Read the book "the fall of reach", the first contact with the covenant is that a covenant battlecruiser attack a battlecruiser from the UNSC, but their just attack because the prophets say that.

That mean the elites was blinded by the lies of they own prophets.

In the game halo3 the elites are peacful and battle with the humans together :)

There's just something about the Halo series that captures my imagination. Sometimes I get old controllers or gillette razors and pretend their covenant or UNSC ships and have miniature battles in my room. I tell orders to my bridge officers and tell the crew to "brace for impact" or "re-entering normal space in T minus 17 hours." I just love the universe 343 and Bungie has created! It all seems so plausible and so real.. if only they made a game for space ship to ship combat...

The UNSC Ships don't have shields and the Titanium A can not hold out Plasma, like in Halo Legends Origins II 2 frigates get blown up by 2 plasma shots or Halo 2 after Cairo station when MC jumps out the Cruiser gets blown to pieces by a Covenant Superlaser, although UNSC Sometiems have the advantage of beating the shield down all together, the UNSC space forces are just simply too weak to take on a super alien race collective. <-- This info was for peeps who dont know why UNSCN gets blown up!!!

Also with that being said they were covered really well by frigates just they werent covered as if we were admiral Harper or Lord Hood and commanding those ships.

i think that the main advantage of each side is obviously 1. the widespread rechargeable shields for Covenant, which when you think about it is a ridiculous advantage you could potentially have no losses in a major battle.

and 2. For the humans, the fact that their bullets and rockets go WAAAY faster than most standard covenant weapons, so they have somewhat of an advantage on the ground at medium range.

I bet thats how we lost most if not all space battles in the covenant war was because the covenant hit a UNSC ship say at or near its fusion reactor or near its many ammunition bays. Let's face it, where in Ghosts of Onyx, MJOLNIR armor is so weak, but in the game, it can take multiple Hunter fuel rod cannon blasts before even failing. And to blow off an arm in the book isn't as easy in the game - programming would take more time, and the end result would be just short of disappointing.

Plus if you look on the Halo Wiki you'd think the marathon Class Cruisers would kick major butt knowing they have 2 mac guns and almost twice the amounts of armaments etc unlike the halcyon class.

they then got stuck with nothing new to stick in a game after halo 3 and decided to ignore canon to make a bit more money

spartans dont retire and there are 5(not posotive but its definatly between 5 and 10) spartan 2's in active duty, the rest are listed as MIA

the Mark iV armor appears in Halo wars. Canonically, it doesn't have shields, but ES added them anyway, because of gameplay issue. The Mark V was the original armor was used in Halo CE and the Mark V! was given to you at the very beginning of Halo 2.
