  • I seen this guy fiddling in Santa ponsa in the shamrock bar!

  • bravo... ese grupo es genial, sobre todo el violinista. bravooooo.

  • This on iTunes?

  • @bobdull6699

this is one of the few recordings that I know of by these guys

  • Superb - my hat is doffed! I used to get a bo}{ocking for holding my bow like that - when it felt so natural and balanced. Wish I could've shown my violin teacher this vid, and said, "there you are, what's wrong with THAT"!!! Shared and faved. :o)

  • This is amazing, I wish I could go to a concert like this

  • :O

  • Aww Hell'naw!

  • irlandeses de seguro+}

  • Awesome! Love it!

  • Savage stuff! I remember seeing Mark Oates playing with Colin O' Donnell in the Cock n' Bull, I still have the CD! I think their version of Nancy Spain is better than Christie's, especially cos of Mark's gorgeous fiddle playing on the "with the birds" line.

  • Auh...May...Zing...

  • GRANDI!! BRAVO IL VIOLINISTA...GREAT!!!

  • he's holding the bow wrong lol. but very good otherwise.

  • absolutley AWESOME>> sick nasty

  • Incredible. Quite enjoyable io the listener; but can you imagine folks trying to dance some set to that tempo? You'd beter have the defibrillator ready. Wow! Thanks for posting this.

  • are you guys still playing together, i would love to see more. still love playing this

  • GREAT!!!! ^^

  • we need to play together man! I play irish fiddle too!

  • he's good but he's no charlie daniels

  • He can't be human. Humans don't play like that o.O

  • Your right - he's a p r o f e s s i o n a l .. !

  • were they improvised at the time?....awesomely~~ i want to play like that !! tell me how, PLEASE!!

  • very yammi....!

  • that was....wow....

  • pluss, you played Great!

  • LOL FreeA - you'd better be a good musician giving advice like that !!

  • I have 2 rules for you.

the 1st rule is that your hand pisition of the bow wasn't right. The 2nd rule is the you finger whas straight at the start but your fingers had to be bended.

Why did you played the violin with that hand pos. on the bow?

  • Maybe he's more comfortable playing like that? I honestly know nothing of fiddles yet but it sounds perfect to me, can the way you hold the bow fuck up the sound at all?

  • where your hand is on the bow doesn't affect the sound at all, it's just for comfort.

  • @ooronkennedy i would have to disagree with that. you an coax more out of the violin if your hand is placed properllyon the bow. not sayin this guy isnt good of course, but he may be even better...although that could be my classical training talking

  • @Evongelo - I'm also a classically trained violinist. I've spoken with many irish fiddlers and they believe that this is a superior bow hold for the extensive use of double stops that is standard in irish music. I've also met numerous skilled classical players who will switch to this bow hold as soon as they begin irish fiddling.

I'm not saying I entirely agree (I'm also classically biased), but the bow hold can't be considered "wrong" or "improper", just different.

  • @RSVPBlogger

I can see your point, it's just you can't possibly get the full reach out of your bow with a hold like that. but perhaps it achieves other things which work best for Gaelic music. eh, what ever, to each his own

  • Excellent! That gives envy(urge) to dance!

    I like what you make!

  • This is good bar fightin' music.

  • @DietTimboSlice i can totally see two druken guys getting into and then the whole bar while these four guys are on stage still playing lol. good comment

  • I'm in love. o.o

  • Unless you're in a pub playing to plastered punters whose attention span from week to week is...

  • love that comment, plastered punters. LOL love that tune. shame your not together. one of my early favs on YT.

  • Oh he can play slow and tuneful incredible as well. Check out on his part on Handasyd Williams' single "A Patented Trapping". All his own lines and absolutely brilliant!

  • @PilgrimBrown whatcha talking about ? this is best version on youtube of this song!

and the tempo is great and fun to listed as it is played very acurate.

  • Whoaa. Amazing!!

  • The guy in the red shirt looks like Gerry O'Brien, the actor from "Terror from Mars". Nice music lads.

  • Have you got the fucking time you cracked bitch!

  • i think this band are brilliant, this is one of my favourites. keep playing over and over again. thanks guys.

  • LOL soo.. performing a skill honed over, say, 15 years, is wanking, and improving ones physical appearance by weightlifting is umm.. oh, never mind.

  • LMAO!!! At least you took the time to watch my video and I'm grateful for that!!!!

Their musical ability is excellent. I've seen them play many times. The guitar/singer Dave is a fine musicial as well.

  • Well met. very funny.

I've worked with Dave a lot - a think he is a good artist, actually.

I'm the other *other* violinist they sometimes use. I'll get to see you around I guess.

    Ak

  • Absolutely! Am I right in saying that Dave and Side Show Bob are the regular Band members, whilst they have 4 others who play at different times together? Dave is a fine guitar player and Steve is quite handly too. I remember one night they played such a fantastic tune it brought the whole of Sydney in! Good luck with the music and keep it rocking!

  • As 'Finn McCool', the band doesn't really work together anymore. I am still trying to figure out who you mean by Side Show Bob.

    Ak

  • sometimes holding the bow more towards the middle allows for faster play because its less weight at the tip. so the player can alternate between strings even quicker

  • the bass player(steve) is ma tutor.lolz.worth the money XD

  • AweSome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • What pickup and amp is the fiddle player using?

  • LR Baggs

Straight into the PA. Effects rack = boss footpedals and EQ of some description.

    Ak

  • my teacher does that

  • The last tune is the Reconciliation Reel

  • wow the violinist is really good!!!

and he holds the middle of the bow in order to play fast?

  • I think so.

  • Quite a few old time and celtic fiddlers use a bow grip away from the frog. It does make some bowing techniques easier, but makes others more difficult. As with anything, it's a trade off.

Anyhow, that was some smokin' fiddle! Nicely done Mark!

  • Yes, he really has mastered that kind of fiddeling.

  • I love good music done simply.

Excellent vid and sound splicing as well!

  • wow I play the fiddle and I am not any where as good as they are

  • Love Finn macCool. They're so cool and got it all goin' on! We need more like 'em in Aussie pubs everywhere. Love Love Love them. They are hot too!!! Gotta love the humour- you have to read their CDs. xxxxx

  • I love it! I wonder how well he could play a Czardas!?!

  • If I were a bettin' man, I would say Mark Oats 'neurons' have NOT been chemically altered. In other words they are most definetly firein' on all cylinders. Good on Ya Mate!

  • Great

What is the name of the first reel?

  • couple of people have asked about that first part of the track.. I always thort it WAS Pinch, but obv. not.. I'll have to ring him.

  • mark oats shreds

  • The guitar player in the red is a spunk ;-)

  • not a fake... it's superb!!

  • It's all a fake! Look closely on the floor behind the gutar player, you can see the CD player.

  • the new Japanese manikin/robot technology has really improved too - the long-haired wax model even LOOKS like it's playing the violin!

  • That is an AMPLIFIER!!! Geez, this is real, not fake. And who are you to say. I am a musician and I can tell it was real. Where the HELL are you to insult these players?

  • perhaps we were having l'joke..

  • Joke or not, it isn't really polite. Sorry, I take it insulting. Got to. I am a irish/ scottish dancer going to medical school. I need to.

  • I guess I now have to put this into context. I recorded this gig. I am a personal friend - and colleague - of all in the band. I'm stunned anybody took "t4kne's" comment seriously. I thought he was comedic, actually. And don't worry mate, these boys give as good as they get.. !!

    Adrian K

  • @charliepace101

Here, here! I've seen this guy live and THAT IS REAL!!!!! He's amazing!

  • wow amps really look like cd players these days dont they!

  • Hey - this is real - I happen to know Mark - he's a friend of mnie and he REALLY plays like this.

  • awesome! and this guy really digs what he's doing:) ... heh ... i'm not even sure if i could play that part ... :\

  • I think thats in the Mercantile hotel, yeah? The lad on the fiddle always plays in the cock and bull.

  • Correct!

  • holy holy , so happy music!!! :D

  • Nice, I've seen some viciously fast session versions of the "Pinch Of Snuff" but never this quick. Anyone know the name of the reel he plays at the start before going into the Pinch? I think I caught a whiff of "Reconciliation" around 3 minutes in as well...

  • thx :D

  • where can i find sheet music for this song? or any songs of this kind?

  • google pinch of snuff and o to "the session" website... they have tons of tunes. I also really reccommend the portland fiddle collection, lots of good tunes in there.

  • oatsy's a mate of mine, he's pretty hardcore most of the time. are you an acquaintance of his musodata? perhaps a fellow fiddler?

  • read the comments and check the site!

  • Nice.

I'm just starting violin/fiddle, and this is both inspiring and discouraging at the same time.

Makes me wanna play, and makes me wish I'd started when I was young.

  • time, cash, parents. i've already learnt a couple instruments

  • this makes me wanna learn to play the violin! :)

  • what's stoppin ya?

  • Very nice!

  • Irish pride! ;) very cool :)

  • Thanks for sharing!

  • i agree with 19mike88

  • they're grat!!!

  • Good lord i think it's the devil himself!!( quote from cheech and chong)

  • : ]

  • man oh man. Those guys can certainly play! loved it
