I'm a huge fan of Iverson, but this is how his career has been. He went nowhere with Melo, and the Pistons were much better off with Chauncey Billiups. Just look at the impact for BOTH teams when that trade happened. It was like when Shaq left for Miami. Miami won a title, and LA got worse.

He took such a beating like every game because he always had to carry the load for the Sixers and he was sometimes the only reason they won games then. He could've had a really long and successful career but by the time he got someone good on his team, he was past his prime physically.

For me it's a big factor that AI was so short amongst all those giants in the NBA and still managed to dominate. I would say AI, Magic, Oscar Robertson, Isaiah, and then Stockton for my top 5 PG's of all time. Magic had Divac and Worthy, Isaiah had Dumars and Laimbeer and Rodman, and Stockton had Malone. The biggest threat about Iverson was his fearlessness and his quickness. When he got a little older and lost that step the physical quickness was gone and left him with a mediocre shot, no point guard skills, and below average size. What killed him was not developing his other skills and simply relying on his quickness. He was the best when he had it.
