If ppl think that there are sides in government, there wrong. Its a show. Good Guy, Bad Guy. Everything is the same. There is no change from one president to the next. Same puppet masters, different puppets. Our government is corrupt.
I don't like when anyone compares a long ago historical figure to any current political party or ideology. Paine would be a mix of todays political parties and would not have cookie cutter views of just liberal or conservative, Democrat or Republican. Paine would probably seeing more in common with people like Ron Paul.
how much money is beck making, my internet hijacked my computer to this video fron me watching the daily show. beck must have some hugely powerfull intities behind him to take me to his video against my will. God help ua all.
When it shall be said in any country in the world, my poor are happy; neither ignorance nor distress is to be found among them; my jails are empty of prisoners, my streets of beggars; the aged are not in want, the taxes are not oppressive; the rational world is my friend, because I am the friend of its happiness: when these things can be said, then may that country boast its constitution and its government. Thomas Paine, Rights of Man.
Thomas Paine wouldn't have supported Wrong Paul. Thomas paine believed in universal education, taxing the rich ect. from a conservative perspective, he was a socialist.
@luxfero Can you provide proof of this? Thomas Paine in the MASS majority of his ideas was a classical liberal. He supported individual liberty, free markets and free trade which is something socialists abhor. You have to look at all his ideas to decide what he is, not a select few that support your ideas.
Read the chapter entitled "Ways and Means" in "Rights of Man". He's absolutely correct, Paine prescribed a system of welfare for the poor and elderly, universal education, a limit on how much a person should be able to make in a year (10k pounds, at the time), government housing and workhouses in London, paying for funerals.
He funds these things by creating a defense alliance with France and the US, and cutting off the aristocracy and/or handouts to the rich. 1/2way in the chapter
"common sense" barely addressed the grievances that most americans had - taxes aimed at the middle and lower classes, quartering, proclamation of 1763, etc. the pamphlet stroked the ego of the american public and referred mostly to american exceptionalism. paine had been in the country for less than a year and disliked the monarchy for differing reasons. he saw an opportunity in america's anger and stoked the fire. "age of reason" is far better of an examination of paine's ideas.
ROFL. Actually the president is black so he probably would have just been making a sandwich for a white land owning male while that same land owning male's sons accused the girl who correctly answered a math problem in school of being a witch and heresy.
What a fucking joke. Ron Paul is an asshole and Thomas Paine was practically a "socialist," according to glenn beck's logic, or rather, "a radical progressive."
@bpa619 I'm surprised you actually managed to write at least one complete sentence! I understand that this is an ad hominem attack, but I felt I owed you one out of your logical fallacy for arguing out of ignorance...or maybe just absurdity? I'm not sure what your actual point was, it doesn't seem to have anything to do with political science, and no amount of quotes will help. Please read some books. LEARN!
I'm surprised you'd like to get rid of the CIA, and every federally regulated agency, and then privatize firemen, schools/teachers, the library, national parks, the post office, and get rid of every single social service that is provided by the government and think that because you also want to get rid of the drug war that that makes you a "patriot." And then you'd like to return to the gold standard and repeal (nearly) every none state tax.
I love how Glenn is so into the founding fathers, especially Paine, even though he apparently knows shit about them. What would the founding fathers do!? shouts Beck. "The vanity and presumption of governing beyond the grave is the most ridiculous and insolent of all tyrannies." -Thomas Paine.
Thomas Paine would roll over in his grave if he knew he was being used as a propaganda tool for the intolerant religious morons behind the Glenn Beck Show
Nothing goes out over the air waves from the main (down) stream media without approval. So why in the world would they (Murdonk) let this air? Ron Paul 2012
OBAMA AND HIS CRONIES ARE OUT OF CONTROL.. Keep em coming Scumthrasher. Comment and Revolt against the DE-Generation of kids who just don't care about life.
If being American means living in fear not questioning what were told and going along with an administration thats has bankrupted this country for the last 8 yrs and another that will do it for at least another 4 then I'm ashamed to call myself one.
Paine was English, he lived in my town, for a while.

Republicans had no problem with Bush spying on private citizens. Beck defended it.
