Reminds me of sitting in my Austin 7 with a packed lunch in the car park of Cambridge College Of Arts & Technology, listening to the 'Pirates' in the early Winter of ' 67,frozen to death , with my little Pye transistor radio !.I have never tired of this instrumental gem , the Raymond Lafevre version is the best in my opinion.
@Sids60sSounds I have heard this song since '69 and never did know who recorded it. Every time the radio stations would play it and never say the name or anything else. I bought a Billy Vaughn album and it was on on the album. After I heard it I looked the information up on Google. I found your video and listen to the song a number of times. I bought the LP and the .45. From '69 to 2009 was a longtime to look for a song that one didn't even know the name of. I guess I owe Billy and you.
well i think Ronan was pushing the boundries of obscure soul before he did radio caroline. did he know he was on to something greater ........................Northern Soul. god bless Ronan
Can you try,the record washing? It's possible, that the groovs dusty. The tone quality improves significantly, sure just,if the record is not scratched. He worked for me many times.

I believe that the Major Minor Label (which was Irish) was owned by Ronan O Raliegh who owned radio Caroline. Hence the pushing some of the very odd music on this label. Still like it though!
my sister, maureen, won a beauty/ personality pageant and became miss heriot watt university in edinburgh in 1969. her catwalk appearance was to this track. the original is a vocal by michel polnareff. it is on many of his greatest hits cds.
i still remember the first time i head this haunting masterpiece,i was outside cleaning up the yard,i always took a radio out with me when i worked outside.this is a beautifull song and it opens the door to great great memories
Great video-thanks for posting. I never knew the name of this song until now. Back in the 1960's and 1970's before the FCC had some deregulation, top 40 stations were required to have news at the top of the hour. Radio stations would play instrumentals like this because they could cut them off when the network news came in which they couldn't do as smoothly with a regular song with lyrics.
I've had this tune in my head for the last 40 years since it used to be played on Radio Caroline!! I'm so glad I've found out what it was! Thanks for posting it.
Mooie muziek, mooi filmpje! Nostalgie, die zendschepen! Dit ook vaak gehoord op de lokale piraten in rotterdam en den haag in de jaren zeventig-tachtig!
the song of "michel polnareff"
