  • id always go to this city to save my game because of the music

  • New systems got nothin' on SNES

  • SquarEniz should totally remake this game! :D

  • @sanrok2

    No way, leave it.

  • @porterwake Why, when you can always go back to this great game? If the remake is a screw-up, just go back to playing this one. Just as simple as that lol

  • KING K WUZ HERE 2011

  • Square couldn't do wrong in the 90's.

  • supradarky ive seen literally every music game video(out of all my boring free time) and your list of vgm is the best you chose all games that were either a huge hit or were made with really good song moments hope you make more

  • My bad i was refering to the video bgm of into the thick of it! Gold city still very cool!

  • Yeah this song is my favorite on Secret of Mana i really like the Gold city song too. You know it's funny all these rpg or rpg action games like secret of mana chrono trigger and lunar the silver star all have amazing soundtracks and we're amazing games. Plus did any one notice they all have a town or city in the clouds. I thought this concept was very cool aswell!

  • Que lindos recuerdos :-)

  • Square just beat the hell out of everybody asses on makeing RPGs

  • 90s Squaresoft 4 Lyfe ;_;

  • what a joy shopping in goldtown and listen to this :)

  • the amount of work put into the music of these games is astounding.

I love 90's Squaresoft so much...

  • the time when u just played with a friend all night long on snes

today u have those fucking mmorpgs

  • @RadditzZ what would you do if they made MMORPG for a console with RPG's and Arcade games like in olden days?

  • @MrAgnost hm, play them? dunno what u mean with that question xD

  • I was so shocked to hear this when I appeared in the town. I was expecting some really intense music. I got this though. The only thing this unexpected is going to a concert expecting Slayer and getting the Beatles.

  • I never really thought about it til I read these comments, but I believe the music was like this to portray the naivety of the citizens of the empire and their blind trust of the emperor. To them, life is perfect because they know not of the impending doom the empire would try to bring, thus, the perfect, happy music. The gold city itself represents a big, shiny distraction from the empire's true plans and actions, so it seems the music is fitting.

  • That's a good way to think about it. I've had those thoughts as well when I revisited those areas for the awesome music.

  • @SMRPGFAN101 nice one :D

  • "THE EMPIRE IS EVIL!" - Secret of Mana

"But... But the music is so pretty!" - Me.

  • what I love of this part of the game is this: you could finally go to ... The Empire. So I expected a full on assault, but instead got to the most beautifull part of the game, with the most wonderfull music.

  • Fantastic! I remember this as a stand-out track and I have been looking for it for ages. Got a bit bored of the game though, wasn't a good as Zelda LttP!

  • you make the best VGM ever 5*

  • Wow, this is '93!?

  • epic!

  • i always remember renting this and finally hearing that music knowing i could finally get some badass armor. thanks for posting

  • aaah secret of mana, theres more truth in fiction than anything else these days

  • I love this. Makes me feel great.

  • it's buyable on wiiware. go download and replay. it's worth it.

who knows, maybe if enough people buy it, they'll put up seiken densetsu 3 too, which also had superb music...

one can dream at least. =)

  • Yeah, I just saw it a couple of weeks ago, it's about time. Maybe now they'll get Lufia, 7th Saga, and some other good rpgs on the virtual console.

  • Very catchy and upbeat song...Could listen it for hours and hours...

  • Good stuff. Say what you will, but I wish they'd canned Neko's theme entirely and used this for more of the towns.

What was Neko's sprite doing, anyway? Too slow for jumping rope, it's probably not a hat, and if it's a paper fan, I don't even want to know why he's constantly waving it behind himself.

  • I always though it was a hood of some sorts

  • It's a big huge bag he's carrying on his back. He keeps shifting and arranging it.

  • @deadacc64852 I thought it was a sack.

  • proves that the retro classic RPG games still got some of the absolute best music tracks ever used. this is one damn good example

  • wow nostalgia

  • WOW! Super flash back! Thanks for the upload man... I used to LOVE this game as a kid.

  • Damn this brings back memories. The city to buy some of the best gear in the game lol

  • Where can i download this song?

  • So relaxed 5 star

  • Very nice.

  • Too bad Gold City will one day sink under the weight of off that gold. They'd better start exporting it fast... though that might cause global financial ruin thanks to hyperinflation, heh.

  • I totally remember Gold City and this song, which made me wish it were a brilliant October afternoon with birches and maples all flaring with bright gold leaves.

  • one of the best tracks.

    and I agree with TheYorkMan.

  • Damn right! This is my favorite SOM track!

  • I remember the first time I heard this tune. After going through so much of the game by that point i didn't think there would be any new tunes for the towns/cities. But this is my favourite tune in the game by far, i could listen to it all day.

Why was there there no orchestral version done :(

  • I never got to finish this game ~cry~

  • Gold city. SoM had the best soundtrack ever.

  • My favorite theme from this game is Flammie Theme 2.

  • damn i LOVE this game both music and gameplay! brings back memories:D

  • You got that right! =D

  • This music played in North/South Town and Gold City. This is one of my favorite musics from SoM. We need more Secret of Mana games released. They're all awesome.

  • The music in this game will never be matched

  • I have this in the original box here. Been back to it many times. Have the soundtrack collection now also.

  • Best game ever!!!

  • @lucario2404

Yeah i must admit one of my all time favorites. The first of it's kind with rpg action. SImply an amazing game fun till the end. Music for this game was phenominumal. I strongly suggest checking out lunar the silver star rpg and chrono trigger both are as good imo. All have amazing soundtracks! None the less one of my favs!

  • hell yeah, my favorite video game of all time and this is my favorite song from it

  • The nicest song ever is the one in the Forest with Dragons in night before Mana Tree.

  • think this was in south town :D

  • not my favorite SOM song but god this bring back song good memories of my childhood with friends. i wished back 15 years in time and play this once again with my multitap :S

  • damn supradarky you play all my favorite games x333

  • Christ, this was one of my favorite songs in this game. I would go to the City of Gold and just let the game run because I liked it so much.

Why do so many RPGs (old ones, particularly) have so many good songs?

  • Japanese have an awesome 'take' on the western system of music and since they make these things...

And it was this song that made me fell in love with this song's chord structure (it's used in alot of other japanese music; even J-pop !)

  • can't believe there no more comments here! Secret of Mana.. with Terranigma one of the most memorable games ever..

  • FUCK YA. It's funny how people enjoy the same video game songs I do.

  • This brings back memories.
