Very nice piece of music. The lyrics tell the stories of thousands, it could've been written about anyone's great/grandfather. It captures the sadness and frustration but also the sense of getting on with it, that so many Irishmen did after returning from war. It's nice the Dubs paid tribute to them, they should never be forgotten.
Does anyone know the lyrics? The lyrics they sing in this version. I want the part when he sing something about "struggling for your bread", or something like that. I've looked through google, but without any luck. Just found, what I suppose, the original lyrics.
mdsatan, sorry man, i wanted to give you thumbs up for U'r reply, but misclicked the thumbs down :/ as for the comment, i heartfully agree. this song is magic
I don't know much about the Dubliners, the Irish, folk music, or Ronnie. What I do know however, is that there's nothing which seperates this man from anybody like Robbie Williams, Elvis Presley, or Johnny Cash... all brilliant musicians. Except the others all had fame and money. But it doesn't stop these words being so true, and it doesn't stop the music being so brilliant.
What a one off guy Ronnie is... all songs sung played and sung by the man seem to fit his personality and nobody could ever have his sound or style.... play and sing for always Ronnie, none could or ever be him.
Poetry. Who wrote these beautiful words?

I had the biggest kick ever as I saw the Dubliners , in Dublin.
Oh my G..... what memories I have after all this years,
being a Beatles fan as I was at that time.
I have cds and dvds, but my memories from Dublin will live for ever.

It should replace that eye sore...whoever thought putting a giant needle in dublin city centre should be shot

This may well be Ronnies finest vocal...you can hear the anger and sadness in the voice.
The words are still so true and relevant today.
