i have driven a bus for many years now ... sounds like the driver screwed up. seat belts are still a debate. it will be impossible for one driver to get a fully loaded 40' bus that has flipped on its side unloaded in time to save all the students even if she had a seat belt cutter. plus a childs weight against the belt in many cases makes it very hard to open.
I think that you should get a class two license or the equivialant in the States, if that's where you are from. Be trained, then I challenge you to drive a school bus for one month or longer, let's seen how you do. THEN you can judge this driver.

For those who are wondering, documentery said that not having to move the steering wheel(and other tasks on curvy roads) causes the driver to get bored and fall asleep at the wheel and then you-know-what.

they need 3 point harneses in school buses so in an accident the child doesnt move from original poistion but if there was a fire it would be a safety risk, take your kids to school yourself is what i say, i trust bus drivers i dont trust everyone else on the road
I've been driving Transit for over a decade now and I would like to consider myself a very safe driver. I think one of the biggest problems on the road is that people don't want to be behind the slow bus. I have had people go around me wrecklessly just to get ahead. I feel people in cars are the biggest concern to childrens safety on the road.

With regards to this accident though, I still stand by my position. The driver was not doing everything she could have done to keep the children safe. As a result there were fatalities... I think jail time should be required and loss of license for 5 years minimum!!!

I know both the 13 year old boy and the smaller boy who were in the accident. The 13 year old and his sister used to take my bus occasionally. They are both fine, the 13 year old had a pretty sweet scar. The younger boy is 100%. My ex was supposed to be on the bus but she had a doctors appointment.

my 6 yr old son rides a school bus every day, they dont have seat bealts on his bus and its a newer bus, only some states have implemented that law
