  • I like the speed, a lot of recordings are too slow for my liking and it sounds like wading through treacle, Messiah, in my opinion sounds better with a smaller ensemble and this chorus is no exception.

  • Excellent! Very professional, musically astute in every way.

  • this is the fastest I've ever heard this

    good though

  • Just a hair fast for my liking, but I like the idea of spazzy speed metal Handel. For the most part it works, there's just the one part where it falls apart around the 1:30 part. It just spazzes out a bit. But yeah, the performers are friggin top notch.

  • I like. alegre e vibrante.

  • Ridiculous tempo. It ruins the beauty of this chorus

  • Una excelente interpretación, en las "antípodas" de las versiones corrientes. El maestro Antony Walker transmite una gran musicalidad y positivismo a los intérpretes. Felicidades.

  • Every hahaha.. every hihihi... in Messiah is difficult to sing.

  • Super tempo!

  • Very sprite and difficult at this tempo, but quite good.

  • Ever since doing this for GCSE, it's like I've grown to love it! My parents are slowly getting sick of me singing it after every Music lesson! :) lol

  • Its quite a very hard task singing at this tempo, but i think its good to emulate

  • what key is this in?

  • @TheTomBales A major. although it occasionally modulates to E major.

  • @myself105 but A=415 or something, it'd sound differently, right?

  • I have sung this annually over a dozen times and each performance varied in tempo and dynamics.

    Keeps The Messiah fresh.

  • It's taken at a canter - too fast, IMO, but very good otherwise

  • Awesome!

  • Indeed to God be the Glory!

That tempo! One would expect the choir to strain - but no, they make it look like a walk in the park! I like THIS tempo - somehow it makes every not of this masterpiece come out clean, crisp, audible and in perfect blend. Awesome!

  • Handel believed in God, and if you like his music, you should believe in God too. This is a worship song not just a classical piece. Soli Deo Gloria

  • @newsjunkie360 but I think that people can also see it for it's musical beauty. that's what made Händel and Bach so great...they were able to create beauty both classically and religiously.

  • I almost prefer this tempo...it sounds so natural. amazing!

  • It sounds even better when the tempo is increased by a bit!!

  • That was brilliant. I think that was pretty much the limit for speed....but still good! Somehow, I wonder if he had rehearsed it at that tmepo.....hmmmm.

  • This tempo seems close to the original, but i dont think its the origianl key, but i like this key instead of that A major key. Its so clear, and the voices echo throughout the space as well as the instruments. I like it :)

  • I like the faster tempo...

  • this is way to fast I think. It's not the original tempo.

  • Slipknot should so do a cover of this! ;)

  • @charliehd123 lol what? srs XD

  • I swear all of these are either too fast or too slow! the mormon tabernacle choir did it too fast and these guys are in a hurry :L

  • @violinkid8

Well its supposed to be exciting, and its very repetitive so it makes sense to go abit 'presto'!

  • Singing is excellent but what are they in a hurry about? Too fast

  • I agree that this tempo is much faster than a conventional performance. Large choirs like the Atlanta Symphony could never perform this at this tempo, but I think director Antony Walker took a risk performing it at this tempo. His choir (Cantillation) is so goddam'd professional they make it sound completely effortless, and I think this is the most inspiring performance I have ever heard of this piece.

  • @MrDavidPun It's a shame you feel the need to swear in a comment you place at a song that is dedicated to the Glory of the Lord.

  • I hated this song when we started it in GCSe music, but now i've grown to like it :P

  • wow. nice Hemiola.

  • This is my favorite performance of this piece, because it is only at this speed that it feels "natural." The words flow as part of a sentence, sentences as part of a complete thought. The unity of the parts, both lyrically and musically, is reveal-ed in this performance. And the clarity, the clarity is amazing! O what bliss!!

  • Way too fast-why do so many choirs/orchestras want to play this like they are trying to catch a train?? This is NOT the speed at which Handel wrote and intended for it to be played..You can't understand the words. Too many parts and too much happening to be played at this speed. Choir should have stayed away from the coffee before singing.

  • @piano881000 The real perfect performance of this piece. We are speaking about GLORY, not SLEEP, so coffe is wellcome if this the music rendition

  • @piano881000 I agree, it's a tad bit too quick.

  • Beautiful performance. Well done so fast. Perfect clearness. Better than all the other recordings here on Youtube.

  • Very sharp and clean.

  • Thumbs up if you're doing this in GCSE music.

  • @kickflip9000 it's cause it's in baroque style, they always playit a bit faster :D

  • the tempo is abit to fast.

  • Beautiful choir

  • this is better than original, agree with milouribebotta. Great song

  • me gustan mucho estos videos de esta interpretacion porque lo hace mas rapido que en otras interpretaciones

  • beautiful

  • I do prefer this version, faster thant the "original" one.

  • mmmm

  • this is really fast...but i love it <3

  • me too! I love it! Thanks for the upload. This alto loves it!
