"tricks" ?? just good shots not tricks. Ive played badminton about 20 years and i dont define these as tricks at all just clips of professionals pulling off good shots and showing skill...
That last clip was impressive though, ive had games where everything comes back at you as if fate is over the net saying No way sunshine this isnt your day.
lol at the people who have put 'how are these trick shots?' and 'not beyond any reasonable amatuer player.' clearly you haven't a scooby. to do these shots under the pressue, as accuratley as they are and at the pace of the game to that level, is something special otherwise trick shots would be done 24/7 by all players but they aren't as they are hard and risky due to possible error. and yes it can involove wrong footing your opponent, hence the term deception.
How're these trick shots? They're all either tactical play (badfooting your opponent/short drops) or simple, but effective, slice hits. All well executed but not beyond any reasonable amateur player. At their level (soooo high) fitness, agility and hand/eye coordination make the difference 'tween winner and loser.
Alot of badminton players and commentators use the word "trick" instead of "deceptive" in describing a shot that wrongfoots an opponent.
I would tend to somewhat disagree with you about what makes the difference between a winning or losing player at the highest level. Of course conditioning and footwork is huge but many top european singles players have this (Persson, Jørgensen), but are lacking in deception... leaving them sitting ducks against the highly deceptive asians.
@mercyflush101 foot work and all is the most important. Trick shots are only useful once in a while during a game because an opponent will not fall for it everytime. Also, u dun do trick shots unless your winning by alot or ur facing a player not as good as u. Deception is'nt as important as u think. The only reason why their falling for this is because their 2 in2 the game, they forgot to wait. This usually happens when the enemy is more skilled then u, that's when the enemy does trick shots.
@otakusama17 Please reread my comment again because you completely misunderstood it. I said footwork is key in becoming a top player, however i used the example of a player like Jørgensen, whom has excellent footwork and technique but however lacks deception in his play. Watch this guy play he is very good, but he does not hold the shuttle before contact, leaving his play somewhat predictable (hence exploitable) watch him play lin dan with all his deceptive shots crush him in the china open.
@otakusama17.. watch - China Super Series 2009 - MS Finals - Lin Dan vs Jan Jorgensen - 1/4 ... check out the shot at 1:40, lin dan hits a deceptive shot (not trick shot) by holding the shuttle in the air and striking it at the latest moment by brushing across the feathers, it looked to his opponent that he was going to clear by the way he shaped up for the shot. That shot lead to a weak return which lin dan put to the ground. Jorgensen with all his great footwork dosent have that in his game.
@mercyflush101 Huh, he didnt win the point because of that shot, he won it because after the gun returned it and he returned it, when the guy who did the trick shot returned it, his opponent was too into the game (liek i said before) and thought he predicted where the birdie would go, but he got tricked.
@otakusama17 Your whole comment literally made no sense. Its obvious english isnt your first language so its ok. Lets just agree to disagree, although i know im right.
@mercyflush101 lol im not arguing and i dun care, it was just tips if you actually play badminton, i would know since i am the top 15 in my province. But you dont have to make my advice, play however you want.
@otakusama17 Im sorry, I must have mist the part where you gave me tips or advice!?? What makes Lin Dan better than Jan Jorgensen? Jorgensen is known to have some of the best footwork in the game today, aswell as being one of the best athletes. No clear weaknesses in his game. Lin Dan however tears him to shreads mainly due to his deception like the point i asked you to watch. Deception is what makes the difference between a top quality national player and world beaters, simple as.
@Milandermaybe im sorry but you dont make any sense dude. Are you saying that only bad/horrible players fall for trick shots and the good / olympic players never fall for them?

2. Even the ones that were didn't all fetch points;
3. Music's very distracting.

yeah accuracy, speed and good wrist movement...these guys master all badminton moves, and they can afford trickshots
yes it is service fault at 1.29.. one continous forward motion for any serve...
rain28 2 years ago
that last game must have been intense lol
Aznthuglife 2 years ago
first of all, no need to swear and insult me.
second of all, a flick serve is not illegal, which I assume is what you are referring to.
There is a law (9.2) that says there must only be ONE forward motion
9.2 Once the players are ready for the service, the first forward movement of the server's racket head shall be the start of the service.
This service clearly goes back, forward, back and then forward again which is clearly a fault.

You can't really curve a shuttlecock, but you can disguise your intention by making it look like you're trying to do a diffrent kind of shot.
I works because you have very little reaction time in badminton - you may only have to deceive you opponent for a second :)
