For anyone nearing or past their 20's, the golden era of videogames was around 1995.

2D, 3D games, arcade and home games were all amazing. There was innnovation everywhere, and all the time. They had creativity in them.

These days you can only find creativity in small indie games.

Videogames have grown and expanded beyond what they used to be. Now some consider them as toys, or use them as such. Some have turned into what I call "Quick time based movies". It's more "interactive multimedia" now

My 9 year old would glance at this thing for approx 5 seconds and then go back to playing TF2 or Minecraft. My 3 year old would be interested, but eventually launch it down the stairs and then go back to playing Max Steel on the Dreamcast. So, I think there is a very small sindow for kids that this would be interesting. Now, if they had shoved a camera in the thing and let me steer it around the house and chase analog cats I would be on board.

@JakalairVG I see your point, but this doesn't seem to be particularly aimed at boys. Nintendogs and its various spinoffs and clones were consumed by a mostly female audience.

This game has not gone fully over to that audience(which I'm basing on the the design of the pet) but it may as well be.

I think girls will buy this game as they are usually the ones that buy and play virtual pet games.
