  • This final movement is nothing less than astonishing. J. C. Bach has clearly been underrated for far too long as a composer of merit. Not just as the mentor of the young Mozart, he fully deserves to be remembered in his own right. Bravo to Concerto Köln for an outstanding performance, and to animeviolalord for posting it here!

  • The "dragging" dynamics are probably due to the spare scoring of the orchestra for that period; hence, it may not have the full sound most listeners expect of a 'dramatic' g minor symphony, but it is entirely appropriate to the time period in which Bach, Haydn and Mozart lived. MAK know what they are doing here! They are among the best in interpreting works from this period.

  • @tjwhite1963: Yes, MAK is excellent at interpreting these works, but this recording is Concerto Köln. :)

  • @animeviolalord Oh, goodness--yes, you're right. My mistake. Thanks for the correction. But Concerto Köln (as you surely know) are also renowned for their period performance interpretations. I have several of their disks (which I highly prize), as well as several by the late lamented MAK.

  • there would be no Mozart G Minor symphonies without the influence of this work.

  • the music seems to be dragging but is awsome

  • Yeah, I'll admit that the dynamics aren't that great.
