@Kinetical100 I have Asperger's and although I'm nowhere near Daniel's abilities, I can certainly identify with/understand what he does in his mental processes, as I do many similar things in my own mind. @Kinetical100 (continued) ability to fixate on one particular subject or problem for quite as much time as he can which impacts the rate at which I can learn something.
Daniel is extremely lucky. He is certainly autistic, and also suffers from epilepsy, both of which are usually extremely crippling. In my case, I don't have epilepsy, but my Asperger's component does make it difficult for me in social situations.
Wow a week? That is incredible he is like a super human. The human brain is evolving. Stop letting the people on welfare breed! We must extract the sperm from all idiot savants and spread it around the worldddddd!!!!
Just because you can recite Pi to the 22514th place doesn't mean you're smart. Just because you can learn a whole new language in 7 days doesn't either. Sure I can't do them. But I know other stuff and learn at 8 times a normals learning speed. Sure my Social skills are lacking and I ignore most peoples claims for intelligence. Sure people learn more and more the more advanced the society gets but still are we using the same learning system.
@livedandletdie Smart and intelligence are two different things. Picking up on things is a part of using methods (which can determine effectiveness). So, in essence in the terms of comparing gaining knowledge and being smart, you are right.
Tammet speaks a variety of languages including English, French, Finnish, German, Spanish, Lithuanian, Romanian, Estonian, Icelandic, Welsh and Esperanto. He particularly likes Estonian, because it is rich in vowels. Tammet is creating a new language called Mänti. Mänti has many features related to Finnish and Estonian, both of which are Finno-ugric languages. Some sources credit Tammet as creating the Uusisuom and Lapsi languages as well.
I'm Icelandic and I've never heard anyone say a word by blowing out their nose like she did at 0:25 , eru einhverjir íslendingar hérna sem eru sammála mér?
I would be more impressed if he learnt all the dialects and regional accents in England. You can travel ten miles and people talk completely differently and have their own words.
She says it's not human, but a human is clearly doing it. C'mon people, there is so much we can do. And the amazing thing is, we don't know what it is.
Ironic because in a way, evolution is what stops us from achieving him. Even though aspergers does improve our memory and cognitive abilities, it (usually) makes us socially dysfunctional, and unhealthy physically, therefore we would not survive as the fittest, as darwin would put it. That is why such people are so rare. Before the creation of civilization, such savants would probably not make it to adulthood, and would certainly never mate.
@HaggardFlea What a stupid thing to say... His skills are not genetic, so how is it evolutionary at all? When he reproduces, it will be impossible for his savanthood to be passed on...
@HaggardFlea I misunderstood your comment, but if you're saying that he is the very next step humans will reach, you're still wrong. That's not how evolution works. Who says the next step will even be a mental one? Educate yourself...
@chocolatedonut31 It's probably likely that mental progression is the next step in evolution. As now 1/10000 is born with asperger syndrome which is the minor Savant.

What you should ask Daniel is, "Does God exist? Is there a God, and if there is whom is the right God?" There are so many religions out there, and the question of God's existence has always been a puzzle!
As a Norwegian , I can read Icelandic and derive the meaning from the text , I do not grasp it all, have hard to believe it is the most advanced language on earth.
my favorite savant is that one guy who can look at something and draw it to exact detail from memory...like drawing all of new york city after seeing it from a helicopter for 30 minutes. if only we could unlock this ability in all of us...then again i find we'd use our full brain functions to end up killing each other even faster :P
@SilverYoshi111 Those languages are actually quite easy to speak. Its the written aspect of those languages that are difficult. The pernounciations of asian languages are mostly just sylobols.
I dunno, he could just as well have memorised just a few phrases that would answer the questions most likely to come up. There is no way he learned the entire language.
@raydredX@Isaacelric1129 Don't trust everything you see on TV, this documentary is more to "entertainment" than actual legit science. The japanese kids could do speed arithmetic faster without claiming their fingers are moving imaginary visuals. and speaking Icelandic sure is like asthma for someone who has issues with metaphors. (: there's a lot more
At the risk of sounding like a grump, any native English-speaker with a passable grasp of linguistics (and the language-learning shortcuts that go with it) would be grateful if the foreign tongue he had to learn was Icelandic--one that bears some deceptively close similarities to English and other Germanic languages (which Tammet already had studied). The accomplishment is impressive, but hopefully this contextualizes it a little bit.

Why in the hell are they xraying his brain????!!!!! WTF?? Isn't it possible on some level that radiation could have a negative impact on his neural alignment or synapses if they have no idea what it is that makes him different? This feels like some goose that laid the golden egg stuff.......
@MrBrooksboy x-raying someone's brain would have the same affect on a person as x-raying their leg. They'd still get the same amount of radiation. As long as they dont do it like everyday then I doubt it would cause problems.
Loads of people have MRI scans and cat scans and whatnot all the time. :3
@kazarific15994 You're right. Only 1:1000 suffer adverse effects such as cancer as a result of x-rays etc, so in moderation, (and if you dont have sensationally bad luck) you will be fine.
Good job Daniel you are the best. I have seen you at about every media and every way of publishing information. I know you have a gift but i'm still waiting to see how you are going to help people. We need you in this world, so help it. Show us more of what you are capable.
He has the smart race cuz aliens made huge ppl like 20 meters tall and made very very smart ppl and made us and the huge ppl and the smart ppl extinct and maybe he has the smart genetic.
not to be rude, but icelandic sounds quite similar to dutch. if he really knows 9 languages, like english, dutch etc., quite some words must sound very similar to him, just like they do for me.
one time my family was on a holiday and we met some icelandic people and we could just talk to each other and kind of understand each other (filling in the gaps with english though, it was by no means sufficient).. not to take away from him, but maybe icelandic was a bad example?
@wubs23 i'm dutch and icelandic doesn't sounds anything like dutch. If you would have said english or german sounds a little like dutch then that's treu alot of words ara simaliar and of the same sort of primal langauge
@dutch24guy actually it does. villkommen = welkom, unmoglich = onmogelijk, gutentagen = goedendag, noem maar op.
@wubs23 thing with icelandic is the ridiculous amounts of inflection (nouns, verbs, adjectives) present in the language and having to learn all the situations in which what tense, mood or gender combination must be used in the span of a week is just absolutely profound. icelandic was a great example but what would have been more interesting would to see him try to learn a completely unrelated language, like navajo.
@emperorsenshi yes, that was what i was getting at. i understand it's ridiculous if he can speak with perfect grammar, but to me they couldve picked a better language.
Im from Finland and im 14 and i learned to read at the age of 4 to 5. Then i watched movies on tv with my dad and when i heard the people in the movie speak English i connected what they said to the subtitles and taught myself English in a way i didnt notice that much. Now i can talk English without having to think about talking English. It just comes out of my mouth naturally as if it was my own language. Its weird i dont even know myself how i understand English this well O_O
I think that while he may not have the unfathomable, though still FUCKING impressive, intellect of Kim Peek, he does have amazingly good social skills, considering his Apserger's, the likes of which Peek never acheived (RIP).
Unfuckingbelievable ! This is by far the best thing on utube !!! I can't do math for shit !
And I was a crap dealer. I like the bullshit at las Vegas. This guy could of taught alot of things pepole could use to beat alot of games. Craps, roulette , and he would kill a 2deck blackjack game.
Guys are you all BLIND? Can't you see hes a fucking alien from space?? He is not human! hes a freak from fucking mars! There is evidence at 4:18 when his ship is getting ready to take off!
What geniuses do with their skills is sometimes baffling. Billy Sidis was obsessed with cable car transfers and working out best-routes in San Francisco for example. Other more important things interested him obviously, but that was a strange one.
Why is Stephen Hawking revered by non-scientists? He discovered Hawking radiation, granted, but other than that he just makes grand statements that he never backs up.
@Nautilus1972 Stephen Hawking actually is able to make extremely complicated calculations in his head; it is the only way he can since he can't hold a pencil or use a computer with his limited movement. No doubt Hawking is an incredible human being that is worthy of admiration not only for his mathematical abilities, but for his initiative at looking further into the great unsolved mysteries, popular cosmic theories, etc. And for continuing to do what he loves despite the obstacles presented.
I appreciate part of his brain but I will never change mine for his.
Is like he has a powerful GPU and I have a modest CPU but in the end I prefer the CPU is slower most of the times but I can do a bit more. One thing that I will like to have more is RAM but I will not trade that for a slower CPU so I'm quite happy with what I have :)
@sephiroth77416 :) I'm guessing the question is for the part where I make the analogy with GPU and CPU.
You will probably need a bit more knowledge about the CPU and GPU and how they are use for computation.
But I'm sure you will understand this in just couple of years.
The idea is that Daniel has a faster brain when it comes to mathematical operations but it has some limitations on other abilities and he is lucky that is not affected that much as others that have different abilities.
This should be a lesson to anyone who would contemplate aborting a fetus diagnosed with autism. It shows that we all have a place in life and a reason for life.
this guy didnt do anything that would help people all over the world, only genius I know was Nikola Tesla and this guy doesnt come near when it comes to intelligence and brain power
@kizaru333 why would he even do anything? he's still trying to discover himself. and yes his brain power surpasses tesla's intelligence and brain power. he even made a new language
@sephiroth77416 lol u dont have any clue how wrong you are, he doesnt come nowhere NEAR Tesla, guy who made new inventions basically every single day, had plans to make free electricity for all people on earth and MANy many more, he is even directly responsible you are able to use internet and post nonsense, this guy here didnt do squat during his whole existence
@kizaru333 Well, despite not having done something for the human race directly he will contribute indirectly. Tesla was truly a great man of his time and has contributed a lot, more than many. However Temmet has a spectacular brain. The part of our body that we have least knowledge of and is the key to understanding. If we study his brain, in the long run we might crack the key to full access to our brain capacity without side effects like autism. We might eradicate Alzheimer's etc.
so they teach the most intricate dialect human's speak..next to a fucking geyser? For christ's sake.

Why in the hell are they xraying his brain????!!!!! WTF?? Isn't it possible on some level that radiation could have a negative impact on his neural alignment or synapses if they have no idea what it is that makes him different? This feels like some goose that laid the golden egg stuff.......
MrBrooksboy 4 months ago
@MrBrooksboy x-raying someone's brain would have the same affect on a person as x-raying their leg. They'd still get the same amount of radiation. As long as they dont do it like everyday then I doubt it would cause problems.
Loads of people have MRI scans and cat scans and whatnot all the time. :3
kazarific15994 4 months ago
@kazarific15994 You're right. Only 1:1000 suffer adverse effects such as cancer as a result of x-rays etc, so in moderation, (and if you dont have sensationally bad luck) you will be fine.

sorry, sorry.. no i was wrong. it wasn't icelandic, it was norwegian. they were from the Faroe islands and that's part of denmark not iceland.
wubs23 5 months ago
not to be rude, but icelandic sounds quite similar to dutch. if he really knows 9 languages, like english, dutch etc., quite some words must sound very similar to him, just like they do for me.
one time my family was on a holiday and we met some icelandic people and we could just talk to each other and kind of understand each other (filling in the gaps with english though, it was by no means sufficient).. not to take away from him, but maybe icelandic was a bad example?
wubs23 5 months ago
@wubs23 i'm dutch and icelandic doesn't sounds anything like dutch. If you would have said english or german sounds a little like dutch then that's treu alot of words ara simaliar and of the same sort of primal langauge
dutch24guy 5 months ago
@dutch24guy actually it does. villkommen = welkom, unmoglich = onmogelijk, gutentagen = goedendag, noem maar op.
wubs23 5 months ago
@wubs23 thing with icelandic is the ridiculous amounts of inflection (nouns, verbs, adjectives) present in the language and having to learn all the situations in which what tense, mood or gender combination must be used in the span of a week is just absolutely profound. icelandic was a great example but what would have been more interesting would to see him try to learn a completely unrelated language, like navajo.
emperorsenshi 5 months ago

@wowsux97 I also learned english by myself and I already knew it before they started to teach it at school :)

I think that while he may not have the unfathomable, though still FUCKING impressive, intellect of Kim Peek, he does have amazingly good social skills, considering his Apserger's, the likes of which Peek never acheived (RIP).

Nautilus1972 6 months ago
@Nautilus1972
I wouldnt say hes revered just well known, from his books, etc
T1memaster 6 months ago
@Nautilus1972 Stephen Hawking actually is able to make extremely complicated calculations in his head; it is the only way he can since he can't hold a pencil or use a computer with his limited movement. No doubt Hawking is an incredible human being that is worthy of admiration not only for his mathematical abilities, but for his initiative at looking further into the great unsolved mysteries, popular cosmic theories, etc. And for continuing to do what he loves despite the obstacles presented.

he got the brain power but he didnt get the looks.... well you cant get everything in life
copperhead88 7 months ago
I appreciate part of his brain but I will never change mine for his.
Is like he has a powerful GPU and I have a modest CPU but in the end I prefer the CPU is slower most of the times but I can do a bit more. One thing that I will like to have more is RAM but I will not trade that for a slower CPU so I'm quite happy with what I have :)
electrodacus 7 months ago
@electrodacus what?
sephiroth77416 7 months ago
@sephiroth77416 :) I'm guessing the question is for the part where I make the analogy with GPU and CPU.
You will probably need a bit more knowledge about the CPU and GPU and how they are use for computation.
But I'm sure you will understand this in just couple of years.
The idea is that Daniel has a faster brain when it comes to mathematical operations but it has some limitations on other abilities and he is lucky that is not affected that much as others that have different abilities.

this guy didnt do anything that would help people all over the world, only genius I know was Nikola Tesla and this guy doesnt come near when it comes to intelligence and brain power
kizaru333 7 months ago
@kizaru333 why would he even do anything? he's still trying to discover himself. and yes his brain power surpasses tesla's intelligence and brain power. he even made a new language
sephiroth77416 7 months ago
@sephiroth77416 lol u dont have any clue how wrong you are, he doesnt come nowhere NEAR Tesla, guy who made new inventions basically every single day, had plans to make free electricity for all people on earth and MANy many more, he is even directly responsible you are able to use internet and post nonsense, this guy here didnt do squat during his whole existence
kizaru333 7 months ago
@kizaru333 Well, despite not having done something for the human race directly he will contribute indirectly. Tesla was truly a great man of his time and has contributed a lot, more than many. However Temmet has a spectacular brain. The part of our body that we have least knowledge of and is the key to understanding. If we study his brain, in the long run we might crack the key to full access to our brain capacity without side effects like autism. We might eradicate Alzheimer's etc.
