Man, there is really is nothing so foolish as an old man besotted with a young and pretty wife-- poor Claudius, he can't even see the freight train that's about to hit him.
@ShowYourWorking so it is. Do English people sill use the word "corn" for any kind of grain? Or was that an old usage? Funny how we all think we are speaking the same language...
@Jemmer1000 Spain wasn't an easy province for Rome to gain. It was a hotbed for European tribes to harass and sometimes slaughter legions for nearly two hundred years. Resistance continued up to Augustus' early years of his reign and some areas were still not under full control. However, later emperors came from Spain during Rome's most prosperous years.

It seems a newbie watcher of I, Claudius can't find out about the fate of Messalina on his own these days.

Claudius was certainly no better than any ither caesar. He murdered every bit as many as his peers.

When they say "In July," it reminds me of the Orson Welles Frozen Peas outtakes.

@3baxcb Yes, yes. Just a decadent joke, little marmoset. Hadrian himself came from Spain, as did, much later, Theodosius.

i REALLY, REALLY, dislike this actor's portrayal of Herrod. he sounds like a high school student feigning an italian accent.

Corn, or as the Romans called it "maize."
ScottfromTexas 2 years ago 2
@ScottfromTexas There was no corn in Rome. It originated in the Americas and was brought back to Europe after 1492.

Valeria Messalina....she was something.
Tacitus states she went so far as to compete with a prostitute to see who could have the most sexual partners in a night...
i2daza 2 years ago
and also... according to Satire VI(of Juvenal) Messalina worked in a brothel under the assumed name Lycisca, 'The Wolf-Girl' :D
