  • Very Good Lesson, Theodore Ziras Great Master

  • Something very fundamental about soloing finally clicked into place for me while watching this lesson. You are a superb teacher, thank you so much!

  • Kalispera Theodore kai sugxarhthria gia th douleia sou. Sunexizw sta agglika gia na mhn epanalamvanontai erwthseis aptous agglofwnous 8aumastes. You mentioned to someone on the part 1 of this scale , that A dorian for example is relative with G major chords and etc. Here apparently you use the B dorian over B minor 7th and 6th chords.

Does that mean that you could also use B dorian over A major chords for example ? instead of A ionian ? or what is the relativity in few words.

  • @ioel83

B Dorian is the second mode of A Ionian (major)

or in other words is like playing "A Ionian" but starting from B

Dorian has a minor third....so belongs to the "minor family"

    a cool/typical chord progression for B Dorian is Bmin/ Amaj /

  • Hi Theo,

    Great lessons,thanks!

Is that Genelec 8240's behind you?

Have you tried going directly from the Pod out into the Genelec?

Will it give good results in a smaller room?

  • @MusicMan20061210

    i have the Genelec 8030

there are very good for a small studio project

    POD sound great on them

  • @tziras Thank you,Theo.

I was hoping that would work.

This way I will avoid having my 200 Watt Marshall stack in my small project studio. :-)

  • thanks for having this lesson mr ziras, I've never really had any idea on how to phrase a dorian scale until I watched this. Now I have a much much better idea on how and when to use it.

  • I am from Greece

  • @stnhristov

Who cares where is he from.

His a good teacher, and thats that!

  • i wuz curious

  • great video

  • really helping me! Thank You!

  • You are insanely good - and a great teacher, too. Best teaching facility I've seen on youtube for quite some time. Many thanks.

  • me again just a question.

does that mean you can play that particular mode for each chord in the scale?

ie - a major play on the root, bm start on the 2nd degree, cm start on the 3rd degree, d major start on the 4th degree etc etc?

    thanks

  • just to add, Bm ios of course the second chord in the scale of A major so you just matched the scale pattern to the chord.

    thanks

    nice lesson.

  • isn't the dorian scale just playing on the second degree of the mahor scale.

so all you're doing is playing the scale of A major starting on the second B note?

  • Technically you are right

But...you have to treat each mode is it is

    "B Dorian" is .........."B Dorian"

    with 1 2 b3 4 5 6 b7

if you treat is as any relative scale(e.g "A IONIAN")

you will face problems while improvising

  • i don't understand how the licks/ soloing are based around certain scales =S. they sound nothing a like

  • Watch carefully the Lick of the Week #26

and then try to apply this scale in to Lick #27

  • because they are in the same key.

ie in the key of A major their are 7 chords built from that scale.

    A, Bm, C#m, D, E7, F#m, G#m7b5, A

  • what's the song called in the beggining of the video?

  • Track: Salvation...

    From "Hyperpyrexia" CD (2007)

  • fucking,,,keywords

  • If your in drop d how does this scale change?

  • i don't play in drop D

    so i cannot help you

  • only the D string you have to move 2 frets up the rest stays the same

  • good job

it would be cool if you could show us slowly some licks u threw in there

too fast for me too see

  • can you play more slow pleaseeeeeeeeeeee.... we want to see your licks!!!!!! thnks!!!

  • love the lessons. Theodore you are great man.

  • Awesome playing and very helpful.

  • It's really sad that you don't have like over a hundred thousan views on these videos. Helpful for any guitarist

  • awesome dude this helped me keep it up the new album is sick too if u havent heard check it out

  • thankz..

    very helping..

  • Your explanations are very clear for me.

    Very good exemple too.
