I'm assuming Barret looks the way he does due to color pallet limitations. Remember this was designed to run on NES hardware which was only capable of displaying a certain number of colors at a given time Of course, that doesn't make it any less fun to joke about. Since the battle system has such a minimalist design to its background I guess they had a little more freedom and could make Barret's skin color more accurate there at least.

Why play this, when you can play it on the playstation or buy it on PSN. The graphics are almost identical to that of the playstation version. The playstation might have slightly and I mean SLIGHTLY better graphics than the NES version.

@TheAwesomeCave This, coming from someone born in 1993 at the earliest. Outside of the FMV's it really wasn't that amazing graphically when compared to a lot of games at the same time. I'm not some old grizzled veteran of "the good old days" or some shit, and neither are you. The game is one of my favorites, I've played it countless hours since getting it for Christmas that year and still enjoy it to this day. But it's definitely not even close to the pinnacle of ps1 graphical capabilities.

@jesusmcsanders It's as simple as this. In 2006, the graphics on the ps3 were better than the graphics on the same console are today. In the same sense, final fantasy ix's graphics in 2000 are better on the same console than 7's were in 1997. It doesn't matter how powerful the console is, in 1997 that was as good as they could do for such a long and drawn out game.

This is one of Shenzen Nanjing's better games, but the original chinese version is MUCH harder, my friend Spaceninja did beat this in its original form.

I really want to see the Diablo 2 nes pirate translated one day. Too bad that game is not beatable, because Shenzen Nanjing fucked up the programming.

This is a good idea, but all they did was redo the speech and dialogue. This is a completely stupid ROM hack and they didn't even redo the music.

If you want to see a good ROM hack check out some of the Mega Man ROM hacks, the music, sprites and entire stages are redone with a new plot, it plays like a brand new Mega Man game with new weapons and entirely new systems.

It was gonna' be sprite based on the psx actually, but they figured they would get left behind in the dust, if they didn't upgrade and start using 3D polygons. Judging by the graphics, it was apparently their first time doing so. They have come a long way though, with the released of FF XIII and it's great presentation.

Well actually, you're right. Production of FF7 started in 1994 and 'was' initially intended for the SNES. Then when Nintendo announced the N64, SquareEnix (or Squaresoft as they were at the time) decided the best option would be to go with Nintendo's new system... hence the FF6 tech demo they showed running on the N64. They ended up switching to the Playstation though when Nintendo announced that the N64 would remain cartridge based, and Squaresoft knew the needed a media with bigger storage.

What a joke, this isn't a FFVII NES port. All it does is reuse ass-old assets from other NES games and snap them together into something that faintly resembles the FFVII. Since when was the train station a fucking castle, and why are you fighting mutants and demons when the NES FFs had plenty of human soldier type characters to battle.
