  • I've seen some crappy vids on youtube and this one ranks right up there with the best of the crap. I want the 2 minutes and 41 seconds of my life you just stole back.

  • Seven feet above the logs, one still needs all the milled lumber 2x4, plywood and so forth. So what is the big deal? Why not use all milled lumber and insulated with 10" & 6" batt insulation and covered with plywood, and framed by post and beam with bolts and nuts? I have done it, a 3,000 sq.ft restaurant with 3-br upstairs, around and above an abandoned gas station, mostly ( 90%) by myself ! George Wu, AIA 2012-1-14

  • @georgewu5 For disasterous regions like Haiti and New Orleans, they need semi permanent housing more the tents some still have been living there, I have this idea for them to bolt and nut their own house together, just follow the numbers marked on the 2" x 10", or 6" x 6", tighten the bolts and the nuts together, an unskilled person can build a home for his family. The foot print 10' x 36' can house 2-br full bath, kitchen living-dining with cathedral ceiling. George Wu, AIA 2012-1-14

  • Awesome is all I can say!!

  • sweet.

  • what is the size inside like how many feet by how many feet

  • And then everyone got a disease from drinking the water after some crazy guy got set on fire near a lake and then a bunch of hillbillies showed up from the general store and tried to kill everyone.

    PANCAKES!

  • thanks for the great video me and my friends are going to make our cabin based off yours.

  • why didnt you peel the bark off the logs?

  • @BumJuiceDrinker Why peel the bark off the logs?

  • @Pawnbroker00 If the cabin is gonna be a long term shelter its recommmended you peel of the bark to prevent insect/bugs and stuff of that nature from living and breedin inside.

  • Wow! You have some serious skills.

  • How long to build?

  • approximately how much wood (trees) did you use? Im 15 and i want to build a cabin for myself. nothing special, maybe just a 10x10 like yours, but, being as i have no experience with how much of the tree one uses i cant calculate the height i need. how many trees did you fall to make a cabin this size?

    Thanks, Dick

  • @welovedickblake1 Dont be an idiot boyo, you could never manage it

  • kick as tune

  • Very nice, but I have a question. You left the bark on the logs, have you had any troubles with insect infestation?

  • RIP Mitch Jayne

  • RIP Mitch Jayne - you'll be missed

  • nice cabin great video ..outstanding music......awesome

  • yeah, thanks had a look, good effort son, esp at 16

  • i built a cabin last winter and got in a hurry and put a lean roof on it now i wish i would have done an "A" frame

  • What kind of logs are those? Also, Your sill logs, did you treat them to keep them from rotting?

  • I don't know if anyone told you this, or recommended it, but shouldn't the bark be removed, to ensure it to not rott..?

  • What kind of timber did you use?

  • nice cabin, and a lovely song to go with it

  • LOVE DA SONG !

  • Cool Vid!

  • good cabin but how do you get any light inside :L, or do u just use gas lamps?

  • good little effort. You could have made the foundations skids then you could reposition the cabin if you needed more sun or a better spot. might not be to late to curve them logs. just an idea.

    music suits the site.

Only problem with the Banjo is girls dont flock to Banjo players!!!lol

  • @upussey not any more anyways

  • Cool video , the Dillards are great !

  • Brilliant music, from a truly legendary string band from the 60s, 70s & 80s. This track I know by heart - it's from a vinyl LP I've still got in my collection, called "The Dillards Live..Almost" (recorded direct from a stage-performance in a nightclub in Los Angeles, early or mid 60s). Fantastic live performance, all the way through. Clean, clean pickin, & hi-quality, jokey, rube-type banter from Mitch Jayne all the way thru. A very rare LP these days; the music on this entire LP is awesome.

  • nice video , and the music is just perfect for this

  • Ninja6kid, let us see your cabin and how you did your roof.

  • i have a love hate relationship with bluegrass lol

and no i dont mean i love to hate it

  • nice cabin, i made one...

  • why does everyone build the walls from logs, then the roof out of 2x4s and plywood....that makes no sense.

  • its easier/faster and you need a larger r-vale for the roof which logs cannot provide.

  • what should they build roof out of?

  • more fucking logs what do you think.and look at that ghetto ass plywood door if you're going to do something do it right or dont do it at all.

  • howabout you go eat shit

  • Awesome but music sucks

  • the music is brilliant!!!!

  • ok i guess it doesnt.....sorry for the critisism

  • the perfect trapping cabin

  • i think thats actually a nice prolly single person cabin.

  • dope song

  • i have 400 acres in eureka springs ark, and would love to build nice shack and be self sufficient. the only problem is paying those damn taxes.

  • why not sell like.. oh.. 300 acres..? lol.. 400 acres is useless for 1 person

  • you ever been to the ozarks. not exactly great soil for farming.. besides it has sentimental value. besides, selling 300 acres wouldn't give me much money. no one wants that land because it is too hard to build out there.

  • I really want to make something like this but am worried I won't be able to lift the logs.

    I imagine they're pretty heavy.

  • Always have a friend for safety..And having a big friend works wonders as well.

  • it can be done. use a winch and a tri-pod but it is best to have friends. with 4 guys working togather you can make very short work of it. plan head, have you lot ready, and you logs fell and stacked. and you and your friend can put it up in a day.

  • It would be nice to toss it up in a day, but the problem with real log cabins like this as compared with using dimensional lumber from a mill is that each notch is unique and must be calculated based on the previous log's height. What this means is that you can only notch two logs at a time before finding out the measurements of the next set. This is what makes the building process slow and tedious no matter how many guys you have, unless of course you fudge the notching and except the gaps.

  • that is the way the settlers did it..sure you are going to have gaps, and the logs will dry and settle. one man working each side of the log, each one notching his end, works better than you think. If you read about the settlers and how they did it you will see. Now I am talking about a small cabin say 18x18 or smaller. Check out the book, fox fire...

  • oh yes, I did say have your logs and lot ready...

  • I concur, and I also like small cabins . . . (check my videos). Did you ever see the Seasame Street video on Youtube about building a log cabin ? It's actually quite a well done video and pretty much explains what you've said.

  • the dillars whole world around

  • what is the tittle of the song???

  • I can't stop watching this, haha I love it,

  • how long did it take to build ?

  • Nice!

  • Great job building. Now you can pay taxes on that! HA! Been jamin' the Dillards all day. Great choice in music. Keep up the good work! God Bless!

  • love the music

  • way to go boys did you put any thing under the logs to keep it of the ground? whis I had a cabin just like yours.

  • Nicely done ! Cabin and music both just feel right.

  • Mountain Boys. Like myself. Native American Boys at that.

  • great looking cabin and a great song.

  • nice musical selection, The Dillards played the part of the Darlings on the Andy Griffith Show, classic TV

  • very nice !

  • Awesome cabin!!! The great outdoors is where its at!! This song and video you made I cant stop watching it...(inspirational song!)You have really inspired me and you just dont know how...Thank You....This little gal is making a trip to the woods to start the life!!!

  • Have you ever lived in the woods . It can be kind of hardship. But, i do lov, bing out there.

  • Fantastic video. My son was driving with me tonight and suddenly layed it out that he wanted to build a small log cabin'"Just for us guys". I thought why not. I am enthused. But I do not want one of those "kit" cabins, not for me. Could you recommend some learning resources to learn how to build a cabin such as this?

  • a man dont need nuf footage but to eat and sleep. town need mor folk likin that.

  • Couldnt have said it better myself

  • @HuntinDoorguy hell yeah brother

  • Comment removed

  • well thats because it is rather small in Real Life. Trees dont grow too straight in Oklahoma so I had to make it pretty small. Its only about 10X10

  • my cabin is also a 17th century period cabin, no power tools were used to construct it and it is also a tribute to Dick Proenneke and his life

  • very nice cabin

  • Badass! The world needs more men like yourself. BTW where did you find the Dillards track?

  • Thank you! I bought the "There is a Time: Greatest Hits" CD. I highly reccomend it.

  • how did you rais the logs high enough to put them on the higher parts of the walls

  • Beautiful! Are you living there or planning to? I'm about to build a small cabin on some land I have, but I'm 53 years old. Wish I had done it at your age and escaped this rat race sooner.

  • nice one friend. Looks as if you got the same dream that I have. Myself and a few friends are getting land up here in two years and building cabins and simply living off the land.

  • Makes me think of the cabin my brother is building on our family farm. I can't think of a better way to escape the craziness.

  • Very Cool. Getting in touch with nature and away from modern life; internet(what we're doing now) phone, faxes, etc, is a beautiful idea. Nice to see you doing it your way. And the pickin' & grinnin' is great.

  • wow looks nice, really nice, were is it located? got the glass at the top of the doors, the wood, nice lighting looks sweet, for a nice romantic getaway, very nice!

    good video with good song.

  • Its on Lake Tenkiller near Vian Oklahoma.

    thanks!

  • thats very good project, very good picture. eifach hübsch, beautiful

  • Vielen Dank. Thank you very much!

    Hope I said that right

  • mmm, that's me on the roof.

  • P.S. I've been told swamp moss is the best chinking for longevity and insulation. Did you research? You can use mudding like drywaller's use with some resin. Durability can't be beat.

No matter. Your work is great.

  • Yeah, I researched a lot of different ways to do it but I decided to go with the mud. I really wanted to use some kind of a mortar but that would have stood out too much against the woods and it wouldnt have looked natural. I've never heard of the swamp mass before. Ill have to check that out. thanks!

  • Yeehaw! THAT is something to be proud of your whole life long. What did you chink it with? Is that you pickin' in the doorway? All you need is deer antlers over the doorpost and a rainbarrel. The cabin seems like a small version of the cabin in Foxfire.

There is a special on PBS Sunday night about a guy who chucked city life to live in the Alaskan wilderness. He built everything with his own two hands. Lived there 30 years think and was very happy.

    Good choice for background music.

  • I went old fashion with mud and grass for the chinking. Yes sir, I pick therefore I grin. (O)====**

Your right! I cant wait to start decorating it.

If you are speaking of Richard Proenneke, he is the one that inspired me to do this. Great man! great show too

    Thank you very much!
