@superfawful65 OK, I had to Google Furries: Furries are a relatively recent phenomenon which has been catapulted into near-mainstreamness almost solely because of the internet. It is obvious furries are very much victims of tarring the majority with the brush of an "unappealing" minority. In the simplest sense furries are fans of anthropromorphic animals. That is, animals with human like features or tendencies...
@TheGlendini Unfortunately, you are probably the kind of owner who spreads the word about why monkey ownership is positive- RESEARCH SHOWS OWNING NONHUMAN PRIMATES AS PETS IS DETRIMENTAL. There is no way around it. In the wild do Capuchin build a house and have human companions? NO. Why? Because that is maladaptive behavior for these animals. Thinking of a monkey as a pet or as a "child" is selfish and immoral, as well as cruel for the animal. You need to further educate yourself.
And the people that day that they can't be house trained, um, do you live under a rock? Capuchin monkeys have the largest brains of all apes in relation to their size! They can be TOUGHT not trained do do almost anything.
They getting back to the statement about that it is not if, but when the monkey will bite or attack. Does this mean that all the disabled people that are using Capuchin monkeys as aid will be further
@TheGlendini Just a point of clarification...a capuchin monkey is not an ape. You should know this if you have one. Yes, they have huge relative brain size - this actually works against them being "taught" in captivity as they think for themselves and resist being trained. This intelligence coupled with an energetic and rambunctious personality is why capuchin monkeys and chimpanzees (who are apes) are especially dangerous as pets.
@TheGlendini EDUCATED people know that primates will probably never be domesticated. Maybe because they'll all die out because we are killing them through the pet trade. Breeders are in it for the money, that is it. If you or any other monkey owner cared about the well being of these animals, you would do research and find nothing else but information showing the detrimental effects of nonhuman pet ownership.
@TheGlendini Jungle Friends should be YOUR friend, because they are looking to enhance the well being of nonhuman primates. However, you are not looking to do that. You are owning a nonhuman primate as a pet to fill an empty void in your life. Nonhuman primates are much more intelligent than dogs, and saying that they will become "domesticated" is the same as saying humans will become "domesticated" in that we can own another human as a pet or slave. It's just wrong.
@TheGlendini Furthermore, disabled people should not be encouraged to "use"/ EXPLOIT these animals, just as nobody else should, and like you are doing. You may deny it, but the reason you are so defensive is probably because deep down you know it is true. Your monkey would absolutely rather be in the wild or with another Capuchin than living with you. The pet trade of nonhuman primates is wrong, dangerous and detrimental. THE END.
I understand that this whole speech was based on monkeys that were born in the wild, from wild parents. I do think that is very wrong and needs stopping.
Buying a monkey as a pet from a breeder who's parents and their parents up to quite a few generations up were born and bred in captivity ARE and will be domesticated. I also say that the statement about you are then stealing babies from mothers should be retracted as it would then be wrong to buy any baby animal in
@TheGlendini I am a primatologist who has studied capuchin monkeys, both in the wild and captivity, for 12 years. A captive primate is NOT domesticated-the domestication process can take hundreds of years for some species, if not longer. Keeping dogs and cats as pets is different - they are truly domesticated and will be killed in shelters due to overpopulation if not adopted. A captive primate WILL attack, it's just a matter of when. And yes, this includes those kept by disabled people.
@TheGlendini When you buy a monkey from a breeder, you are still stealing the baby from its rightful parent, and that is WRONG! And NO, they are not domesticated, educate yourself, it took 10,000 years to turn wolves into dogs, monkeys are still monkeys, sorry, but you do not have an argument for stealing baby monkeys, even puppies and kittens are weaned before being sold, not so with monkeys, they are stolen as early as just 3 days old!!!
We have a matching grant right now, so any donation you make to Jungle Friends will be DOUBLED! Please make a donation today. Lots of monkey love, Kari and the monks
wow thats really sad.. Because the monkey gets self knowledge and probably attacks the mf when they try to have sex with them. I wouldnt be suprised that just sounds really WEIRD. I mean bubbles was cute but we hope that Mj didnt have sex with the dam monke
i cant believe the utter ignorance and selfishness of people who want monkeys as pets! i absolutely hate monkeys but still feel sorry for them. they belong in the wild, period ! they cannot be house trained and are not good around kids they piss and shit everywhere, christ people are stupid!
I would feel better if people would stop stealing baby monkeys from their natural mothers :-(, humans are simply no substitute! If you haven't watched National Geographic's Wild Chronicles about little Tessa who came to us when she was nearly dead with diabetes, you should watch it, you can find it on the Jungle Friends Primate Sanctuary website under Monkeys in the Media.
Of course, my main concern is not if or when a monkey bites a human, my concern is for the mother monkey who gave birth to the baby and has her baby stolen from her to be someone's 'pet'!
Stealing babies is wrong no matter how you look at it. Capuchin monkeys will live on their mother's back and nurse for up to two years. They are usually stolen at 3 days old to several weeks old! I doubt you will find any mothers who feel that it is alright to steal another mother's baby!
@TheGlendini Get back to me in a few years with a report!

@WonderWomanFan4life Evolution does not say that humans came from monkeys. That is presenting evolution as a ladder, not as a branch.

I believe it is the type of monkey. I respect the jungle friends lady but I dont believe ALL monkey will attack some breeds are calmer than others.

@Armandocoolio Monkeys are not "breeds", they are species. And no monkey or ape is adapted to live in a human environment.

you definitely do not want a monkey as a pet. I was bit in the face by a spider monkey a few months ago. They are vicious.
