I feel bad for saying this, as individually I love many of the musicians on stage, but for me, there are just too many strong musical personalities competing for real estate here..
this is unbeleivable didnt know it exsisted, i heard thier were some jams with john an jimi hendrix but never heard them could someone please post it!
these were the days. even if i was not there (born 1985). But there was no internet, no itunes, no iphone, no facebook. the things were real!!!! also the music. today everythin is syntetic....i was born 20 years to late...:)
Together or separate, these are the TOP players of the WORLD doing a TOP jam in TOP form... Herbie Hancock (piano) and Joe Zawinul (Synth) are missing, though. Hancock said that Jaco was the BEST in the WORLD... He ain't JIVIN' —Don Jibaro Barbanegra (jibaros.com)
It's Jaco, McLaughlin, Peter Erskine and the Cuban band Irakere.
The guy playing timbales at the very beginning is Enrique Pla, Irakere's drummer. The guy playing the tenor solo at the beginning is Carlos Averhoff. Next to him - in the blue top - is Stan Getz , which makes me think that at least some of the CBS all-stars were on stage too(?). Not all the Cuban guys are from Irakere. The dude playing congas behind McLaughlin was not from Irakere.
This is bloody insane. i have the Trio of Doom" cd that was released, somewhat recently & it doesn't have this jam. I can't' make who is on drums, but ofcourse anyone other than tony williams is a disappointment. possibly michael brecker on that sax solo? ha? ah? um? yeah.
I have always been a big fan of John & Jaco. Where do i pay for this excellent entertainment?
I have been watching Jaco videos with incredible enjoyment. you tube should have a button for true fans who want their artist to benefit including their families. I do not want some corporate rodent making money on this & the families get nothing. At least a Big Thanks Jaco for all the fleeting moments your music has put some tranquility into my life. RIP
Just trying to do my part in honoring Jaco's legacy, something that others have tried to tarnish. In John's case, he's still putting out great music, so buying his albums and seeing him live is a good way to support him as an artist.
Folks, I was there in 1st row Karl Marx theater that saturday night march 3rd 1979, as already mentioned: John Mc Laughlin, Jaco, Peter Erskine, Carlos Averhoff on tenor sax, Oscar Valdes, timbales and vocals, the late Jorge Varona on trumpet and diverse UFO like the percussionist of Willi Bobo, Armandito Buena suerte and others I cannot identify, it was 30 years ago!!, Tony Williams was not in the jam. As it is the last fragment, the starter was Paquito De Rivera, though is not in this part.
What a LOAD OF RUBBISH...that's NOT music!

@ricksuchow
Rick, Thanks to you too :)
I can say because of Jaco's Videos, I enjoy him & my weather report more.
I was a closet fan unknowing of his trials & tribulations.
Reading his bio enlighten me of my own condition & eccentricities.
I didn't have a clue who he was in the 70s/80s as I listen to his music.
So this works, I am a bigger fan & i have purchased his music.
