  • One Of The Best - Heartbreakers <3

  • beautiful song. Dionne is such a good vocalist. She is one of the singers whose songs are not played enough on radio

  • oh my, this was the year i was born

  • Her voice was great in 1964 but hearing her sing hearing her sing heartbreaker in the 80s just blows me away.

  • @Desiree50able Heartbreaker was a great tune. Love it.

  • Produced by angels - divine!

  • WELL REMEMBERD FROM MY DAYS IN THOSE GREAT 60S TERRIFIC SONG !!!!!

  • I'm breathless. She is the best, along with Dusty Springfield and Aretha Franklin.

  • command performance at its best.

  • Kto tu z kawałka "Moje szczęście" Pokoju z Widokiem na wojnę?

  • one of the greatest vocalist ever..should be manatory for every wanabe singer to listen to her work...when to sing and when to SHUT UP......she always honors the song not herself when she sings...a much needed lesson for most of the "loud mouths" out there ......

  • In Australia, at this time, the ties were closer to the UK than the US,so you would imagine Cilla would have got the go ahead on the playlists. There was just one big difference!!Dionne warwicks version had more emotion, more depth-basically just better(although Cilla did a pretty close copy) and radio stations across the country went with the DW take.Dionne had a string of hits to follow over here and visited our shores to perform on several occasions.jk from Sydney

  • this was my first girlfriends song, she taught me how to kiss, thank you leah, whereever you are

  • Ohh gosh I feel exactly like this song. sometiems I just don't understand how my BF could not love me or hold me when i'm right in front of him begging him to...

  • I was born the year this totally awesome song was released...and wow! Nothing like this crap today. 2 great things happened in '64...hahaha..

  • The voice of an angel. Amazing!

  • I was captivated by her style and voice as I was Diana Ross'

  • Is that John Williams with Dionne at 2:10? It could be because they both worked on Valley of the Dolls. Cool!

  • MAGIC

  • Purely magical songwriting!

  • Ah, Dionne! True, not an R&B singer per se, but when I got her "Soulful" (right title?) album in the early seventies, her selections were a wonderful entrance into the R&B world.

To this day, she remains a total original.

  • What an awesome talent this beautiful lady is, thank you posting this great song!!

  • This is a great song with a bunch of great versions on the web--Dionne, Cilla Black, Dusty Springfield and Petula Clark (in French). Can't decide which I like best, although the sweetness in Dionne's voice makes the ending even more bitter. The chords at the end--tonic alternating with flat submediant, is a huge masterstroke which highlights the dispair at the end.

  • @joncheskin They were all good, and compared to the current music scene they were magnificent.

  • such a beautiful song. She sung it best.

  • some say they love when they rarely do

i love with my whole soul and i regret it but i cant stop

its the best and worst sensation thinking of someone 24/7

findin yourslef crying when you dont really cry..

and finally let all that emotion go to waste

  • Hey dude, your video is beautiful, i loved the photos, this song really expresses the strong desire of love...

  • ANYONE WHO KNEW I LOVED AND LOST TOO MANEY,I HOPE THERE WILL BE A DAY I SEE THEM???

  • Probably the most powerful, majestic broken hearted song of the entire 60s. Almost operatic in its drama and its compositional ingenuity. Bacharach-David were a true legendary writing team and neither were as good writing on their own or with someone else. With singers like Dionne Warwick for their material, they had the perfect situation to create timeless pop music. Also the production on this tune for 1963 standards is spellbinding.

  • So beautiful.

  • I truly believe someone who wrote this song "heart was rip out of the chest" it is one of the most painful written words of a broken heart!!!!!!! I live this : .( Was it hal david or bert? someone tell me what you think? Just as artist paint their pain so does a song writer, and this song is something else I had a woman I knew she would play all of the songs written by hal and bert and song by dionne she play over and over again and she drank from this pain, to try and stop her hurt!!!!!!

  • This is my favorite Dionne Warwick song of all her hits. Thanks for sharing this great golden oldie.

  • Greatness is used to describe the talent of some artists and often times is misused. In this case the trio of Bacharach, David and the incomparable Ms. Dionne will forever in my book live as the most dynamic lyricist, composer, and singer! Dionne kills this vocal with so much conviction and vulnerability. I absolutely love it! ...anyone who had a heart would love me tooooo, yeah, anyone who had a heart would surely take me, in his arms and, always love me, why won't you? Golden!

  • I had the whole album 3 records thanks mom...I should have listened to you (walk away, before its to deep) or treat myself less then the one who broke me!!!! i miss you..R.I.P mother of(12) passed at birth....

  • Just because I thought it was a cool item, I bought a "portable" HiFi system from 1961 at a thrift store, back in 1995. Peach-coloured, its speakers flipped open on either side (or were detachable for farther placements), and the turntable could be folded down in the front for record playing. In it was the 45 r.p.m. single of this song. I remember playing it, and really LISTENING to the song.. the whole recording. When that saxophone solo started, it made me get goosebumps.

  • you know teana taylor looks just like dionne...biopic?...teana can sing!

  • 8 people didn't have a heart.

  • Real music, REAL instruments!!

  • Real Music, Real Instruments.....what the SIXTIES are all about...

    GREAT MUSIC!!

  • The music is haunting beautiful.

  • I saw the picture of Dionne with Liz Taylor. Speaking of which, I was flabbergasted when I read that Liz's fortune was around 600 million dollars! I just assumed that she had maybe only a couple of million or so, what with her paling around with Michael Jackson and all.

  • Thanks! One of my faves from long ago. So lyrical, so expressive...and the music!!

  • Girl on Australia's got talent did an awesome job singing this

  • Ich liebe dieses Lied!

  • When we wake up to the truth of life, inspired music like this will emerge and flourish again, and all the uninspired crap that people call "music" these days will fade away and be forgotten. Search "Truth Contest" in Google and click the 1st result, then open The Present and read what it says to learn the truth of life.

  • great !!

    Khalifa from Oman

  • much better than the Cilla Black version - Cilla sounds like a cat stuck in a tree

  • I agree about Dionne's back up singers which usually consisted of her sister Dee Dee and cousin Cissy Houston who I think is the one hitting those high notes and other family members. Dionne's family were all talented vocaly and it continues to this day for one of her sons sings with her live and he has an amazing voice.

  • beautifully done this was a classic song she did it well!

  • After hearing a few of the covers of this song by other artists, they can't hold a candle to Dionne's version. She so fluid with the lyrics, she sings them so smooth, as where others have to much pronounciation on each syllable. I'm not totally knocking the other versions, but Dionne's is THE version.

  • I love the fact that this song was used in the 1988 movie The In Crowd. It's not out on DVD but it is available for instant viewing on Netflix. It's used for a few seconds towards the beginning but used again in a better scene towards the end. That movie is what made me fall in love with this song after years of searching for the both of them.

  • GREAT SONG!!

  • Perfect Song!!

  • Man, this tune is just too cool. Dionne, baby!

  • one of Dionne's best, always loved it!!....thanks for posting this...

  • this is one of my favorite dionne songs. i was in jr.high school when this first came out. she is truly a great artist, and has done such great songs over the years. thank you sososo much for posting!!!!

  • mi da' i brividi

  • :( this is how i feel rite now..

  • For me this song its the most beautiful song ever written. Love Dionne Warwick.

  • Love, love this song. On this one, like several others I have I get every, single one I can. Don't want to risk someone closing up shop and losing some of these great songs. Dionne Warwick is definitely at the uppermost echelons of the music world. What a voice - what a delivery. Thank you for this great post.

  • i love the slow melancholy saxophone..does anyone know any songs that have the sax like in this amazing song? please???

  • I don't know, If you could say this was a cross over hit. When it started out on both sides. Great tune.

  • What a hauntingly beautiful song. Will love it forever. It gives me goosebumps.

  • I love when she says " what am I to do"

  • @Kennedysuxx I love it when she sings.

  • Preceded by some great tunes ("Anyday Now" and "Baby It's You" come to mind), the second of three out-and-out r'n'b masterpieces by Bacharach/David, performed by their dream stylist, DW.

  • best verion imo, maybee because this was the version i heard first.

  • The sax @ 1:41 pure bliss

  • I just listened to the big three on this one - Dusty, Cilla and Dionne. I honestly can't remember which one I grew up with. However, my voting right now goes like this: Dionne 1, Dusty 2, Cilla 3. My preference for Dionne is partly based on her vocal, but I also think that the arrangement is superior. But that's just my opinion!!

  • This song gives me chills everytime I hear it.

  • Cissy Houston did background on this it sounds like. Cissy can sound very angelic in her younger days.....she was very unique in that way. Cissy was easily recognizable out of all background singers.....remember her angelic touch to Aretha's 'Ain't No Way'. Cissy,Dionne,DeeDee and yes Whitney are all very outstanding vocalist. They all in their own ways left a mark on the music world forever. Cissy even sung background for Elvis.

  • 5 people don't have a heart...

  • Heart-wrenching song. Only Dionne could sing like that. Don't hear "music" like this nowadays, do we?

  • My torso cant help but sway in tortured saddness..........

  • @TheGmgirl77 OMG Mine too :)

  • @DaStr8Truth: Your comment is so beautiful,i actually can picture what you said in my mind.

  • I guess there are 5 people who have never had their heart broken.

When this song came out it was SO different in timing, chords...and that incredible voice and FEELING of Dionne's interpretation of the words.

A CLASSIC of my teenage years. Thank you for this posting.

  • This song is like a breeze brushing against your cheek

while thinking of someone you love.

  • When people think of the sixties they think of sex, drugs, rock and roll and Vietnam. But Dionne Warkwick's fantastic voice singing the brilliant songs of Bacarach and David were a big part of the sixties. In a racist society she was so admired for her talent and for her classy, sophisticated look that she actually helped create a mindshift.

  • I love the purety of her voice here....she was really gifted. Her voice reminds me of a perfect spring day, just riding in the car with the sunroof wide open without a care in the world.

  • MERCI BIEN..Sa voix restera à jamais un trésor ....un bijou sans prix....

  • COMO PARA ESCUCHARLA MIRANDO HACIA LA VENTANA EN UN DIA NUBLADO...

  • I absolutely love this song; it's downright haunting.

  • This song is sooo sad. It can bring you to tears when alone

  • I once heard a guy playing the tenor sax solo from this song in an underground car park and it sounded exactly like the one on the record with the same slight echo effect, now whenever I hear the song I think of the busker and the car park!

  • Nothing need be said beyond - Dionne Warwick! Thank you for a fantastic post.

  • im confused now... from who was this song originally? Dionne; Cilla or Dusty..?

  • @guardianofretro The tune was written for Dionne Warwick in 1963. Her version came first. Cilla and Dusty covered the tune. If you want more info on the origins of the tune, you may expand the information.

  • @dibotis Ty for the info. All the 3 versions sound good BTW.

  • @guardianofretro I always thought it was just Linda Ronstadt :X

  • I remember singing this song with tears streaming down my face when i was younger now that i look back i realise i didnt know true love untill now and listening now i can really appreciate it because ive experienced real love and experienced real heart break

  • Thanks for putting this song on you tube... Dionne was the best.

  • Dionne W. voice was "all hands down" the best of the best of all time.

  • her voice is like a Stradivarius , a really good one too .

  • was in a relationship with a guy i work with for 2 months. they were the best 2 months of my life, which says alot coming from me a 32 yr old. it was 9/20/10 - 11/23/10 ...it was perfect, i thought he was the one, then just like that he dropped me! Now i have to see him every other day at work and it is heartbreaking!! Anyways seems like Dionne has more songs i can relate to in this manner than anyone else!

  • WONDERFUL DIONNE SINGER VERY VERY GOOD THANKS YOU FOR VIDEO

  • The only Dionne tunes I've heard were the one's she did in the 80's, I loooo e Luther's rendition of this but Dionne's is so classic!! Stunning!

  • My ABSOLUTE favorite Dionne Warwick & Burt Bacharach collaboration ever! I first heard it in the mid 80's from my friend Jeff, who had a homemade mixed cassette tape of all Dionne songs. Remember listening and loving this haunting tune in the ol' Miss Cougar on those summer Denver afternoons. Good times.

  • I love the way Dione adlibs the "yeahs" at the end...

  • do I like her's or luther's better?

  • When I was very young I made a nightmare and it take several days to go away.At this time the radio gave the hit of Dionne Warwick.I should never forget this song.

But today i can appreciate her marvellous voice.

  • I think I prefer the version Cilla Black did the best, but this is actually SO different and also well amazing! Dionne just has a completely different kind of voice, so gentle, soft, and soulful, where is Cilla's for example is more 'drama' and edgy (not sure that's the right word). Still loving this too!

  • @weightfeather1

Couldn't agree more. At 2:24 most singers would be fading fast. Dionne is pouring on the coal. Anyone in the studio would be looking for something to hold on to. What power! That's what makes stars.

  • A great cut. Thanks for posting this!

  • this is beautiful

  • Dionne did this song justice.

  • I sense a potential glee song!!

  • Alltime classic!! First meeting with Warwick was this song..biking home from highschool on a dark winter's day I passed a tiny record store in Copenhagen; the owner was playing the song on his grammo...!!! I rushed in: "What's this" and he smiled. He had imported some few exemplars especially for his store. Yep biked home proudly with Warwick's masterpiece, and it was on my grammo each morning that winter :)

  • Great songwriting and a great singer = bliss.

  • Love this song . It evokes so many memories!!

  • This era of music was so simple and pure and the songs were not overdone with so much vocal gymnastics, which i think ruins the song. Singers of today do too much to a song and in music less really is more. I love this and i thank you for posting it.

  • She is one of a kind, as the poster remarks. Her vocal gifts were perfectly suited to the material that Bachrach and David were creating. Moreover, she transformed it into something unique. If you hear attempted recreations or revisions of the material by other vocalists you realize how incredible Dionne's work is.

  • This song is sooo deep i love it!!!!!

  • @Ireaves777: No dear it goes like this, Warwick and Bacharach and David------Wow!

  • nobody can do this song as good as her lol

  • Wow, 1963!!! I think this song is absolute perfection in every way. It makes you want to slow dance with someone special. Thank you for a beautiful post.

  • A beautiful classic song and it was likely the first song I ever heard her sing

  • Dionne Warwick at her best

    Beautiful

  • Anyone who had a heart woulld love this song !

  • Touching song. I loved it when Luther Vandross sang it. But now he can move aside. I love this version, the original, better. Forever Dionne.

  • I love her!

  • What the...? 2 people dislike this...?! Are you mental?

  • @940kenneth EXACTLY lol

  • She is so original, no one can sing so real, so soft, so tender, gentle, so feminine, no wonder Burt and Hal wrote for her, and they all made careers from the relationship. Songs Girls grew up listening to, these messages, back when girls didn't call boys, and lived so much heartbreak inside themselves, wow I remember sitting listening to stacks of her records.

  • @asgabeler That's a good comment, it is a sad song. However, teenagers will always suffer heartache, but perhaps now they are better able to express themselves, they are more sophisticated about their emotional life and more empowered.

  • Yes! finally found the track. thank you!!

I was checking my father jazz collection and fall in love with this song. I didn't even know it was the original track, but I did not like the other version as much as this one. Now I can finally enjoy this song at work. Again thank you!

  • Bacharach and David and Warwick ----- Wow!

  • Have anyone heard Linda Ronstadt verison of this song?Even though i like them both.Cheers

  • @Zodist Yes Yes great also

  • Janeshe 2 says: i love the end........

Anyone who had a heart would TAKE ME IN HIS ARMS AND ALWAYS LOVE ME WHY DON'T YOU!!!

  • Dionne interprets Bacharach/David songs with pure soul. She is in a class by herself.

  • Lovely subtle version of this classic. At 1:10 she looks just like Whitney Houston at that age! Amazing.

  • @screenwitch This isn't really a version, she's the original recording artist. Bacharach and David wrote this song for Dionne who recorded it in one take. This is that version.

  • @alteregosuzy I'm not suprised. Dionne is just too good a singer. But to be honest, I thought this tune was a Luther original. I was wrong. Boy was I wrong. Recorded in one take. That takes true talent.
