No. Low reps and more reps is just cardio with weights if it's too light. Heavy weight (you can manage) and low reps build muscular tension and in turn definition.
i stretch my biceps then i start off light.. then go heavy.. i used to start heavy then go light.. and both way have made me sore.. but right now the light then heavy works best... you'll see that you always have to change it around...
getting big and defined has to do more with your diet and cardio. As for training, experiment with various reps, sets, and weight ranges. Some people respond best to low reps and heavy weight(80-90% 1 rep max) while others get better results from moderately heavy weight(65-80% 1 rep max) and more reps.
To get defined you need big muscles + low bodyfat. To get muscles you use lower reps and heavier weights. To lose fat you diet and maintain lifting weights so your body doesn't lose muscle. To gain muscle you need to eat excess calories which will gain you a little fat as well, but don't listen to anyone who says you can gain muscle and gain zero fat 'cause it isn't true. You bulk and then cut. The only thing that should change that much is your diet.
I'd say you should concentrate on the negative also. You just lift them up and let them drop...not what you want to do. Controlling the weight is much more beneficial then letting momentum/gravity take it. The second thing is that there is no such thing as spot reduction. So just doing crunches won't make you get a 6-pack but, concentrate on your nutrition.
yeah you got good bi's keep up the good work. i was curling 30's but then suddenly dropped down to 25's dunno why, but keep it up, and do some crunches while you're at it! lol
irspiderman, more reps tones the muscle. If you want size, manicbassa is completely correct. If you shock your muscles by going heavy, you tear them in a different way than continously doing repetitive reps. In response your body builds that muscle bigger and stronger to combat the aggressor.
nice work man i liek the weight and i liek the reps but im not likeing the swinging so bend one knee and step forward on one foot and then curl so u dotn swing ur boddy so u got better form and better muscle building keep up the good work:)
nice, you make them look light,im 16 and i can do 35lbs dumbells but not as easy as that,i'd do 20-25 lbs as easy as that.
BTW i think hes going to fast,my gym teacher said to go slow when doin weights because youre just letting gravity bring the weight down on the triceps.
is he bending his back too much?
also check out his forearm muscle!
how did you build that muscle to be so defined?

probably because you started too heavy.
try first warmup with 20s, then 25 next set, then 30 next. It might help.
Gzpninja 4 years ago
just another tip: warm up is 50% of weight you normally use at 15 reps.
