You forgot the USS Indianapolis. That is sad because it was known as the greatest sinking of all navy history. It also carried the atomic bomb and my uncle was on it
My grandfather never spoke of Pearl. After he passed we found his discharge papers with the USS ALYWIN across them. The USS ALYWIN fought in the battle of Pearl Harbor we come to find out. We also found out he had joined the Navy unofficially at the age of 15 and worked in the yards until he was of age to join for real.
The YMS 133, a plywood minesweeper went down with all hands in a storm off Coos Bay Oregon with 33 men. My dad just had been transferred off... He never forgot all this buddies who died!
By the summer of '42, there were only 3 Carriers left and one was in port for repairs.
Also, before the war was over 12 Carriers (Fleet/Light/Escort), 3 Battleships, 7 Heavy Cruisers, 2 Light Cruisers, 80-90 Destroyers, 12 Destroyer Escorts, 52 Submarines, 3 Minelayers, 21 Minesweepers, 20 Patrol Craft/Sub Chasers, 11 Gunboats +1 Captured, 3 Seaplane Tenders, and numerous remaining types from PT Boats to Landing vessels and more.
Many events are remembered just for their place in History, or for just how they may have made the news of that day, but this song brings to mind that men died, and they had names, and families, and should be remembered as the individuals they were....
You got the dates and number of dead right, however some of the pics used for the Lanley were of CVL-27, commisioned in 1943. Look at the date listed for the heavy seas one, 1945. Understandable that there are few pics of Langley, but a CVL looks alot diferent then CV-1 did.
BTW. I am Active Duty Navy and recently had to do some reserch into the Langley. I beleave you also used some pics of Essex-class ships as well. Langley never had an island. That and CVL's islands were alot smaller.
My dad was aboard the Fanshaw Bay when the Gambier Bay was sunk. He witnessed her sinking during the Battle off Samar, as well as the destroyers and destroyer escorts and the St. Lo, which was sunk by Kamikaze right after the battle.
@cve70 In the summer of 2009 I was in Nashville, Tn. at the Guesthouse Hotel on Music Valley Dr. There were alot of WW2 Vets there. One had a Gambier Bay cap on. I told him my Dad was on the Gambier Bay. We sat and talked for several hours with other Gambier Vets . Three had known Dad and abuot some of the pranks they pulled, and Men who were lost from" Taffy 3". and who are gone now. I served in the Navy in Nam and these men are my shipmates. I treasure every second with them.
@capt777737 Stop crying you fucking fat fuck. Phil Realing is a trailer trash racist from Wyoming. Give him a call and ask him to stop fucking baby animals.
Those pictures of the 'Langley' are wrong. Only the first was of CV 1. The others are of her namesake replacement, which actually survived the war. Also 'California' was salvaged, and returned to service, so she wasn't actually lost.
mancsmoveseast, I see you are a Canadian. What percent of your population is " Native American " and what percent is of European ancestry ? You live in a very large glass house, my friend. And even if you are of " Native American " ancestry, why do you only diss the United States ?
And as a side not, the Indians were almost better at killing each other than we were. And they took slaves from the other tribes they conquered. So it sure as hell wasn't the land of the free when my ancestors got here.
@mancsmoveseast i would be interested to know where you are from so we can make claims about your culture's history as well. im sure that your not immune to the same scrutiny you direct at us. and as for your question... yes we do, and the fact that you quote the phrase 'land of the free' shows that obviously you know we do. or... your just naive.
USS California 98/1407
Sign me up for the navy!
I bet those 98 were stuck somewere or didn't fight for their life.
Best way to make a boat: very flat, not that wide medium bombing range OR Anti-air with aircraft on it.

I just sent this to the Commander od the USS Bainbridge along with the Kingston Trio version.
The Bainbridge rescued my Captain of the Maersk Alabama which the ships I took care of in port in Seattle when I worked port security
These guys are my brothers
And the Bainbridge knows it.
That's why I respect them as heroes.
and America does as well.

USS Indy delivered the bomb that saved over a million lives of US soldiers.
I feel no guilt.
capt777737 2 years ago
Also USS Indianapolis CA-45, sunk by Japanese Kaman torpedos July 31, 1945
My cousin went down with the USS Indy.
Anybody says that US Navy Sailors have it easy in their service, this proves they do not.
I am a Navy brat if you call it that, and damn proud of it. My family including my dad served in our wonderful US Navy

hahah, I was on the Reuben James in hawaii, I read on my ships history that 3 sunk
mjg19999 3 years ago
I can side with jumperwtc on this. Unless it was brought back up to fight again then sunk later, then she was lost at Pearl.
