ethos lab elevator,look for his tutorial,he made one on his lets play,i think it was on episode 144,maybe 143,its the best one i have ever found,if you wanna make one to transport blocks,you can check 81dwd tutorial,use MUCH more resources,almost 2 times more,but it is cool too.hope this helps! :)

The elevator design I would recommend would be the one that CaptainSparklez showed off, it's basically a conveyor belt that uses invisible blocks (like fence gates, so that it holds you in the block, but doesn't count as a solid block so you can go in and out of it) May be difficult, but it's a good design.
