This is certainly a very early version of Lite Brite. I think I got my first one in about 1968. My 2 sisters that are younger each got one a few years later. I think 2 or 3 of them are still in the attic. I remember the "clown" and the "basketball" player in my version, some of the others weren't in it though. I also got a refill kit of the patterns and a refill for the pegs. We had MANY pegs around here.
I remember back in 1985 I was a really little kid and went to a birthday party for this neighbor girl downstairs and I was the only boy there... I brought my Lite Brite because it was one of my favorite toys but I guess they were more interested in their girl toys... I remember them trampling over the papers with disregard :'(
Still got 2 of them in the attic, AND a refill pack. I always liked making the eagle. Many times I used regular paper cuz I didn't want to put holes in the special paper.
I only wish kids in this day an age played with things like lite brite. When i got one 10 years ago, i was sooooooo happy... then we lost the sticks and didn't get replacements.
i would always run out of the black paper and just put the pegs in while looking straight at the light. i bet if i were to look there'd be some of those pegs still around the house somewhere.
She would always come into the room with a mud mask on, wearing those sponge-pink hair rollers, and reading a True Romance Magazine, holding a can of TAB cola, and yell, "Damn it Gary, I'm tired of stepping on these damn Lite-Brite things!!!....LOL...

dude...toys from the 70's and 80's were the absolute BEST...i don't think there will EVER be an era with such amazing toys....EVER....crazy, but true...
Got my four year old daughter one. I showed her this commercial to show her what they used to look like. Now they're not as fun. They only come with a couple of patterns and they indicate what colours to put in. And they don't come with blank black paper. No room for creativity! Plus, they run on batteries! I wish I kept my old one for her! Hey, does anyone remember stepping on or vaccuming up those pieces?
Now you just give the kid a fucking cell phone and let him learn how to misspell words with his fucking thumbs. I wish I lived in the 70s or 80s or whenever this commercial is from.
@koala371 My favourite colour-without question was the white/red one they released only at Christmas. You could make the coolest candy cane pictures with them! At Christmas, mother used to walk me down the high street amid all the shoppers and carolers I would stand at the shop windows and stare at the display that the shopkeepers had made, wishing and hoping that Santa might bring me just some of the multi-coloured pegs! Alas, father lost his job and killed himself Christmas eve :(
Everybody remembers this

I did sound for a band, a few years back, who had 2 banks of lightbrites on either side of their speaker cabinets to make 2 huge pictures.
It was a very cool effect.

My mum used to freak because the plastic pins would get sucked up into the vacuum.
She had a bleeding ELECTROLUX, for God's sake. You could suck up a new born child in one of those and not break it.

My cousin would create "adult" images with his "Lite Brite" until his parents took it away. The next year, for Christmas, he got a car.
