@pommes1983 The octopus can be in fresh water for a temporary time, and the gold fish only needs to be alive in salt water long enough to be hunted. And saltwater fish can eat freshwater ones (but not the other way around).
It's a type of pygmy octopus, when you order them they don't know what kind it is but we were thinking an Octopus Vulgaris or Bimac. He could stretch over 2 ft wide when he grew. He was still kinda young here.
@maximustrainingwave like crabs or crayfish, and live fish, you would save a ton of money so see if there is anywhere around where you could gather food for them =] They will also eat frozen fish and stuff when they are young, but don't prefer it haha. They love to hunt things.
The octopus only actually costs about 30-250$ depending on what kind you get. Ours was only like 50 or 60, and ended up getting like 2 feet wide or wider when stretching! The most cost is the tank and the live rock, which cost upwards of 1-2000$. You can get the live rock over time though as they grow. They are really sensitive to water quality though so make sure you have a good protein skimmer and water quality. Also the food can cost alot, if you can find somewhere close to go and gather food
Live rock, is rock with good algae and organisms living and growing inside of it. You can buy it by the pound at an aquarium store.
And you use regular tap water that you've treated with chemicals to settle the bad stuff out, and then you put salt in the jugs of the clean water. You have to do a water change (replace about 15-40% of the water) every few weeks so make sure you have extra water ready and fill up your containers you store it in every time you empty them.
They can eat gold fish every once in a while, but they are very fatty so they are more like snacks. If you live near a stream or saltwater, get crayfish, crabs, or fish for free as much as possible to help save on food costs.. And also you feed them frozen fish. We fed ours mostly frozen fish, salt and freshwater crabs, and crayfish!
I'm not going to type a huge comment about it because it's not worth it, but don't comment this video about keeping octopuses as a pet negatively, unless you've ever owned, or actually know something about them.. =/
Pygmy octopuses don't live long in the wild or captivity, it's just the nature of octopuses.. They just don't live long. Even Giant octopuses live like less than 5 years.. Unfortunate.. But sooo worth the time that you can have with them. Amazing animals.
Have you ever even looked it up? Octopi is plural for octopus. Everybody knows that, or at least they should. How can a word be a myth? It's in the dictionary.
@NuclearCentipede Haha no it isn't. I thought it was too until we got our octopus and got books on them and stuff. Octopodes is the actual plural, not used anymore though, and Octopuses is what is used now.
38 Gallon Salt, and we're not positive what kind, Thinkin a Bimac or maybe vulgaris but it only got to like 26-30 inches when he stretched his arms out, which was decently big lol.
It lived in our aquarium for like a year and 3 to 5 months, so almost a year and a half.. They are are only supposed to live from 1 year to 2 and a half years.. sucks, they are smart/amazing animals and really interactive, we grew pretty attached.
You just have to have a 38 gallon+ saltwater tank set up for a while with a lot of live rock until all of the levels of chemicals and critters are right, then you just order one off the internet =] If you go about getting one though, make sure you are dedicated to cleaning the water often, and spending $ on random food for them =P
No license needed tho nope. They run about $50-300 dollars or so depending on if you get a rare species or something.. And they only live about 1-1.5 years =[
So cool!

ey man im thinking about getting me one. how much do they cost?
marvincooper 4 months ago
@marvincooper Anywhere from $50-350+ depending on the species.. Ours was a pygmy, only $50. The saltwater setup is what is expensive

FedorCroCop44 2 years ago
@Krisbrak Hey dude how did they deliver your octopus?
I find it hard to believe that they could put a octopus could be put in a mini bag and kept in there without any food for however many days.
dragonryder99 5 months ago
@dragonryder99 He came in a bag, in a box! No joke. They ship them quickly to keep them alive, but there is always the risk of them not making it..
