what i think they were sued for, was the game sprites extracted from the .wz files.. now if bannedstory should get into trouble for this shit so should basilmarket and hidden street.. these fansites use these sprites all over their whole site

Huge mistake. They just eliminated a huge promotion for them. I swear Nexon is run by morons, that have absolutely no sense of logical decision. Sure bannedstory violated a small copyright issue. However, I do believe this is something that could have just as easily been overlooked, seeing it has done a lot more good then bad. I don't think they have thoroughly thought out possible bad outcomes of this decision... Seriously, care to explain what good will come out of this?

My friend is a GM for GMS and he told me some of the "lower ranked" coders, developers, and advertisers are in outrage at maple koreas decision. Im not really gonna tell you your wrong but there are a lot of comments, and people saying that the legal team for kms screwed up, or are full of noobs, however it's like you said, the petition probably won't end up doing much.

Do they not realize how big the bannedstory animation community has become...we're technically PROMOTING their game by producing entertainment through their sprites so I find this to be unreasonable. I've been making a new maplestory animation for the last 2 years and I am NOT giving up on my film because of this! We all came so far and for years, nexon has tolerated us, so why is it that they decide to crush our animation dreams now...this is so sad not just for me, but for all maplers =(

Nexon's retention of BannedStory is completely justified, and online petition isn't going to do anything. If you look at it from a resonable perspective, the fact that BannedStory's material is 100% Nexon's property, their cease and desist notice is completely acceptable and warranted. Nexon's rights were violated and they acted against it, as anyone else would. Your online petition, most likely, isn't going to waver any sort of decision created by them.

@barrystevenorvin While it is legally justified it's also absurd. BannedStory had not damaged the MapleStory/Nexon userbase and it actually brought in players. Several years ago I learned about MapleStory from a Maple Short, this short was animated with BannedStory. Legally, they can do whatever they want with their content, but in reality all they did was lose a player. Goodbye MapleStory.

While some people could consider MMV's as "advertising" for MapleStory, I'm sure Nexon wants to control their investment in Maplestory as closely as possible. Third party applications such as BannedStory are not only unregulated but also infringe the Nexon company's rights, which are defendable only by shutting down the site. I doubt Nexon is depending at all on YouTube to gain players.
