  • Do you ever hear of any chevy guys putting a mustang 4.6 in a chevy? I dont think so. The 4.6's suck, they are only decent with a supercharger and a shit load of money!

  • I am a Ford guy but LS1 > 4.6 The 4.6 was the slowest motor for ever made and it takes a Supercharger to get them over 400whp. You can take an LS1 and put a cam, intake , headers and tune on it and be well over 400whp. LS1 motors came down from the sky. But I will say the new 5.0 motor came down from Heaven.

Ls1's r teh better den Ford becuase Ford sux, Ls1 was forged by Thor and blessed by God and came from the factory with a flux capacitor for every cylinder and has a compression ratio of over 9000:1 and can get up to 1000mpg while rev'd up to 20,000 rpm! Its Chevy and Chevy can do anything better becuase its a Chevy! And it only costs 50 cents!!!!!

  • @Brian500R Chevy engines are cheap, thats why. Thats why people go with Chevy engines, they are simply cheaper to buy and build. You can make a mitsubishi 4 banger blow the doors off a ls1. Yes you can make the ls1 alot faster due to the fact that its alot larger of an engine but compare them both the the mitsu will make more power to size. GM needs a larger engine to compete.

  • i had a 98 with a stock ls1 stock cam and a tune with kooks headers 3500 stall and a brake with a 125 shot ran a 10.98 @ 123, the numbers dont lie. LS1 motors a built pretty tough.

  • To all the 99-04 Mustang GT and V6's owners this swap rocks! If you can afford a Cobra then thats good and keep it that way. I wish the P71 had a chevy motor because the same 99-04 4.6 GT engine in the P71 sucks. But the new 2011 GT 5.0 motor is what I'd really want in the P71. Its a superior engine and its from Ford but as you know Corba engines and 2011 GT 5.0's CO$T a few grand more then a Chevy engine.

  • @oneshotkill324 40 yr old technology? you must be referring to the cast 350 blocks. The only similiarities between this ls1 and those is the displacement and interchangable rod bearings. Its an all aluminum small block that made up to 402hp stock, n/a. Few 5.4 make that much or more stock supercharged. Oh and lq4 is the vortec 6.0l found in trucks, not this motor. I dont get why you care so much about what brand it is, if its fast and fun, who the hell cares what brand it is!

  • now don't get me wrong people, the 2v, 3v, and 4v can be beastly... yet, let's be honest. When your engine blows, you have the following options.

    1.) Replace your old motor with the exact same one..(will be slower than an LS1) Build it back up just to beat an LS1... Or LT1 for the 2v peeps.

    2.)Engine swap with a 3v or 4v engine which ARE NOT CHEAP and still will be slower.

    3.) Or just buy a cheap pushrod chevy. Why pay more for the same thing? 2v valves are 2 valves.

  • @Brian500R Yeah you're right they're awful. Twin turbo Hellion Cobra's only put down around 800 wheel horsepower on 17 pounds of boost. But you're right they're so heavy and shitty, they can't make any power. Just like the 5.4L DOHC in the Ford GT. It can only handle 1000 whp from the factory without touching the bottom end of the car. That motor is such a piece of shit.

MANY LSx engines are swapped in everything, 350z's, 280z's, Miatas, RX7s, and LOTS of fords, but you never see any ford shitmotors in NOTHING, because Ford motors are garbage scrap metal boat anchors. The LSx engine will handle WAY more horspower than the ford shitmotor, and far more reliable.

  • @Topfueltrooper Correction, the Ford Motor is actually the more reliable of the two. bigger bore and stroke means thinner walls. Walls eventually are eaten away.... Ford built the 4.6 strictly for the econo sport car people. A long lasting sports car with really no problems. I'm not taking sides as I plan to put a 5.3l vortech in my mustang hopefully by mid-next year.

  • Whoever doesn't like this swap needs to be bitched slap. This swap makes the original 4.6 it comes with look like garbage. I have not seen any success with people who build the 4.6 they are small and cant handle to much boost. Thats why getting a bigger engine is better and chevy has that stock. No need for a stroker kit.

    Next time be more specific because last time I checked 4.6s are what size the 96-04 Cobras and 05 and up Mustang GTs are and those modified are some pretty stout engines. My 99 Cobra would walk it all day from a dig, from a roll, in reverse, I don't care. Point is that this motor doesn't belong in a Mustang. Oh and when you try to call someone out you better know your shit dumbass.

  • just for the record. All 4.6 2 valves were iron blocks. All 32 valve 4.6s were aluminum until the the 03/04 Cobras.

    As an owner of both a Turbochraged 99 Mustang GT and and a 99 LS1 T/A I can say "Cool". Was it as much work as I think?

  • that was an lq4 in this car. those are the iron 6.0L truck block, so you woudlnt see the really lightweight aluminum true LSx motor's weight loss. however, they still might be lighter than those heavy, giant ass 2V 4 cam modular motors lol.

  • Actually i was wrong it was 2001+ all the engines for the mustang Gt come out of the romeo plant which use aluminum blocks. But in 1999-2000 they came from the Windsor plant which uses cast iron.
