@benluxonfan not that it's any concern to you, but i've trained as a counter tenor, so i do have quite some experience with the technique, and the so-called "enhancement systems" that several opera houses are now being fitted with are just the beginning. and if you think that doing a reinvented version of a opera aria is a threat to opera singers and the opera genre, then it's a wonder that the genre has survived for as long as it has. lighten up.
Quick, get the Raid! This performance "bugs" me no end! This tripe ISN'T opera. Ms. Giordano has no idea how to sing opera. Opera should be sung according to the intent of the composer and by trained opera singers who have the voice and technique to sing in this genre, not by pop opera performers.
actually, she DID train as an opera singer, but she thought that having to do everything according to established standards was too boring. she was given a record deal after record executives heard her sing this aria first in the traditional way, and then in her own way.
no one has ever said that this is opera, but then bellini isn't around anymore so we can't ask him what he thinks of it. i personally think it's good that music gets reworked and reinvented-regardless of genre
@bhhandel Even if she was bored with having to sing with proper technique, if she sings opera arias, she should still expect to be judged by the same standards as those by which real oepra singers are judged. I also think that opera should be sung in the way in which the composer intended, even if the composer is dead...and most of them are.
exactly. that's why don't really know what they intended, unless of course you can talk to them beyond the grave.
opera has never been sung exactly as written, most big arias were showpieces for specific singers for them to elaborate on as they saw fit. i used to sing a lot of baroque pieces, and they are written for the singer to embellish.
anyway, filippa giordano doesn't sing opera, so why pretend she does...
@bhhandel I think we know a lot of what opera composers intended. Baroque peices are written to be embellished as the singer sees fit. This isn't baroque opera, and I'm sure Bellini never envisioned popera versions of his arias. Giordano has chosen to sing opera arias, even though she says that singing with proper technique is boring. When she sings opera, she should be judged by oepra standards. (Part 1)
@arpeggio1358 well i don't consider this opera, or popera for that matter, so i don't see any reason to pretend that it is. it's a piece taken from an opera, but her vocals has nothing to do with opera, it's a completely different technique. she obviously doesn't intend for this to sound like opera, and it doesn't in any way either. the arrangement is also far from the original. it is obviously not intended to sound like a traditional rendition, so why not take it for what it is- her version.
@bhhandel I don't consider it opera either. I'm afraid that I'm an opera purist. It takes so much training and hard work to be an opera singer and sing opera roles or even arias for that matter. To me, someone making loads of money singing opera arias this way, is a slap in the face to singers who train hard and sacrifice so much to be opera singers. Also, many people think pop opera versions of opera are the real thing. Someone on YT once told me that Sarah Brightman is the "voice of opera."
@arpeggio1358 well i have no porblem with you not liking it, to me the important thing is that a good piece of music and a good voice should be allowed to speak for themselves, as a compliment to both singer and composer. If i decide to sing "dancing queen" using my classical voice, it still won't make it a classical piece, and very often what it all boils down to is taste. if something is well-composed and technically well-delivered, what i think of it is a matter of my personal taste
@arpeggio1358 but it's no definite answer to whether it's "wrong" og "right". i persobally much prefer sarah brightman's voice to many established opera singers, but that may have to do with the fact that i in general prefer her repertoire, to my knowledge she has never performed in an opera, but in the case of many classical srossover singers this probably has more to do with not wanting to commit to the genre rather than a lack of talent or technique.
@bhhandel To me, it's wrong, but that's just my opinion. Each person has to decide for him or herself. Brightman would never be invited to sing a complete role in a legitimate opera house as she doesn't have the voice ot technique for opera. She also always uses a microphone, which opera singers never do except in very rare instances in large outdoor venues with poor acoustics, such as at Arena di Verona which used mics last summer, for the first time. (part 1)
@bhhandel Recently, Andrea Bocelli sang a recital at the Met this year (What was the Met thinking?) and he had no mic. He could hardly be heard and people got to hear his thin reedy voice the way it really sounds, rather than the way they were used to hearing it when he's amplified the way he always is in concerts and on recordings. (part 2)
@arpeggio1358 well it should be said that i've been to several opera houses throughout europe, and also to recitals featuring renowned classical/ opera singers, and several times their voices have been completely overwhealmed by the orchestra. i once "heard" solveig kringelborn sing grieg,ie i saw more than i heard. so even singers who are considered to have the "proper" voice and technique would often benefit greatly from amplification.
@bhhandel Sometimes singers do get overpowered by the orchestra. The conductor needs to rein in the orchestra in these instances. No matter, opera singers never use mics. There were no mics in the 17th, 18th, 19th centuries when these operas were written and mics are never used by opera singers even when they give concerts, or when performing in 20th Century operas.. It simply isn't done, except rarely in big outdoor venues with poor acoustics. This isn't going to change.
@arpeggio1358 well the fact that "it's not done" doesn't take away from the fact that most singers could benefit greatly from it. amplification allows a singer to focus more on the nuances and subtleties, and less on the fact that ideally the back row should hear them just as well as the first row.
@bhhandel No, amplification doesn't benefit an opera singer. Amplification distorts the voice, and distorts nuances and subtleties also. I'm never going to like Giordano and think her versions of opera arias insult the composers who wrote them. Her voice hurts my ears too. I'm sorry, with all due respect, we'll never agree. All opinions welcome on YT.
@arpeggio1358 well, like i said- i prefer to actually HEAR the singers. and any good sound engineer could tell you that this "distortion" you keep talking about won't happen if the engineer knows what he's doing. anyway, you're entitled to your opinion as well, i just happen to think that you're wrong, and that your views are overly conservative and boring, if you can't appreciate new styles, then the world turns into a very dull place. but to each his own.
@bhhandel Yes, amplification will distort voices. It will never be used in opera houses, period. I'm open to new styles, and even new operas. I just want opera to be sung by properly trained opera singers who use correct technique and don't need mics. You may find my views boring, but at least I don't go into raptures over singers like Giordano who catterwaul, sing off pitch, and generally have no respect for the music they sing. Sorry, I think you're wrong.
@arpeggio1358 well i think people with views such as yours will lead to opera receiving no interest from new and younger audiences, and eventually ending up a forgotten art form.
and FYI the santa fe opera has already installed wireless amplification technology, so yes, it WILL happen. ;)
@bhhandel SFO has installed this, but go back and read carefully. It says specifically "There is NO vocal amplification at SFO" . (with NO in caps) Google "Santa Fe Opera amplification" and carefully check the first URL that pops up. I'd give the URL, but YT won't let a URL link be posted in a comment.
@bhhandel Actually, I have to take what I said about her studying chamber music back. I checked her biography, and nowhere is there any mention of any kind of serious training for opera. She had some voice lessons with her mother in both classical technique and pop. This isn't operatic training by any stretch of imagination. As to "benefitting from amplification" - you clearly can't hear the difference betwen amplified and unamplified voice. Some of us can hear it, and it's a huge difference.
@jewelmarkess save it. i am a singer, i know a thing ot two about sound.
also, like i said, i've seen world-class singers who i could barely hear over their accompaniment. i would greatly have preferred for them to use a microphone so they could actually have been heard. i just took a friend to see her first opera, and her first reaction was "i'm glad it was subtitled, half the time i could hearly hear the singers".
@bhhandel You might be a singer, but you clearly aren't an opera singer if you don't know that opera singers don't strain to be heard. You know absolutely nothing about operatic technique. Also, if you don't hear the distortion in amplified voices, then something is wrong with your ears.
@jewelmarkess no, i'm not an opera singer, but my vocal training has been in classical teqhnique, so yes, i know quite a bit about it.and i've never said that opera singers STRAIN to be heard, i said that in order to be heard over an orchestra you have to observe a certain degree of volume, and very often it seems that it seems difficult for many singers to do that in passages that demand a gentler sound. btw did you react like this when they started using electric light in theatres as well? lol
@bhhandel Training in classical technique is not the same as training to be an opera singer. A lot of pop singers train in the basic of classical technique without being trained for opera. Opera singers are heard just fine when they sing pianissimo, it's not just the issue of being loud. When the passages are soft, the orchestra is soft as well. As to the volume, ever heard about resonance?
@jewelmarkess "Opera singers are heard just fine when they sing pianissimo, it's not just the issue of being loud. When the passages are soft, the orchestra is soft as well"- well, perhaps in an ideal world, but unfortunately not in practice.
@bhhandel About "amplification allowing a singer to focus on nuances" - this is your opinion, and it doesn't have any relation to reality. In fact, opera singers' performances are a lot more nuanced and expressive that popera singers' performances. BTW - in good opera theaters, you can hear very well from back rows. With good technique, projection happens naturally, the singers don't have to think about being heard. You clearly have no clue about operatic technique.
well in that case you should blame my teacher, as i have studied it for a couple of years.. anywhoodle, it goes without saying that a singer will need to use a certain degree of volume to be heard all the way to the back row, and this doesn't necessarily allow them to sing as gently as would be ideal in some pieces. this is obviously a matter of principle to you, so i won't expect you to agree, but i greatly prefer a singer to focus on using the vocal expression that allows them
to actually convey the emotion they're going for, rather than to have to think about whether they're actually audible to the entire audience. as for acoustics, i've seen several performances in the hungarian state opera, considered the second- best opera stage in europe, and it was the same problem there. for softer parts of the music, the singers were drowned out.
@bhhandel Well, I've never had this problem in any opera theater I've been to. Again, opera singers are NOT thinking about being heard - it is a natural result of their voices and their singing technique. If a particular singer isn't heard it's either the problem with the conductor or the singers. In terms of emotion, the actual recordings here speak louder than words. Most popera singers performances are completely expressionless, whereas opera singers show a lot o expression.
@jewelmarkess well good for you. if you feel that "showing expression" can make up for people not hearing anything, then i guess you're easily pleased. :) i. on the other hand, am not.
and how do you think the recordings here were made? with microphones ;)
@bhhandel Maybe you didn't hear good singers then? The live sound is very different from amplified sound, and some of us can actually hear the difference. Amplification distorts voices. It's also creates a fake feeling as the sound is coming from the speakers and not from the stage and singers. But in reality, there are a lot more problems with this performance than just amplification. BTW, she's never trained as an opera singer, her major was chamber music not opera.
@bhhandel By the same token, opera singers who try to sing pop, jazz, rock, etc should be judged by the same standards as the singers in those genres. Most opera singers fail dismally at singing anything other than opera or classical. The two notable exceptions were Eileen Farrell and Benjamin Luxon. They both sang in many different styles and did it beautifully. (Part 2)
While miss Giordano is a good pop singer, her voice is just not suited to opera or popera. Her tone is too breathy and she doesn't have enough vibrato. I am glad that she is allowing others to enjoy arias, but I do hope her fans will also listen to real opera singers such as Anna Netrebko, Ruth Ann Swenson, Kathleen Battle, Renee Fleming, Beverly Sills, Lucia Popp, etc. to hear the difference in voice. I wish her all the best!
@flowersings Great suggestions for recordings to listen to. I think Swenson has one of the most beautiful and beautifuly trained voices ever. Battle's voice also has great beauty fo tone and elegance.
@flowersings , maybe you can't make the difference on soprano, mezzo-soprano, alto, tenor, baritone, bass, countertenor and castrato.all these are opera singers types :)
@rebital Yes they are. Have you listened to any examples of these types in opera? Just because someone is a soprano, mezzo soprano, alto, tenor, bass, contralto ( a woman's lowest voice), doesn't mean that they are an opera singers. To be an opera singer, you have to produce your sound properly, exercise proper technique, but most importantly, you have to have a good enough voice. Giordano has none of these things. She is simply singing an aria very poorly.
@rebital There are other soprano types in opera such as stratospheric, lyric, dramatic, and spinto. All of which can be coloraturas. I'm training in opera, so I know a lot about this or I wouldn't comment. I don't claim to know a lot about economics or politics, so I would never argue those things, but I do know a lot about voice. You'll just have to trust me. Before I knew a lot about voice I was just like you and thought if someone could sing an aria they were an opera singer.
@rebital Listen to some of the opera singers in my comment you replied to or listen to Angela Gheorghiu Casta Diva. There's a world of difference! After you have listened to at least one of these singers, then we'll talk again.:)
@flowersings if those singers you've mentioned above have other kind of voices, doesn't means that Fillipa Giordano (who seems to sing an aria of the famous Norma) is not an opera singer.if she wasn't,she would never sing it !
@flowersings Do you have any training or education in classical voice? Trust me, she is no opera singer!!! She would never survive in an opera!!! Anybody can sing the words to an aria, but she doesn't even have an operatic voice!!! She would be laughed off the stage in an opera competition. She's a bad classical crossover singer- that's all!!! You need to listen to some real opera singers. When you do, you'll hear the difference!! Until then, this argument is futile!
@flowersings Opera singers have to go through years of rigorous training. Most of them have a degree in vocal performance and a masters in music. Giordano doesn't even have basic voice training. She doesn't even hit half her pitches. Her high notes are some of the worst I've ever heard! She doesn't even breathe correctly. I don't want to be rude, but she is a joke in the opera world!! No one can stand to listen to her! It's okay if you like, but she IS NOT an OPERA SINGER!
@flowersings there are different ways to sing any aria, and differnt interprets may varry the way of acting.if you'll see all the videos about Casta Diva, you'll not find two song identicly perfomed.if you think you can sing better,go ahead! (no offence) .please excuse my diplomacy,i'm just in the mood to argue with anybody.i appreciate that you believe in you're ideas, but anybody is free to expose it's own.thank you!
@rebital Fair enough. Everybody has different musical tastes. Sounds like you enjoy a lighter voice. You might try Kathleen Battle or Sumi Jo. Both of them have much lighter voices than the woman in the Casta Diva video I sent you.
Hmm...let me see if i got this,...this is the song 'Casta Divina' from the opera 'Norma' sung by beautiful Fillipa Giordano in Prague,....beautiful Song, WONDERFUL Images, Prague truly is a most BEAUTIFUL city,...thumbs up to ya Racheli and thankin' our brother Carlinhos for the AWESOME share! = )
@qualqui Casta Diva is not a song. It's an ARIA from the opera Norma. Giordano has not the techinique, voice, or training to sing opera as it was meant to be sung. Pleae understand the difference between pop singers who sing opera arias and real opera singers who sing roles in complete operas...and who have the training and technique to sing opera. All opinions are welcome on YouTube.
@arpeggio1358 many thanx for the info',.....Miss Giordano is a very beautiful voice,...and i can see now how technical opera can be,....alot of difference between your average pop singer. = )
@qualqui I'm sorry, this is still a pop singer who sings opera arias, and not as they were intended to be sung. Please stop the sarcasm long enough to listen to someone like Montserrat Caballe or Beverly Sills sing this, and perhaps you can hear the difference between the performance of a real opera singer and a rendition by a popera performer...and not even a good popera performer. Just my opinion. You're entitled to your opinion, but you should hear other performers before you decide.
@arpeggio1358 Yikes, sorry if i came through with a sarcastic tone,....no,...from what you tell i have ALOT, a mean alot to learn to distinguish between a real opera singer and a popera singer, Miss Giordano,...Montserrat Caballe or Beverly Sills,...oh yeah i remember Beverly Sills, thank you for your sage advice and again i'm very sorry if i came across with a sarcastic tone.
@qualqui No problem. Sometimes, it's hard to hear all the meaning in a comment. I hope you enjoy listening to Caballe and Sills. Also you might like the voices mentioned above by flowersings. This YT user knows voices very well...and knows a lot about singing.
Beyond poor...Let's raise the bar...This aria is one of the most beautiful arias ever composed ...Listen to one of Maria Callas' versions of this aria...Then you will hear a vision of beauty...This version is an insult to this aria.
@AndrzejIsinana44 - best version? This is worst rendition of this aria ever made. She is out of tune and her attempts to be adventurous are hilarious. Bad classical, bad pop, wrong on so many levels.
To all my friends who I have thank for your comment - I forgot to switch the channel from my son to mine - so if you see Renen - it is me - RRacheli - My deep apology !!!
Hello Racheli that beautiful you make it that sensibility but guessed right I like me I am with my videotape that I wait this for San Valentine's day but with the slow thing that I am because I pass the time a lot very well in the details your beautiful videotape shown the details of a theater important thank you a hug much well for you light for all I cripple it light....
I like Praque, I like slow motions, also the aria Casta Diva (watch my upload: INESSA GALANTE ''Casta Diva'' Bellini - DECOR: our garden (Thanks to Campion Records) so what do I want more.

I'd give the URL, but YT won't let a URL link be posted in a comment.
arpeggio1358 9 months ago
@bhhandel Actually, I have to take what I said about her studying chamber music back. I checked her biography, and nowhere is there any mention of any kind of serious training for opera. She had some voice lessons with her mother in both classical technique and pop. This isn't operatic training by any stretch of imagination. As to "benefitting from amplification" - you clearly can't hear the difference betwen amplified and unamplified voice. Some of us can hear it, and it's a huge difference.
jewelmarkess 9 months ago
@jewelmarkess save it. i am a singer, i know a thing ot two about sound.
also, like i said, i've seen world-class singers who i could barely hear over their accompaniment. i would greatly have preferred for them to use a microphone so they could actually have been heard. i just took a friend to see her first opera, and her first reaction was "i'm glad it was subtitled, half the time i could hearly hear the singers".
bhhandel 9 months ago
@bhhandel You might be a singer, but you clearly aren't an opera singer if you don't know that opera singers don't strain to be heard. You know absolutely nothing about operatic technique. Also, if you don't hear the distortion in amplified voices, then something is wrong with your ears.
jewelmarkess 9 months ago
@jewelmarkess no, i'm not an opera singer, but my vocal training has been in classical teqhnique, so yes, i know quite a bit about it.and i've never said that opera singers STRAIN to be heard, i said that in order to be heard over an orchestra you have to observe a certain degree of volume, and very often it seems that it seems difficult for many singers to do that in passages that demand a gentler sound. btw did you react like this when they started using electric light in theatres as well? lol
bhhandel 9 months ago
@bhhandel Training in classical technique is not the same as training to be an opera singer. A lot of pop singers train in the basic of classical technique without being trained for opera. Opera singers are heard just fine when they sing pianissimo, it's not just the issue of being loud. When the passages are soft, the orchestra is soft as well. As to the volume, ever heard about resonance?

@jewelmarkess "Opera singers are heard just fine when they sing pianissimo, it's not just the issue of being loud. When the passages are soft, the orchestra is soft as well"- well, perhaps in an ideal world, but unfortunately not in practice.
bhhandel 9 months ago
@bhhandel About "amplification allowing a singer to focus on nuances" - this is your opinion, and it doesn't have any relation to reality. In fact, opera singers' performances are a lot more nuanced and expressive that popera singers' performances. BTW - in good opera theaters, you can hear very well from back rows. With good technique, projection happens naturally, the singers don't have to think about being heard. You clearly have no clue about operatic technique.
jewelmarkess 9 months ago
@jewelmarkess
well in that case you should blame my teacher, as i have studied it for a couple of years.. anywhoodle, it goes without saying that a singer will need to use a certain degree of volume to be heard all the way to the back row, and this doesn't necessarily allow them to sing as gently as would be ideal in some pieces. this is obviously a matter of principle to you, so i won't expect you to agree, but i greatly prefer a singer to focus on using the vocal expression that allows them
bhhandel 9 months ago
to actually convey the emotion they're going for, rather than to have to think about whether they're actually audible to the entire audience. as for acoustics, i've seen several performances in the hungarian state opera, considered the second- best opera stage in europe, and it was the same problem there. for softer parts of the music, the singers were drowned out.
bhhandel 9 months ago
@bhhandel Well, I've never had this problem in any opera theater I've been to. Again, opera singers are NOT thinking about being heard - it is a natural result of their voices and their singing technique. If a particular singer isn't heard it's either the problem with the conductor or the singers. In terms of emotion, the actual recordings here speak louder than words. Most popera singers performances are completely expressionless, whereas opera singers show a lot o expression.
jewelmarkess 9 months ago
@jewelmarkess well good for you. if you feel that "showing expression" can make up for people not hearing anything, then i guess you're easily pleased. :) i. on the other hand, am not.
and how do you think the recordings here were made? with microphones ;)
bhhandel 9 months ago
@bhhandel Maybe you didn't hear good singers then? The live sound is very different from amplified sound, and some of us can actually hear the difference. Amplification distorts voices. It's also creates a fake feeling as the sound is coming from the speakers and not from the stage and singers. But in reality, there are a lot more problems with this performance than just amplification. BTW, she's never trained as an opera singer, her major was chamber music not opera.
jewelmarkess 9 months ago
@bhhandel By the same token, opera singers who try to sing pop, jazz, rock, etc should be judged by the same standards as the singers in those genres. Most opera singers fail dismally at singing anything other than opera or classical. The two notable exceptions were Eileen Farrell and Benjamin Luxon. They both sang in many different styles and did it beautifully. (Part 2)
arpeggio1358 10 months ago
While miss Giordano is a good pop singer, her voice is just not suited to opera or popera. Her tone is too breathy and she doesn't have enough vibrato. I am glad that she is allowing others to enjoy arias, but I do hope her fans will also listen to real opera singers such as Anna Netrebko, Ruth Ann Swenson, Kathleen Battle, Renee Fleming, Beverly Sills, Lucia Popp, etc. to hear the difference in voice. I wish her all the best!
flowersings 1 year ago
@flowersings Great suggestions for recordings to listen to. I think Swenson has one of the most beautiful and beautifuly trained voices ever. Battle's voice also has great beauty fo tone and elegance.

@flowersings , maybe you can't make the difference on soprano, mezzo-soprano, alto, tenor, baritone, bass, countertenor and castrato.all these are opera singers types :)
rebital 8 months ago
@rebital Yes they are. Have you listened to any examples of these types in opera? Just because someone is a soprano, mezzo soprano, alto, tenor, bass, contralto ( a woman's lowest voice), doesn't mean that they are an opera singers. To be an opera singer, you have to produce your sound properly, exercise proper technique, but most importantly, you have to have a good enough voice. Giordano has none of these things. She is simply singing an aria very poorly.
flowersings 8 months ago
@rebital There are other soprano types in opera such as stratospheric, lyric, dramatic, and spinto. All of which can be coloraturas. I'm training in opera, so I know a lot about this or I wouldn't comment. I don't claim to know a lot about economics or politics, so I would never argue those things, but I do know a lot about voice. You'll just have to trust me. Before I knew a lot about voice I was just like you and thought if someone could sing an aria they were an opera singer.
flowersings 8 months ago
@rebital Listen to some of the opera singers in my comment you replied to or listen to Angela Gheorghiu Casta Diva. There's a world of difference! After you have listened to at least one of these singers, then we'll talk again.:)
Happy yt listening and God bless!!
flowersings 8 months ago
@flowersings if those singers you've mentioned above have other kind of voices, doesn't means that Fillipa Giordano (who seems to sing an aria of the famous Norma) is not an opera singer.if she wasn't,she would never sing it !
rebital 8 months ago
@flowersings Do you have any training or education in classical voice? Trust me, she is no opera singer!!! She would never survive in an opera!!! Anybody can sing the words to an aria, but she doesn't even have an operatic voice!!! She would be laughed off the stage in an opera competition. She's a bad classical crossover singer- that's all!!! You need to listen to some real opera singers. When you do, you'll hear the difference!! Until then, this argument is futile!
flowersings 8 months ago
@flowersings Opera singers have to go through years of rigorous training. Most of them have a degree in vocal performance and a masters in music. Giordano doesn't even have basic voice training. She doesn't even hit half her pitches. Her high notes are some of the worst I've ever heard! She doesn't even breathe correctly. I don't want to be rude, but she is a joke in the opera world!! No one can stand to listen to her! It's okay if you like, but she IS NOT an OPERA SINGER!
flowersings 8 months ago
@flowersings there are different ways to sing any aria, and differnt interprets may varry the way of acting.if you'll see all the videos about Casta Diva, you'll not find two song identicly perfomed.if you think you can sing better,go ahead! (no offence) .please excuse my diplomacy,i'm just in the mood to argue with anybody.i appreciate that you believe in you're ideas, but anybody is free to expose it's own.thank you!
rebital 8 months ago
@flowersings ps:i've already watched the other version, this one sound so much better for me! :D
rebital 8 months ago
@rebital Fair enough. Everybody has different musical tastes. Sounds like you enjoy a lighter voice. You might try Kathleen Battle or Sumi Jo. Both of them have much lighter voices than the woman in the Casta Diva video I sent you.
Happy yt listening and God bless!

All opinions are welcome on YouTube.
arpeggio1358 1 year ago
@arpeggio1358 many thanx for the info',.....Miss Giordano is a very beautiful voice,...and i can see now how technical opera can be,....alot of difference between your average pop singer. = )
qualqui 1 year ago
@qualqui I'm sorry, this is still a pop singer who sings opera arias, and not as they were intended to be sung. Please stop the sarcasm long enough to listen to someone like Montserrat Caballe or Beverly Sills sing this, and perhaps you can hear the difference between the performance of a real opera singer and a rendition by a popera performer...and not even a good popera performer. Just my opinion. You're entitled to your opinion, but you should hear other performers before you decide.
arpeggio1358 1 year ago
@arpeggio1358 Yikes, sorry if i came through with a sarcastic tone,....no,...from what you tell i have ALOT, a mean alot to learn to distinguish between a real opera singer and a popera singer, Miss Giordano,...Montserrat Caballe or Beverly Sills,...oh yeah i remember Beverly Sills, thank you for your sage advice and again i'm very sorry if i came across with a sarcastic tone.
qualqui 1 year ago
@qualqui No problem. Sometimes, it's hard to hear all the meaning in a comment. I hope you enjoy listening to Caballe and Sills. Also you might like the voices mentioned above by flowersings. This YT user knows voices very well...and knows a lot about singing.
arpeggio1358 1 year ago
Beyond poor...Let's raise the bar...This aria is one of the most beautiful arias ever composed ...Listen to one of Maria Callas' versions of this aria...Then you will hear a vision of beauty...This version is an insult to this aria.
