... The Smashing Pumpkins have always been a very dynamic band, why would you want to listen to endless tracks of just one of these dynamics?... p.s That's a rhetorical question.

  • @Draxzar he actually said it was gonna be a mix

  • @Draxzar he said it was gonna be heavy aswell

  • @Draxzar DUDE! THIS IS BEAUTIFUL MUSIC!

  • I was at this show too. This song is awesome and like others have said it BETTER be on Teargarden. This is classic! A Song For Son was alright but the other new one is horrible.

  • I REALLY hope that this song ends up on "Teargarden by Kaleidyscope". The two songs that have already been released for that album are interesting and bright, but I hope that Billy doesn't forget about his darker and more aggressive music a.k.a. "Backwards Clock Society". ;-)

  • is this going to be on teargarden?

  • And might i add....this totally sounds like classic smashing pumpkins.

  • Just remember, whether he's making music you like or music you hate....the guy is 42 years old and writing songs for a living. I hope i can say the same when i'm his age.

  • billy has written a lot of good songs in the last 2 years, i'm really optimistic about Teargarden..

  • Watch4, do you like 'As Rome Burns'?

  • It's fine I guess. I don't like the vocals too much.

  • @Watch4 I can't see what you dislike about the vocals, this is classic Billy

  • @779flipingsweet *watches a clip from 1993, then from 1996* Oh..wh-what? Classic Billy?...that's a pretty cool story, bro.

  • @Watch4 you need to go back further, more like 1988

  • @skylar44 Yeah, before Gish came out, that makes sense.

  • @Watch4 watch?v=O--BSG85mmM&feature=related

    it clearly does make sense

  • isnt mcr liek indie n e wayz?

  • lol butthurt by acoustic music?

just cuz i dont lik mcr doesnt mean i dont have a shred of respect them. but this song by them sucks..just my opinion

  • ...what? Fuck the hell off if you're talking to me.

  • This is a bit more "metal" than SP's other songs.

They've always played added a metal influence in they're songs, but this one's solo is probably the most metal-like thing they've done.

I like this song. I hope it's on Teargarden.

  • I dunno, based on what I've heard Teargarden sucks. Bunch of indie crap that's dull, predictable and boring, Billy's capable of so much more, not all this acoustic bullshit he's gonna be releasing.

  • You don't like the acoustic songs?

Well, I guess if you just feel like jumping up and down and listening to a rock song, you wont like the acoustic songs, but I enjoy them.

From the looks of it, SP's new material has a fair amount of both heavy and soft songs. When Teargarden comes out, I think we'll all be pleased.

  • No it's not that I don't like acoustic songs in general, typically I like them when they're by good artists (Nirvana, SP, etc.) but Billy's turned into this scarf wearing peace-promoting vegetarian personal cook owning low carbon footprint indie jerk who's totally lost his way and everyone knows it. It's not Smashing Pumpkins at all. To me it's extremely predictable what he's doing and how his stuff sounds and I just detest it, all of the songs are just so...ugh...Coldplay-esque (who suck).

  • @Watch4

I don't understand your complaints. You don't like that he wears scarfs? It's not like he never wore a scarf in the 90s.

And what's wrong with peace or environmentalism? Billy was never a redneck or a terrorist.

I think that listeners who don't have a deeper understanding of the art of music and just want a badass nihilistic 90s guy image for the band don't realize that that was never what the music was about.

Just cuz you can't accept change doesn't mean Billy "lost his way".

  • Well, don't assume that I want him to be a heavy metal rock and roll polluting hick from Alabama. I was relating scarfs to that entire indie flowery crap indie bands do. Look at one of the new Blackberry commericals, it shows a perfect example. I am saying he's capable of so much more than this predictable atmosphery "change the world with this awesome blehhhh bleh blah". Like Soothe, that's a good acoustic song. Not fucking "Emerald is the Colour"

  • Well, I respect your opinion. Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

I love the new Pumpkin material. I have high hopes for Teargarden.

  • I can understand you're opinion. Personally I like the new stuff I've heard myself. But to each their own.

  • guitar solo is face destroying

  • hoping this gets recorded for teargarden - reminds me of bodies :)

  • @Rapidfire8 Based on a live chat thing that Billy did in July, it sounds like the next two songs will be either a song called 'Quasar' (spelling?) or 'My Love is Sweet' (or something along those lines).

Regardless, i agree! I really hope that As Rome Burns gets recorded!

  • I really hope they releases this on TBK

  • sorry gies, black parade sux

    mcr fans why soo butthurt?

  • @mymorningvodka

I'm one of the few who likes a few MCR songs here and there, and Black Parade had some good songs (House of Wolves, This is How I Disappear), but I honestly will not argue with anyone who hates the band. I can totally see why anyone would hate them. They're not a terrible band, but they've released some real stinkers.

Why are we even talking about MCR here?

  • I swear everything after zeitagest they did sounds like a huge improvement from their last album zeitagest. I found Zeitagest okay. So Smashing Pumpkins!!! YES! Billy, your the man!!! 2:28 OMFG I love that.

  • smooth song. should be in rock band.

  • you may very well be the stupidest person i've ever seen on youtube

  • this man deserves a freaking medal.

    words cannot describe.

  • wut badn iz dis?

  • I'll be very discretely mean about this.

1.) Fuck you, learn English, it's not hard.

2.) It says it in the fucking title, on the fucking picture, in the fucking description. You are a dumbass.

  • you tell him

  • mymorningodka: YOU FUCKING MORON.

  • machina II all over again

sounds like blue skies or whyte spider

  • ....................no it DEFINENTLY doesn't.

  • not even close dude

do you even listen to the pumpkins hahaha?

  • Comment removed

  • if the pumpkins had always been a singles only band i would for sure wouldnt be a megafan

  • When he said singles band, he meant it differently than people took it as. He explained it in his site that he is going to release his songs one at a time, but they are going to eventually be assembled into a collection with one larger picture. The point of this is to improve the quality of every individual song. I think it's an awesome idea, and hope it works as well as he plans it to. Still wish Gossamer had gone somewhere, but no drummer could duplicate that...

  • whos gossamer?

  • Search for "Smashing Pumpkins Gossamer" in the search box. It will come up in 4 parts because it's long. Try and watch it all. It's an AWESOME song,

part-jam and all awesome. Also, if you have the money, buy the If All Goes Wrong DVD from Smashing Pumpkins, has a really high quality version of that song and plenty of other too.

  • @rohiogerv22

yes sir, you just made my night, perhaps, my morning too, well see if i can get a hold of 'if all goes wrong', ive been waiting for awhile to hear about a concert dvd. Awesome!!! and thanks....:DDDDD

  • I'd hate for Billy to give up on albums, whats the point of just listening to one song every coupleof months. Personally I blame society nowadays, downloads have just created a generation of short attention spanned music losers. For all of you out there that still take the time to buy and listen to albums, well done! Hopefully the album wont be dead in a few years!

  • You are correct, I think. Society has pushed artists to take the measures that rappers are, and now Smashin Pumpkins, too. I'm surprised it took this long for a popular band to become a singles only band actually, because RHCP almost went down that road about a year and a half ago.

  • He has released several b sides to every album he has ever created..... What makes you guys think he's just slapping singles out there????? You think he's Pete Rose??

  • Because he said he was only doing singles from now on, that's why, lol.

  • @thecollectfew

ill take a couple of songs every 2 months, the fact theyre making music again at all has been literally somewhat of a miracle to me at times.

  • I think Billy's trying to prove a point. It's really really frustrating to have him get so crabby, but my hope is that he comes back around and realizes that albums are important. You don't keep fans just by releasing tidbits. The obvious compromise is for them to start doing EP's. That'd make me very happy. This, "GLOW" and "Feel Our Love" all need to be together somewhere. You can see the real spark of genius when you hold up multiple songs together; separating them dilutes them.

  • sounds very metal

  • man, this song frickin rocks! incredible live song. saw them in dc. they need to make an album. like you said Watch4, true sp fans like us appreciate all the songs. in a way, Billy is just conforming (which is very unlike him) by not putting out an album. maybe they will at least put out a live album. i need this song on my ipod! haha as well as gossamer

  • the only thing I worry about is Billy stating that they may move on from being an album band. I know that Billy thinks nobody buys his albums, but I do!! The Smashing Pumpkins will NEVER be a singles band for me, but rather an act best experienced through album!

  • Absolutely, it's the only thing I've disagreed about with Billy and all of his new changes, saying that there is no point in making albums because people will just listen to two songs they like and ignore all of the rest. That's stupid, I always listen to all of the songs.

  • it is a massive shame they gonna be a singles only band - i only buy albums and listen to all they're tracks. true pumpkin fans are much the same i'm sure. it's true the majority now only listen to a couple but in pleasing the masses, fans like us feel overlooked. ah well, this is the only time i disagree with corgan

  • When is this song coming out?

  • ....probably never, it's most likely going to be a live and live ONLY song.

  • Ok Thanks a lot. I'm gonna check them. And by the way, I haven't ever thougth of bouying rarities and b-sides :p

  • a couple good b-sides you might enjoy: Set the Ray to Jerry, Soot and Stars, Blue

  • add Pennies Hello Kitty Kat and Home to that list of awesome b-side material

  • I love Pennies. Good song.

  • The song is awesome!

By the way... could someone tell me all the new (never played before because they are new) songs they played in 2008? I mean... all the new songs after Zeitgeist album.

  • Well it depends, they recently just made three new songs, this one being included. But if you want ALL of the songs that are new since Zeitgeist, tell me again. However, if you just want the three new ones, I've posted two. They are called As Rome Burns, Owata, and A Song for a Son.

  • I've seen them. Although, I'd like to know all the songs directly since Zeitgeist. I know those 3 + 'Sonuds Of Silence', 'Superchrist' and "G.L.O.W.". I've noticed also 99floors but I just don't know if it's new... I'm quite fastly getting lost in all those songs!

Though, I am a new fan of SP and I know all the official LPs. Now I'm gonna listen to "rarities and b-sides" and then "aeroplane flies high". Is there any other compilation that I should know?

    Thx for all your help.

  • There's a compalition of Aeroplane and other b-sides called "Judas O" or maybe with a zero at the end, not quite sure. It's like a greatest hits of the b-sides.

  • Do not buy Rarities and B-Sides. It is a complete rip off and the songs are easily downloadable. If you want some of the rarer songs, such as demos and suck, thepumpkins(dot)net has alot of them, so does RSPAA(google it). The songs I can list are "?", "!", "Mama", "Peace and Love"...man my list is short, I'll have to look more into it. I'd say one you might one is either Earphoria, Judas O, and Machina II. There aren't many complitations really, I just really stumbled on all the songs.

  • Other 2008 new songs include: the Rose march, Again again again, pox, sunkissed (all on american gothic c.d)and death from above, no surrender,im doing the best i can, promise me and zeitgeist. If you want some good b sides album there is a 1994 album called pisces iscariot. Hope that helps.

  • some of these were in 2007 but after Zeitgeist.

  • Thanks a lot. I've already got Pisces Iscariot (btw it's something wonderful!). I've got American Gothic too. But can I get a compilation (or something) of these new songs ? Have they been played only live or are they studio-recorded?

  • 2:00 hell ya

  • GLOW fucking BLOWs

    this is good stuff!

  • I disagree, with the G.L.O.W. Part anyway. That song kicks ass, heavy riffs and the lyrics I think, although pretty basic for the Pumpkins, are well written and catchy.

  • this is an awesome quote billy said at the 12/3/08 show (2nd night, white crosses); this may not be exact but it's quite close i know that: "It's been 20 years. Don't give up on us yet. We still got music in us. (long pause and cheering) and the last time I checked, we were NOBODY'S FUCKING BITCH."

    smashing pumpkins forever! t(-.-t)

  • this sounds like it came straight off the sound board. i'll have to check out that website you mentioned in the description. good find here!

  • just heard that he doesn´´t want to play the old songs anymore...well, if the new songs are like this one...i can deal with it ;)

  • No no, he says he is attached to the hits and old songs. He is just sick and tired of every fan not wanting them to move on, they want their memories back and them to be the Smashing Pumpkins to not be anything else than they already were.

  • Yeah, that's the impression I've been getting as well.

To be honest this is an exciting time for the Smashing pumpkins now. They're currently not signed to any record labels, meaning they don't have to answer to anyone right now, just create new music and then worry about how to put it out!

I'm glad Corgan is not content to let the Pumpkins become a nostalgia act. It means we get kickass songs like this one.

  • Yeah, and honestly, they DO still play old songs. But then again, would you really want them to just be the same as they were before? No new content or anything. That's the problem I'm having with one of my old favorite bands Rage Against the Machine. They're good, and they came back...but there isn't a single scrap of new content. Oh well. I just wonder what they're gonna do next, Smashing Pumpkins that is, the tour ended today.

  • Hell yeah pumpkins! <3

  • yay! :)

  • I love it!!!

  • Are you kidding? This sounds like it could have been in mellon collie!

I already was impatient to hear about their next project, but now I can't possibly wait much longer for another sp album.

  • There's also a book, movie, and a little known comic book series, what's your point? It's a popular phrase. So was "Mellon Collie"

  • Primordial have song called As Rome Burns.
