No, there was never an e38 760. The 760 wasn't made until the e65/e66. There were some super rare (7 in total) 860's made before 1999 (not made by bmw). You can check out the "bmw e38" page on wikipedia for all of your questions.

There is also the F01 760, but they are really new and cost $140k.

I would go for the 740d my self, as it has the twin turbo v8 diesel, and it has more torque than the v12 gas --> faster than a 750 from a roll, not 0-60.

I know they sold a diesel but not in America. The smallest engine available in America is the 740 with the 288hp V8.

Even I would have to admit a diesel sedan weighing more than 2 tons and designed for fuel efficiency would be slow

740D-3.9 liters 560 Nm@1750rpm 245hp

750i - 5,4 liters 490 Nm@3900rpm 326hp

740i - 4.4 liters 440 Nm@3600rpm 276hp

I am just saying the 0-60 time for the 740D is about 8 sec, compared to a 740i has been clocked at 6.0 and 6.1 by many testers.

Not that 8 sec is slow, my olds 88 with 205hp does 9 sec at best, as with most cars.

On wiki, it says the biggest engine was 180bhp with 167 ftlbs of torque for the legend. The base v8 for the e38 had 288 bhp and 324 ftlbs of torque. The v12 came with 322 bhp and 361 ftlbs. The base straight 6 728i had 190bhp.

Im sorry, the later legend came with 236 bhp... but still the e38 v8 usually comes with 305 @ the wheels because they had to de-rate it b/c the v12 only put out 322.

E38 are very reliable, our 728i has now 176000 miles (283000 kilometers) and it still runs very well.

The maintanance costs a little bit more than a normal car, but you have to respect it; that's why some E38 seems not to be reliable : the other owners of the car didn't respect this maintanance, so, after them, you have to repair all that stuff....

Also realize the car costs 60-100k new, so it costs about 4x as much as a piece of shit econobox, so 17/4 = 3.75k on repairs over almost 10 years, I think I am doing very well. And I spend more than most people with e38's, usually they spend about 1 k a year.

Yea i got e38 750 too, people tell me it's just an old bimmer, over rated, and don't know what 750 has over a 740. It feels like your driving a jet and if you want an adreneline rush the 5.4 v12 will get your bllod pumping as it hurls you to the 250km limit without letting up. The design of an e38 has got to be one the most respected on the road, when you see an e38 in your rearview you get out of the way. We will keep these e38's running and dominate the roads!
