  • Where can I get a Guinness in Beirut????

  • 3:57 the one bubble not moving. physics broke?

  • Comment removed

  • i'm gonna feel smart next time i drink guinness :D

  • I could go for a black and blue right now..

  • The head on a Guinness cannot be a solid. Where it has properties of a solid like the molding of it, but it cannot hold it's state for a certain amount of time. It takes the shape of the glass, and cannot keep it's shape. What it might be considered is maybe a Newtonian fluid. Which technically a gas is also a liquid.

  • I could SO go for a Guinness right now

  • Comment removed

  • i cant stand guiness or any dark beers, bluh

  • @zythepsarian and I can't stand any light beers, such a waste of taste

  • @MrScientist90 my 'light' beer is 8%, plenty of flavor thanks...keep all those dark ones for yourself, by all means

  • @zythepsarian

So why even comment? Just shut up and drink up.

  • @DelbyC oh sorry, i didnt know there was no free speech on the internet! ill shut right up now! lol, fuck off

  • @zythepsarian The issue isn't free speech, it's your stupidity.

  • @DelbyC i dont like dark beers, if that offends you, im pretty sure youre a complete moron. have a nice day now

  • отхлебни уже бляха!

  • Guinness has to be 100% better in Ireland then the USA. Nitrogen MUST be used in your kegerator if you tap Guinness.

  • "Put it under a microscope and you'll see that this is a foam."

    You don't say.

  • foam is a micro-structure.

  • He says he's 'tee total' so he doesn't drink alcohol... Anybody have an answer to what that is? Or and English translation of the word? I've heard of not drinking alcohol, just haven't heard that word before...

  • @chopperboi89 teetotal is simply a reduplication of the 'T' in total. Teetotalism refers to either the practice of or the promotion of complete abstinence from alcoholic beverages.

  • SO THIRSTY!!!!!!!

  • its so nice to finally see informative stuff on youtube. Till now it was new developments, video diaries. But never had i seen videos that dealt with concepts, especially with such passionate scholars who make it look so easy without significantly dialing down the science of it. Kudos!

My favorite was his reaction to pV = nRT.

  • Tirty tree and a turd. lol.

  • Just drink it already. It's going warm.

  • The whole time I was thinking "just take a damn drink already!"

  • Holy shit product placement!

  • i want to drink tree pints with him in thirty-tree minutes with tree others there who each ask tree questions regarding that delicious drink

  • Can't wait for the next time when i'm having a pint of Guinnes with my friends.

  • that glass looked sooo beautiful

  • You guys are awesome!

  • THe physics, great. But no drinking COME ON! You should get shitfaced!

  • You guys present everything so well...very engaging. And some of the charm (for an American like me) are your accents. I worry that accents are disappearing now that there is so much exchange of media.

  • shame it doesn't taste nice

  • @TheLordInglip Yes it does!! :O

  • Drinking guinness is not drinking alcohol. So i suggest you try it. XD

  • poor guy who drank that beer... That physicist must have spit in that drink numerous times during that explanation .

  • I want a Guinness now...

  • I want to hear these guys explain it... AFTER 6 pints.

  • @BikerRussell if u listend he doesnt drink...

  • I dislike alcohol...

  • I've never liked Guinness but I think it is probably one of the most aesthetically pleasing alcoholic beverages. I wanted to like it because it looks so good but I just never developed the taste for it. I once tried to create a carbonated drink which looked like Guinness. I called it Guinnless ! It only worked a small percentage of the time. Often it ended up flat.

It's great to see a physicist so passionate about the physics involved in such an everyday thing that so many just take for granted.

  • This was a part question in Cambridge Schol, 1968 - q2. b. explain why beer may be brown but the head may be white.

  • I would love to share the love of the simpler things in life like this guy. Although he seems to a have a thorough understanding of these things.

  • I knew that this guy would be on this video. Lol~

  • I find it really stereotypically annoying to read comments from non-physicists, explaining to everyone why any truly fascinating subject (like the amazingly elegant combination of physics in, say, Guinness), is somehow boring or irrelevant, usually based on their own fundamental lack of understanding. I've learned to stop & smell as many roses as I can. I not only learn something new every time, I get to put another piece of the puzzle together. Thanks, Philip, for yet another reason to enjoy

  • Midnight is coming I would like Guiness so much...

  • You should work for Guiness :D...If it runs as advertisement on TV, everybody will by it..btw:honestly, I have never seen in any clip about beer so much passion and interest :D

  • say that fast 5 times in a row. . . . .@ 7:30

  • hmmmmm Guinness...

  • Best Guinness ad ever.

I am going to go buy Guinness now.

  • 100 divided by 3 is dirty tree and a turd

  • i love how he says bubbles

  • only you guys

  • this guy has either drank to much or smoked too much.. is foam a solid liquid or gas? duh its gas trapped inside liquid spheres, and the surface tension causes them to cling together so you can make shapes in the foam... Honestly the real physics behind all this is not something that would interest anyone, especially in a pub. Bet this guy has no friends left.

  • @ricktbdgc ..and a very Merry Christmas to you too! The point I was making (and others have made before - Google "foam properties") is that foam can behave like a solid, liquid, or gas, depending on your perspective.

You also follow the "duh" in your comment with a demonstrably incorrect statement. A foam comprises liquid *spheres*? Really? Get back to me when you work out just what shapes bubbles take up in a foam. (Hint: watch the video again).

    Until then, happy holidays.

    Philip

  • @Moriarty2112 maybe ill stick to drinkin the beer.. i suppose a more correct term would be chambers instead of spheres. If your the guy in the vids I'm hooked on the sixty symbols series and I hope you guys keep em comin. despite my last post I do enjoy them thx. At the same time the more I try to understand the finer aspects of these physics, the less I find I actually understand.. Its enough to make you nutz. cheers!

  • @Moriarty2112 Cheers Philip, thank you for your great videos. I really like your look on things. and don't bother with the "right" pronounciation of three too much, it really doesn't matter. I guess almost as many people say "tree" as people say "three". and it's certainly better than our german mispronounciation "zree"

  • @HaileISela Hi. Thanks for the very kind words - much appreciated. I spent ~six months in total in Germany during my PhD (at the Physikalische Technische Bundesanstalt in Braunschweig). As is clear from the Sixty Symbols video we did on Schroedinger's theatre a while back, my pronunciation of German words is equally as bad as my English pronunciation!

    Season's greetings - have a great holiday,

    Philip

  • @Moriarty2112 as is my Irish pronounciation. that's just the way it is...

  • now how does physics explain how nasty guinness tastes?

  • Grate now i crave a Guinness more then anything in the world.

  • Gotta love Professor Moriarty's intense enthusiasm for all things science. Can't respect the man enough.

  • turty tree and a turd, hahaha

  • i think his on coca

  • 5:15 From a CAN?? Travesty.....

  • The bubble down thing is the same thing they think sinks ships in the Bermuda triangle. This light defrection thing is the reason the polar bear appears white whereas it's hairs are hollow and almost colourless.

    That was fascinating.

But OMG you're teatotal. So, all the time that gorgeous Guinness was sitting the it was like Marilyn Monroe with Rock Hudson. LOL

  • the video fo the bubbles is very relaxing

  • Comment removed

  • 2008?

  • Why does the colour of the head change over time? Is it because the bits at the top get exposed to air? Why don't they get pulled down by the circulation and recycle to keep a white top?

  • aww, brady, you're cute.

  • I like guiness. Turtles too

  • the same effect makes polar bears white too, because their fur it hollow and colourless.

  • I love how passionate these guys are about what they like! It makes the videos so much more interesting. Also his accent :D

  • @Jenqaah Not a penny. Scroll down to the "View all comments" button at the bottom. Click that. Search for "Moriarty2112" and you'll see that you're not the first to make this suggestion...

    All the best,

    Philip Moriarty (speaking in video)

  • He lost me at Stout.

  • You just made me wanna drink a pint of Guinness

  • Very Interesting video...........no i know what i'm drinking lol

But who really cares to be honest how its made, or how it works, i was watching this to see how guinness can get me more drunk lol

  • I'm also a Tee-Total Irish man. Just want to point that out...

  • Why the hell is this on the youtube main page ???

  • I like this, interesting bloke, I saw something similar about nature always wanting to be the most efficient shape and i guess thats what this is all about. and the reason Guiness takes so long to pull is because of the nitrogen as opposed to carbon dioxide that most drought beers use. Creates a great head but can be a real pain in the arse for a barkeeper

  • @ThomasEdShort You are aware that the Guinness in Ireland is poured slowly and left for at least half an hour under the bar before it is served? It becomes slightly thicker than it is in mainland UK.

It is MEANT to be served warm, not the way that mainland UK serve it... :L

  • Best drink in the world.

  • its an acquired taste, or put in other words, tastes like chit

  • "But lets get back to the guiness"

  • allrite :-/

  • Comment removed

  • this vids amazin but how the fuck did i cum across it?

  • @dicklestick Interesting spelling of the word "come" there.

  • @MichaelHowrie yh jus red it bk nd it duz snd lke i came across my screen lolz 8====D~~~

  • @yenamarre100 The word is 'teetotal'.

  • Fuck, I really want a Guinness now. Screw you SixtySymbols!!

  • PR? :))

  • Cool but whats so amazing about bubbles on guiness? -__-

  • "...but lets get back to the Guinness" hahaha well said.

  • just drink the fucking pint ffs lol

  • Jesus and thats just Guinness. I wonder whats been going on in the bacon sandwich i just ate.

  • OHH I DO LIKE A PINT O BARNSLEY BITTER GOES DOWN WELL!

  • thumbs up if you saw the guy at 8:20 !

  • All i was thinking was are u gonna drink that mate.... Followed by well why dont i help my self...

  • thumbs up if your eyes never left the pint

  • @changfu3 Lol same here ! My name is Kelvin as well ?.. i feel a bit important for once in my life :)

  • that wonky table is annoying

  • I dont like... my head hurt :/

  • Dirty tree and a turd? huh? haha?

  • Comment removed

  • Jesus! Wot is this utter crappy advertising nonsense? boho.com

  • Do the things you love, with the things you love! This video features great minds, great science AND great stout!

  • @SentientArtwork internal bleeding

  • I prefer three bring pronounced as "tree" rather than "free".

  • If the foam is made out of bubbles, then the bubble itself is a liquid, the stuff inside is a gas, then they all stick together which makes it act like a solid.

  • You need to get you lip under the head to get at the black stuff!!! (haha thats what she said!) but really thats the proper way to drink it!

  • At the start I wanted Guinness, by the end I hated it.

  • Just drink it

  • Turn on Transcribe Audio :)

  • I'm 4 wat is this

  • Just Drink the F**kin' thing, If you want to do something useful tell me why me shite turns black when I drink too much of it?

  • i couldnt stop thinking...just drink the beer before it gets warm!!

  • @gibby4499 for one its not a beer, and 2 traditionally u dont drink guinness cold.

  • @gregiec1210 Im from ireland and traditionally you DO drink it cold

Im also 99% sure its a beer so your wrong

  • And it's good for you too!!!

  • wow. makes guinness even better.

  • Am I the only one that wants to know what he was going to say about PV=nRT ? :L

  • answer to my love's question "what the hell you've been drinking!!!" - Thetradithethahydra

  • The hardest thing for me to swallow here was the concept of a tee-totaled Irishman!

  • @JustJobeMY There are many, many non-drinking and moderate drinking Irish .

Ethnic slurs such as your comment went out with the "N" word. And they are just not funny anymore.

  • @Timfitzvs Eep, chill out mate! The comment was made tongue in cheek and meant more as a compliment considering i enjoy drinking with me bloody Irish mates, who generally have a reputation of being damned fish when it comes to alcohol. lol, i can't really believe anyone would see my statement as derogatory.... Take a breather and have a damned pint wont ya? :) peace out!

  • 8:57 - he said: "What's less stereotypical is that I'm ...... ". What did he meant? I couldn't understand it.

  • @LechuCzechu He meant that it's stereotypical to put a irishman in a bar, when they could've just taken the glass to a lab and explained it there.

What was less stereotypical is that he's irish but doesn't drink alcohol.

  • @LechuCzechu ...teetotaler

  • @arepiece83 Thanks, thats exactly what I wanted to know :)

  • cool :)

  • i fancy a guinness now

  • is he drunk? because he talk stuff i dont understand..

  • wow

  • Boring

  • Quickly, i have just logged into my friend's YT account! Please write funny messages on her wall/add her as a friend, whatever!!!! LOL!!!!!!

  • BRILLIANT !!!

  • I'll be honest with you pal, I couldn't care less about the physics, I'd rather just drink the damn thing and be done with it.

  • but why dose it turn your shit black ...

  • I love to drink Guinness (^__^)

  • Bored!

  • (implosion) torus orbit, the appliance of science.

  • @shaunxthexmod777 pure geniuses!

  • Who says you can't learn anythig at 3am.

  • BARMAN: Who......the fuck let this cunt in?

  • I suppose those of you who can't appreciate the science presented here are thinking you're soooo superior while all you do with beer is drink it. Bah. Go piss on your own projects, you simple minded airheads.

  • @lzeph its beer, calm down man

  • @lzeph isn't that what beers for?... to drink it. O_o

  • @lzeph so knobhead, what you meant to do with beer??? fuckin moron

  • @lzeph A very simple minded viewpoint.

  • @OConnorful Oh gee. Ya got me. Owch.

  • Comment removed

  • @petujaymz Comment removed. Must have been awesome!

  • @lzeph

i said something along the lines of...

    Irish rapist cunt

go wank ur dad off faggot

  • @petujaymz Thanks for clearing that up. Disappointing, though. Wasn't nearly as awesome as I'd imagined. Funny how those who have nothing intelligent to add to a discussion are so willing to flaunt their ignorance in a public forum.

  • @lzeph Indeed. It's depressing. In one of the other Sixty Symbols videos I point out that the vast majority of comments under the videos are intelligent, perceptive, and thought-provoking. There's always someone like @petuajaymz, however, to provide a counter-example or two (Cue abuse...)

Thanks for your kind words on the video in any case. I'd ignore @petuajaymz - he's not worth the effort.

    All the best,

    Philip (speaking in video)

  • @Moriarty2112 Yeah, I'm done. hee I hope we'll see more of you in future Sixty Symbols videos. I'm not well-versed in science, and you guys have truly grabbed my attention -- and increased my understanding. Wow. Thanks for your contributions to this educational and entertaining channel.

    Warm regards,

    lzeph

  • @lzeph I also piss it afterwards.
